Once again great video Jeff, a lot of really good information on shutters and how to attach them to the wall (REALLY important information), but what about..... Shutters are the obvious and usually the best choice for people who need to protect their existing windows, but what about for people building new or who are looking to replace their windows? In those instances how does installing aftermarket shutters compare with installing impact resistant windows up front? What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of different options? No surprise that I have very definite opinions on this subject
Greg, as always, thank you for your valuable information. There are some instances where it's more economical to replace your window without using cardinal impact rated glass. In those cases, the homeowner can choose to have a windstorm approved window, but without impact rated glass. In that case, they will need to add debris protection in order to comply with the code. It actually figures out to be less costly than buying an impact rated window. If the budget allows, it is best to buy a window that already has impact ratings so you do not need to buy shutters. This is just one of two options available for coastal climate windows. I plan to make a video soon to demonstrate how an impact rated window does not need any debris protection. Could you make a video explaining about the 5 category hurricane resistant windows ? Most manufacturers don't show the term Cat 5 anywhere in papers and some sellers just put the label to sell. Which brand is 5 Cat or how it works ? Thank you for the good content.
