In 1990 I fell some 9 feet Douglas Fir near Tiller, Oregon, using a Sachs Dolmar with a 60” bar. That was the only time we ever worked in pairs, because you really want one person just hammering the wedges. You really don’t want to give trees that size even the slightest chance to set back on you.

Looks like a good time! I got to run one of those at HFH. It made me feel like a weakling!! 😂

Man, that's a lot of saw. TOO MUCH saw for me to carry. Those D-ring handles are the same kind I have on my sleds for crying out loud! But, I suppose, with that many c.c.'s and that much compression, you probably need that type of pull start!

It’s funny all my years logging 32” sometimes had 42” bar . Went we use 42” bar were on 12 to 15 Foot fir , cedar and hemlock timber. Old days run husqvarna 98 with old 2 digits # for years . Like see you boys now working on the side of mountain ⛰ for a 10 to 12 hrs day for 6 days . Might make 1/2 day , different them a wood 🪵 yard . Carry your solar power pack and electric sharper along the mountain 🏔 side . 😅😅

As someone who doesn't know anything about chainsaws, is a saw that long more or less dangerous re it kicking up? I imagine it might be more likely to get pinched....but I have no idea.
@iffykidmn8170
@iffykidmn8170 Месяц назад
IMHO shorter bar is more dangerous for kickback as the shorter bar creates a shorter arc, the most prone area for kickback is the tip and both bars have basically the same tip just further from the operator. Longer bar may be more prone to pinching as there is more bar to pinch.
