Best saw. Had mine last 7 years. Still looks new. I put clear plastic film wrap over plastics. Only use 93 or rec 90 gas

And that's how you wear out a chain brake as fast as possible, by starting it like that. I know it's how they probably taught you in some trade school, or by the book, but just start it with the brake off and keep the bar away from you. If you feel you don't have the strength to throw the saw in front of you when starting to keep the bar away from your body then start it on the ground with your foot inside the rear handle. One hand on the top handle with your upper body weight pressing down, the other hand pulls the cord, and your foot holds the back of the saw down. That's honestly the safest way to start a bigger saw that you're unsure you can control when it screams to life. The string? lol. The decompressor is there to make the saw easier on you to pull the saw over when starting, some of us start our saws 50+ times per day and anything that makes your day a little easier while trudging around in 4 feet deep snow through brush on steep hillsides is a very welcome comfort. It's not there to make the "string" last longer. If you're breaking your recoil cord then you have serious problems with your starting technique. I have 20 year old saws in daily use and never broke a recoil cord. I got what I needed from this video so I appreciate it. I ran a 394xp for a few years back in the mid to late 90's then traded it off and stuck with my 064 (it's twice the saw in terms of durability and lighter too), but you tree service guys crack me up. I do remove problem trees for people all the time, but I've been a full time faller for 30+ years and started at 14 years old. My job is slowly being replaced by mechanized falling, but luckily I'm from the Adirondack mountains and the ground is rough and steep enough where small cable skidder operations are still the norm, and being a 4th gen faller keeps me valued I'm a Stihl man, but don't like the direction they went with Obama EPA rules so I was considering a 390. For those of you shopping for a good sized saw you can still find new old stock MS660's out there. They are closer to $1800, but you get 92cc and it doesn't have those goofy caps Stihl went with on most of their MS series of saws like the MS461 (great saw by the way, incredible power to weight, 77cc) I hate those caps though. I didn't have any complaint's with the old ones. If you accidently overtightened, you just stuck your bar wrench in the slot and turned, far more simple than that little flip up tab. When I first saw that cap design I thought I'd be breaking those tabs all the time in below zero weather, but surprisingly I've yet to see one break on any of my 10 saws or any of the saws the people I work with use. I guess I just don't like change when the old design worked just fine and was bullet proof. For those of you shopping for pro saws and if you want my unsolicited advice, try to find a pre EPA saw that's either NOS, refurbished by a reputable seller, or just try to find a low hour older saw. Avoid any Stihl with a "C" at the end of it's model number. The C stands for computer controlled carb adjustment. You'll thank me in 10-20 years. Or wait for the fuel injected Stihls to come down a bit in price and see how they hold up after time. The 500i is selling for around $1500+ right now for 80cc

You’ll wear out the saw before the brake bar.
@jtoddjb
@jtoddjb 3 года назад
@@KennysTreeRemoval That's called the chain brake. Apparently you wear out saws faster than me. Mine last well over 20+ years of daily use falling and bucking
@KennysTreeRemoval
@KennysTreeRemoval 3 года назад
To each his own. I’m not worried about a chain brake. If it needs replacing I go buy another saw. Ps. I got the 500i amazing saw worth every penny, and just picked up a new 661 36” bar. Have a good one bud, thanks for watching.
@jtoddjb
@jtoddjb 3 года назад
@@KennysTreeRemoval Yeah I am anxious to get my hands on one of those 500i's, but I'm going to wait a while and see how they hold up being the first true fuel injected saws I've seen mass produced. Please let me know how yours holds up over time. I have to get at least 20 years out of a saw or I'm not happy so I'm cautious with new stuff. Hope it works out well for you so I can buy one too

I recently purchased the 395xp with a 32” bar. Very nice saw! Plenty of power, and cuts great once I sharpened the new chain in the shop. Took the rakers down quite a bit, and now it’s a wood eater!

@@KennysTreeRemoval So would I. Just bought the 592 XP, it feels lighter than my 390 XP. I changed the 7 pin sprocket to an 8 pin on my 390. I kinda feel like it boggs down in heavy locust wood. What do you think ? I have access to 112 octane gas, I mix my gas @ 40:1 with Mobile1 fully synthetic. I found pump gas lasts 2 month, then it turns milky yellow & sour.

Put the big dogs on it, makes a huge difference. Then do a muffler mod with a 288XP deflecter, clean look and opens the saw up.

So with a 28" bar thats buired in wood, it pulls strong. Of course depends on chain sharpness, soft or hard wood and wet or dry....

New chain bud, you can’t justify shit. Get yourself a 500i will take laps around this saw and half the weight.

Im a new climber looking for a tree saw. Ive been using a 201tc but looking to get my own saw. Could you do a review on the echo 355t and tell us some of the pros and cons from that to the 201
@KennysTreeRemoval
@KennysTreeRemoval 5 лет назад
I had the echo 355t no longer do. I can tell you it’s the most under valued climbing saw on the market, half the price of the 201tc, about the same amount of power, it but lighter in weight. Old school prime choke. No w I hated the small oil caps, always spilling it. If you’re starting out I would definitely go with a 355t if you don’t have the money for the Stihl. But for longevity, quality, less vibration in your hand and fuel efficiency, the Stihl is the way to go. And large oil/fuel caps and capacity.

Hello, thanks for the review. Can this saw handle a 32 or 36 inch bar with skip-tooth chain ?

I say it would pull a 36" no problem just turn the oiler up. I runa 37" on my mill and it pulls through slabs pretty good.
