Hurricane Milton is heading right for us! Come and see what it was like to live right in the path of a major hurricane and see how our new build Florida home coped with the intense winds. Follow along as I prep the house for Milton.
This week started off normal like any other week living in the sunshine state however after the weekend it was apparent that we were in for a big test.
We start the week by going to SeaWorld Howl-O-Scream and we thoroughly enjoyed it, we thought the scare actors were very interactive and the houses were intense giving us plenty of screams and laughs.
As we got to Monday it became apparent that we were in the direct path of Hurricane Milton and I needed to get the house prepped for the worst. I spend 2 days doing some food shopping and making sure everything from outside was inside and safe from the winds.
Once we got to Wednesday, the day of Milton's arrival, we stayed home and inside hoping for the best. The nighttime was rough, I have never heard winds or weather like that in my life and at one point I was very frightened that we might loose our roof. The next morning I was amazed to wake up and see that we had very little damage, the house held up amazingly well and we are very happy.
We did loose power very early in the evening and as of this vlog finishing we still did not have any power or mobile phone signal.
At the end of the week we try and occupy ourselves by having a quick trip to Disney's Hollywood Studios as the weather has cooled since the storm.
Im sorry that I'm miserable at the end of the video but the effects of having no power and no way of contacting anyone was starting to get to me. I will be more upbeat next week I promise.

Thank you for even getting this vlog out Katie. We are so glad to see you have come out of it all physically unscathed. It was such a relief to get word that you and Zara were ok. We know that you are one of the most capable and positive people ever, but I think it’s perfectly understandable that you are feeling a bit low after such a stressful week. Katie, I'm so glad you and Zara are OK! ❤ Thank you for sharing your experiences of living through Hurricane Milton; no apologies are necessary after such a stressful week. I expect your family must have been starting to panic when they couldn't contact you. It was lovely of your neighbor to check on you after seeing Jason's message. I have a Costco card in the UK and would be interested to see how it compares in the US when you get a chance. Has the power come back on at home? Take care xx

To be without power is a horrible feeling. So many things only work with it. I am glad you survived Milton without damage to the house. Your grill doesn't have a side burner? For the day after the hurricane you could use the grill for before frozen steaks 😉 Hopefully you don't have to go through this again ❤

Just like Texas, people in Florida should feel ashamed to be emptying the coffers of FEMA while people smart enough not to live in a disaster area are lucky to get funds.

I’m not sure if that was aimed as a nasty comment but I can assure you if we had sustained any damage we would not be claiming from the government for help, we would be funding it ourselves like we have all of our lives. Never once have we claimed a penny from the UK government either. That’s for people in need. And yes it’s not smart to move to a disaster area that’s why I would never buy a home on the coast of Florida, I would just be too frightened for my family and home. Let’s hope for Milton was a once in our lifetime storm 🤞🏼❤️

If a disaster (natural or otherwise) was to occur where you live, I presume you would not feel 'ashamed' or not smart enough because you had chosen to live there. The government has a duty to its people to step in and assist those who are affected.
