Hurricane Ian Aftermath | The Surge | Key West, Florida 

I follow a few channels on YT pretty closely. The content varies widely. The common denominator is likable people worth caring about. I am so thankful to you for sharing your situation with us, and I’m very thankful you are both well and safe.

So thankful that you guys are ok! Thank you for the inside look at the storm, it was super interesting and informative. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the hurricane as they begin the clean up and repair process! Take care and stay safe!

Everybody I know has a relative or close friend living in Florida. This is news more than entertainment and I personally appreciate the “state of the keys” after Ian message. My mother was in the direct path at Bradenton. Miraculously for her it went south and east by about 80 miles. She is bone dry, full power snd no damage at all. Her husband did have a medical emergency at the shelter and had to be hospitalized. No word on his outcome. At 93 anything could be wrong but hopeful. Anyhow glad you all had minimal issues and as always. Much appreciated. Thank you.

We took the center of the eye directly over my house in Cape Coral. I've been through every hurricane for 40 years and nothing compares to this storm. 8 hours of hurricane force winds with gusts over 160mph for a few hours. My new Gulf access home did not flood but others were not so lucky. We lost power for 11 days but many lost everything so I am not complaining. Pine Island, Ft. Myers Beach, Sanibel and the barrier islands were all decimated. We are heading to Key West in a few weeks to have a beer and relax for a few days. We definitely need a break!

Glad you guys are good. WAY better to over prepare than underprepare. My heart goes out to all of the people who have lost their homes and also the undercarriage of your truck

Glad that you fared pretty well. Ian has been blowing pretty good here(St Petersburg) all day. It's amazing to see how it sucked the water out of Tampa Bay. Just hope for the people along the bays that the surge as Ian passes isn't to bad. We ate at the hog fish last year when we were in key west. Sorry to see the damage to such a beautiful place

Paradise comes at a cost from time to time, glad ya all were spared of any real damage. Prayers go out to your friends and neighbors dealing with all the water damage.

My gf and her husband just moved to port Charlotte last year so this was their first and it went right over them. They put in shutters which saved all of their windows, an enormous tree going down on the neighbors just missed their house. She said the eeriest part was when the eye went over them. Glad you all had minimal issues.

Hey Aaron. We are about 3 blocks from the Square Grouper on Cudjoe Key, south side of US 1. We had 11.5" of water downstairs. Just like you, prepare well and all will be well.

First of all, prayers out to those who've lost property, livlihoods, and their lives. As a resident of Wilmington NC for the past 10 years or more, I have to admit, I do not understand how people continue to be "caught off-guard" during these hurricanes. You guys obviously were prepared, but how others continually choose not be, I will never understand. I really enjoy your videos, I'm sorry you had to make one under these circumstances, but I'm glad you're ok.

I just hope that all of the single ladies of Florida and the single men of Florida find each other, because in times like these, no one should be alone. Two heads are better than one, and women gives men strength as men give women strength, and together, they both move with purpose, focus and can move mountains in times like these. I sent a communication to all of my military brothers and sisters living down there to just do what we're trained to do in crucial and catastrophic times. They're on it!

Thanks for the update. I was down near you last spring caught lots of fish! Amazing place. Very glad yall were not hit too hard. My brother is in Port Charlotte and i have not heard from him since this morning. I'm sure their ok but they got hit hard. The house has lots of damage and don't know much more. They preped well just like you and that is all you can do.. thanks again.

Thanks for the update. We also lucked out in south Alabama as the beast turned N Easterly as predicted. Amazing tracking these days. In 1989 St Croix Hugo it was friends in Texas that called us and told us we were in the path of a huge storm.

The crazy part is I happened to see Madeline's sign on the fence last week at the ramp and used that boat ramp again JUST YESTERDAY! I had no idea the sign was attached to your fence. Small world. Sometimes it's hard to understand the selective hand of GOD'S mercy. Lending your hand to the neighbor hit hard by the storm brings wonderful energy from above. Prayers to you both and for a quick recovery for your neighbors.

Wow, gripping footage of the rising tide in your yard and home, and then the gladness of the abatement. Sitting here a little north of Orlando watching its approach (for as long as I can).

I drive to key west every year from PA and stay at Boyds campground and eat at hogfish bar religiously.. I'm so happy to see everything made it okay! I'm glad everyone is safe!

I’m planning to have my 12 ur old son and I certified scuba by spring of next year just so he and I can share memories together. There’s something about making it through a hurricane. The feeling you get the next day. You’re still alive and all the people you care about are still alive. And sure some bad stuff happens. But it brings people together. That’s the cool part. Wish you guys well!

Live in Venice FL, the eyewall sat over my home for nearly 5 hours, with 125 mph winds, and dumping 19.5" of rain. We went to Stuart FL to ride it out 1.5 days before landfall. Numerous neighbors told me, "no it won't happen here and we're going to stay", but it did hit! My wife and I are alive, their status unknown. It has been heart breaking watching this on TV. If you have visited SW FL you've already shed a tear. Going back on Sat to access, with no idea what awaits. Say a prayer for SW FL.

Thanks for update you guys dodge hell of a bullit . Pray for people Fort Myers and Sanibel.. Orlando flooded A1A near Palm Bay bout to wash out again. Michael closed it 5 yrs ago. We were spared Gville. But still had to stay 36hrs due to hospital. Now work begins

The worst surge I ever experienced was hurricane Wilma in 2005. It swung about 75 miles west of key west and was a cat 4 at the time. I lived on Northside drive. About 85% of the cars on the island were totaled from the water. We had about chest deep water which ironically at the time my buddy and I walked through that to bob mongelli's house (man in video) to see them as his kids are our age. Chest deep water! Absolutely worst hurricane I ever experienced, and it wasn't even the wind, the winds were never bad, but the surge was next level!!! Glad y'all are safe!

Thanks for sharing. It is important for people to see the power of these storms for both preparation and evacuation. I live in a little town outside of New Orleans called Luling. We were ground zero for IDA and live in a slab home just above sea level-very different from a hurricane rated -elevated home. We were without power for 22 days and many folks like my neighbor have still not been able to move back into their homes for over a year later. No appreciable services (GAS, Food, Water for a couple of months). I recall the horror of seeing the neighborhood that looked like a war zone upon my return. Our contractor did not complete the needed repairs until January 22 and we had to spend another 3 weeks out of the house during the worst of the sheetrock work. Not from flooding just wind and rain. The moral of the story is you need to understand the risks and limitations of staying or leaving. You are in a good place with type of home you have and experience in dealing with storms. But people need to fully appreciate their individual circumstance, the power of these storms and prepare or get out accordingly. Again in the wake of this storm as in Katrina we will see many deaths and heartache that could have been avoided if folks would only think through the decision to stay or go. Regards Steve

By 3:00 we were getting rocked here in Venice. We were north of the storm so we didn’t getting the storm surge but a lot of people were flooded from all of the rain. I got power, water and internet turned on the past couple of days. Considering how much damage we had here, it’s pretty unbelievable how fast they are getting us up and running again.

So glad you guys are ok and have little damage. We also did just fine in PSL. The wind kept my grandson up most of the night but that's all.
