What's amazing is how this defined the style of reality TV, many years before it came out. Woody Allen takes all the polish off and throws you into a very raw and emotional situation. It doesn't feel scripted at all.
I agree but for me I go to the movies or watch tv not to be presented with real life but a version; I want it better than real life and they have everything to hand to make it so.
I have to add that these and related scenes come across as actors desperate to make them seem natural so in that sense they are another version of phoney.
This scene has such great flow.. It flows like a realistic, natural, normal conversation between family friends. The handheld camera makes you feel involved. So well-done.
I love how this scene unravels, from polite acceptance to everyone each in their own worlds muttering nonsense and pacing about...from "none of our business" to "how can you do this (to ME)?!" in like 1 minute. Love how Woody says "you'll be back together in a year" (he's right lol).. there's this note of everyone looking to each other to maintain their faith in marriage and family...THIS shatters it...and they dont know how to handle it...
i love how Mia at first says ‘it’s none of our business’ when Woody asks why and then a minute later she’s interrogating them and saying ‘why isn’t it our business?’ lol
Sydney Pollack is a very good actor. It's interesting to me how many directors are very fine actors: John Huston, Orson Welles, Woody Allen....even Ben Affleck.
The fact Mia Farrow filmed this after discovering the photos of Soon Yi that Allen took adds a whole new level to her performance. One of his angriest films.
@@basehead617 So sad. It was the beginning of the end. So during the whole movie he was cheating on her, and she didn´t know. So sad. I hate cheaters. Be a man, and divorce, but don´t cheat.
Somehow, the scene from “ Hannah and her sisters” where WA and MF ask their friends for a sperm donation seems much much light and more humorous than it used to. :)
DO THE RIGHT THING AND HAVE A MIA WE ARE SORRY !! THE OSCARS HAVE BEEN ALFUL TO HER !! ROSEMARY'S BABY !! ALICE !! JUST TO NAME A FEW BUT THIS MOVIE AND PERFORMANCE BELONGS TO MIA !! SHE OWNS EVERY SCENE SHE IS IN !! THIS IS WHAT CINEMA DEMANDS !! AND SHE DELIVERED !!"
@@LauRa-re9un How smart reminder: a lot of people still believe they were married. And Woody Allen didn't cheat Mia Farrow with Soon-Yi Previn: they were not married and their love relationship has ended a long time ago, after Satchel - now Ronan - was born. An other useful reminder: during his all time relationship with Mia Farrow, Woody Allen never slept one time at his apartment.
@@happynotegames Where are your sources? Woody Allen in an interview said that he would never had left Mia if she didn´t find out about Soon Yi. Let me see if I can find it for you. I´ll edit if I do.
The weather was horrible throughout shoot of Husbands and Wives and yet Woody is giving his characters lines over and over about 'what great weather it is' lol
I can't watch this without thinking of the BEN STILLER SHOW's parody of this movie, including the scene above, and also other scenes from the movie .... only each of the main characters were all mash-ups of: 1) each of the original movie's actors/characters; and 2) one of the Universal Studios Monsters: S. Pollack-Frankenstein, J. Davis-Bride of Frankenstein, W. Allen-The Mummy, etc. Were Ben & Co. high on some drug when they thought of this, and made this? I'm not doing it justice, so watch it for yourself: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uIZmiempVH4.html
With today’s terminology, they would simply nail, said they were “ taking a break” or “ seeing other people for a while”perhaps. Still, I loved this opening scene…. Reminds me of the scene of Hannah and her sisters where Hannah asks the neighbor to be the sperm donor so she can get pregnant….
Mia must love that these clips on the Internet with Woody groping on her for thousands of people to see. Some of these scenes do capture the confusion and hypocrisy of people. Judy Davis' character is quite a B. The scenes remind one of how genuinely awful it is to date then and now. LOL Liam Neeson's character is a total SIMP. ha ha probably the LAST time he every played that role in his career...WISELY.
