A short summer outing (recorded on 29.08.19) targeting black bream at Hurst Spit / Milford Shingle Bank, Hampshire (UK). Although the the filming didn't go to plan and the conditions were atypical, a few fish turned up to make this an interesting session.

In this video, I mainly deal with my approach to fishing for black bream, with methods and rigs designed to catch them, covered in some detail. I describe how to make a three hook, short snood, clipped-down rig, specifically made for targeting bream.

I used to fish the white house at night. Always caught and king rag was always the killer bait. Liked Hurst castle for big hard hitting bass too.

Another cracking video from a lovely venue that I would love to fish from but unless I get to visit that area on holiday (certainly not this year!) I suspect that it's a little too far for me to travel to for a day's fishing! The rig tying session was very helpful and, unlike some by other RU-vidrs, was not rushed and was very clear. Many thanks for that. Yes - was surprised that no-one was at the mark I fished yesterday (13.05.20), given that I had previously produced a video at the very same spot, giving its location! Maybe I can lay claim to it now! Many thanks for watching and commenting.

RodsAngleUK I’m surprised too. I am deliberately waiting for a few days to allow the perceived “mad rush” to die down before trying to find a venue to fish. Were you successful? And can we look forward to a video? Tight lines.

It was quiet to begin with, as I arrived an hour before low tide. More anglers, as well as fish, arrived half way up the flood. Strange session, but caught plenty and will be seen in video after next! Also been fishing a mark I hadn't fished before within Pevensey Bay - also successful, I'm pleased to say - usual suspects. Hope you do well and everyone else coming out of lockdown.

Wonderfully informative as always. Outdone in reputation by Chesil but equally frustrating at times, but so many different types of fishing especially if you walk to the end. You also might be surprised by the size of bass behind you on the the other side. Standing high up on the bank with polarized sunglasses you can sometimes see them fanning the bottom with their tails to expose food and no I had no rod or wrong rod every time.... all the best and we are allowed out again, so happy days...

Agree Martin and thanks for adding some of your experiences here. This was my only session on the spit in 2019, and not that representative of what it can be like. I do hope to cover other parts of it in the future. I also fish Chesil quite a bit and am looking forward to getting back there!

Ty Rod , spent so many summers on that part of the beach as a kid , I'll be down in sept staying in lymington, so I will be bringing my gear now lol , great vlog as always..... jules

Another great video. I use to fish Milford shingle Bank in the late 60's. The species weren't as diverse then. Always fished it on neaps and the ebb tide. Keep up the good work.

One fish was caught there in the winter was cod. Not loads but of good quality. I don't think many are caught now. A friends dad had 3 specimens in a week 14.7- 16.8- 20.12

It can be difficult, like a number of other Solent venues, but usually worth it. Weed problem much less on the ebb here.

Hoping to put that out next Thursday in place (hint - different spelling though!) of scheduled video, which will be brought forward, if you know what happens before then!

@@rodsangleuk6283 Hi Rod. I am an ex Essex boy, (70), moved up to the Highlands of Scotland 33 years ago. Had wonderful sea fishing in the Essex estuaries and creeks for bass and many other species. Fished down in Kent and other bits of the South coast as well. I'm afraid, apart from the long distances I have to travel to get to the sea, the fishing is not wonderful up here. Your delivery is unique, your approach relaxed and methodical. But most of all you are great educator. Watching one of your vids is almost as good as a days fishing. Please keep making them, I'll never get bored, even when you are honest enough to record a blank.

I tend not to use power gum; but its a popular choice. I think some of my videos with rig making incorporated have close ups.

Rod have you or anyone you know ever used cooked shrimp for catching flatties? I don’t do much fishing nowadays but it was the killer bait for them in the Thames estuary. I’m going back a few years mind but I just thought I’d ask if you’ve ever tried them. Thinking about it now I’ve also had whiting & pouting too on Shrimp & a bloke I knew caught a couple of codling.

I sometimes use shrimp as a tipping bait Les, but not on its own - must try that.

@@rodsangleuk6283 Yeah why not Rob. Can’t hurt giving it a try. It was always cooked shrimp though mind, it probably gives off more scent. I’ll just add they’re a bit flimsy on the hook so maybe a bit wrap around is needed.

when u tie the uni-knot, dont bother twisting the line up, just hold the two together side by side to make the loop to whip up inside inside, twisting up serves no purpose at all, look at 10.35 mins, when u cinch the knot down it just totally untwists, under tension, below the knot u have just created, leaving a slight twist above the knot ( just watch slowly, as u pull the snood tight, u will see what i mean)

if you look on here, there's a film by "fishthatwontquit" uni-knot , that shows a UN-twisted knot being pulled up tight, up close. by the way thanks for all your films, there great, iv watched them all !!

@@rodsangleuk6283 if u look in any old angling books, its known as GRINNER knot, late 80s early 90s lots of "known" angling writers, said it was THE only knot u needed for braid,mono,hooks ,swivels,shock leaders,even spade end hooks & stop knots, so it seems thats about the time it seems to have been re-named UNI, as its the only one u need ??

It must be a double-uni then that I use to tie shock leaders to braid main line; unless that's got another name. I'll show that up close in a future video and perhaps you could let me know what the knot is called. I just do what works for me! Thanks again for your contributions Andrew.
