Hurricane Proof your Roof with Somay "Roof Mastic" Sealer and Protector

I had a 17 year old shingle roof which was in a bad shape. I spent about $3000 to get Somay roof mastic applied on my entire roof in a two story house about 5 years back. I have attic insulation and a spinner on the roof and soffit and so far I have not experienced any kind of problem or leak. We have a hurricane warming today so this will be a good test of the strength of this roof mastic. It is time for a renewed coat of mastic -- which would require only one coat and not much roof preparation would cost much less. Although my white roof keeps my house cooler, it does grow dirty and requires occassional wash with clorox and water. Overall, I am pretty pleased with it.

Best money I ever spent coating my shingle roof with Somay Roof Mastic. It has been 4 years and the roof is perfect and no more leaks! When applied properly per the instructions it creates a roofing system that can be maintained indefinitely by the homeowner. It is a lot of work to apply and I needed a helper initially but now I can maintain it by myself by simply rolling on a fresh coat. It made it through Hurricane Irma in Miami and I saw a lot of very damaged shingle roofs in my area. You are supposed to recoat it in 7 years but I'm just rolling on a fresh (thin) coat at the 4 year mark now and it is just beautiful so I will just do that again in another 4 years to keep it looking fresh and perfectly maintained. It is total BS that the wood underneath will get damaged by "sealing" the shingles. As a perfect example flat roofs are always sealed and the wood does not go bad or dry rot that is just absurd. I have been in my attic and the wood is perfect and it is much cooler painted white. This is not the crap that you get at the Big Box stores this is a proven roofing system with a long and valid track record of homes and businesses surviving brutal storm conditions in the Caribbean as well as all over Florida. It's not cheap but nothing that's fantastic is. Don't listen to all the naysayers. I guarantee they have never seen this product in person or if they have they sure don't want you to know about it. This product is the real deal and if your gut is telling you this is the exact product you've been looking for that's because it is. I also applied SOMAY Rubber Waterproofing Coating on my flat roof 4 years ago and I just rolled it with 2 more fresh coats and that too is now an indefinite solution where I can maintain it myself. And it looks so nice and completely sealed. That area still ponds and used to be a source of costly repairs now it is totally under my control. If I can steer just one homeowner away from the clowns who are knocking this incredible product it would be well worth the time spent writing this and karma wise I know that guy will show up with at least a 6 pack to thank me for saving his roof! Okay, so it may not be that same guy but still a future stream of 6 packs are heading my way just for setting the record straight : )

You think that the shingles are not going to blow off in a hurricane you are living in a dream world.

How is this less expensive? 10 coats give or take from 4 or 5 different products applied at different times. The labor is twice as much at least. Guarantee the so called painters aren't getting 75 to 110 a sq for labor

They put membranes down now and seal the wood then put metal roof or shingles of it Roll roofing seals it too.

Coating all fail sooner than later , and the value of the home just got destroyed . Commercial flat room maybe even then the standards are generally specifying membrane with welded poly seems . Stick to marketing Rv roofs or vintage trailer parks in Az

GOOD LUCK doing this on your own, even if you were to spray it. What are the chances it won't be windy, rainy, too hot in the weeks it would take on a large home. Plus, getting it done perfectly right, plus the costs. If you hire professionals, cost of labor, materials...might as well get a new roof.

How does this work for standing seam metal roof panels? What is the cohesiveness value of the coating and how does it affect the cleaning affect of snow off a metal roof?

Breathable shingles blah blah blah. Coat the shingles, seal the in between gaps but don't seal the bottom keep it detach to top or bottom shingles. Just add tar to keep it shut.

any types of "sealants" you add to a shingle/tile roof that "locks up and protects" the shingle/tile, is the worst thing you can do. The roof itself needs to breath which means you must have proper ventilation (either attic insulation, or proper soffit/exhaust vents), if the roof does not have such mentioned, then whatever product you apply on the roof that supposedly seals it to protect it will lock in all the heat and the wood will be dry-rotted. Very simple math: life expectancy of a roof in south florida without proper ventilation: 15-20 years, life expectancy of coating a roof without proper ventilation: less than 3 (if by any miracle it holds beyond 5 years then get ready to spend thousands of $ replacing all the roof's wood, maybe including some trusses). Yes, once you seal your roof you'll be leak free... for a little while. In other words: please educate homeowners instead of trying to make them spend $ on something that will deteriorate their roof faster just so that you can make a quick buck.

ive been trying to educate myself as much as i can so i can re shingle my own roof, the roofers in my area are like most of the so called workforce, no independent, for any type work, wants to do work for a reasonable wage anymore, years ago people would work for fair prices and usually do good work, now they all want the same price as huge companys with million dollar overhead. but watching these videos is amazing, if you have time and care , pay attention to the do's and dont's on the roofing videos, as you go from one to the other that person is doing exactly what the other video said never do, and every one says they are the best, same with these sealers. im absorbing what i can and trying to figure out what is best for what i have to do, i think the new materials have a use, i know i have problem areas that i will be able to use the flexible flashing on before i do the flashing, same with the product or a similar one shown here, as far as sealing my entire roof, im going to look a little farther into that. maybe on my upper story with is small and simple gable with only one turbo vent. its steep and scary to get on so it may be a candidate for sealing.
