​@@johngriswold4303 It was replaced with that generic Undertow that is meant for kids rather than thrill seekers. All it is are teacups that spin on a coaster and it's incredibly slow. The Hurricane was removed because of multiple neck injuries and it's bobsled design that put a lot of people in the hospital. The Hurricane was a much better and faster ride than the undertow. There was nothing wrong with it, but it was way too fast for all the sharp turns it had. It was reported by the San Jose Mercury News that multiple riders ended up in the hospital due to neck and arm injuries from the ride. THAT'S why it was replaced with the incredibly lame undertow. Santa Cruz isn't known for thrill seeking coasters other than the Giant Dipper, but the Hurricane definitely gave the Boardwalk a boost with that extremely fast coaster. The undertow won't impress you if you like fast coasters, in fact it'll disappoint you more than anything. It's just spinning teacups on a roller coaster and that's why the younger ones like it. It also has a very short ride time.

Yeah the hurricane was the best coaster they had on the board walk it’s sad they had to remove it. But like you said there should be more space, but at least they still have the great dipper and the undertow.👍🏽

@@perc7949 Hurricane is good. But the last seat on the Dipper car is a all time classic ride, with great airtime and nice head chopper effect. When you ride through and under the support beams it looks like you might loose your noggin.

I.m.not.so.sure.if.the.land.on.Santa.Cruz.Beach.Boardwalk.could.fit.4.rollercoasters..but.one.thing.would.ve.been.cool.and.that.s.if.The.Giant.Dipper.could.ve.been.a.twin.set.so.they.could.race.em.like.the.Rebel.Yell.rollercoaster.in.Kings.Dominion.theme.park.in.Virginia..shown.in.a.70s.movie.called.Rollercoaster.a.movie.about.a.guy.who.tries.to.bomb.rollercoasters

They.should.replace.the.Pirate.Ship.ride.in.exchange.for.an.Evolution.ride....The.Evolution.is.mainly.a.carnival.ride.but.I.think.SCBB.should.try.for.Evolution.ride....you.sit.in.1.of.those.compartments..face.outward..then.it.twirls.you.in.the.air.in.repeated.circles...goes.upside..down..ride.lasts.a.few.minutes...duh.but.you.may.get.a.little.scare.from.it

They have a newish coaster now the undertow it’s super fun

It was demolished almost a decade ago now. It's been replaced by a cyan ride called UnderToe.

No so much airtime. It had more crazy lateral motions with tight turns. But now it is gone and replaced with Undertow. Never rode Undertwo, has I was there the Summer it should have opened. But they tested it all summer long and it opened the next summer. If you go there and want airtime. Giant Dipper is the way to go. Back seat is roughest but gives best airtime. While front has best view.

Jetstar was 19 years old. Probably needed to be replaced due to stress overtime. Never rode Jetstar or the new one Undertow. But this one surprised me with lateral force. Not super intense but more so then it look from the ground. The first will get you.

No this replaced Jetstar in 1992. Jetstar was 19 years old. In 2013 this was replaced with Undertow.

@@barakbalestrery4138 Oh ok thanks. Yeah I went back to Santa Cruz in 2015 with my grown kids. (We all were born & raised in San Francisco) And I saw the undertow. Didn’t ride it, but did ride the Big Dipper a few times, and my daughter loved the beginning of the ride thru the dark tunnel. Always loved the SC Boardwalk, the only seaside amusement park in the Bay Area after Playland at the Beach closed in 1972

@@bartonpercival2147Interesting fact one of the two Wurlitzer Band Organs on the Looff carved carousel is from Playland. They got it restored in 2009. They added another Wurlitzer in 2011. The original which still plays there. Is a Ruth & Sohn from 1911. Later the Giant Dipper designed by Prior &Church. Was built by the son Aurther Looff.

@@barakbalestrery4138 yes I have many pictures from Playland from the 1940’s all the way to its demolition in 1972, and also pic’s of the Wurlitzer 165 #3124 with a different paint job on the front of the facade when it operated in the Playland Carousel. I also have the pic when it was first shippped to San Francisco from the Wurlitzer factory in 1915 with the original paint scheme. Fun fact: The 1905 Looff Carousel was the last Carousel that Charles I. D. Looff actually carved with Charles Carmel. Lots of history between Playland at the Beach & the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Yeah but steel stresses over time. Might have needed to replace most the track. It ran for about 20 years. The Coaster before it ran for 19. I seen other parks take iconic steel coasters out at about the same time. Wood Coaster it is easier and cost much less to replace track parts. Has you can form.new part a lot easier. But this ride was really fun. More intense the it looked.and the first ride caught me off guard.
