Hi Bobby One thing I always do before opening up a motor is to blow off all the loose dirt. That helps keep the junk out of the motor internals. Great video. Looking for the next one. Cheers Willy
On any older saw like that especially if it's not a loop scavenging system using a ridge on the piston or it doesn't have a side flow exhaust ( shaft side). You will always have some kind of scoring on the exhaust side. Over time as the rings and seals wear, the saw will run lean causing scoring. If you're using a saw hours on end then after 1000 hours of use the whole saw should be overhauled. This is one of the disadvantages of a high RPM 2 stroke product. Older saws like these with high hours or years of use will always have scoring on the exhaust side of the cylinder
I have one of these 55's that I purchase about a year ago from the original owner in like New Condition no dirt not faded, no oil or scratches anywhere on it so the story was it was put in storage in a plastic case shortly after purchased new in 2001 the original owner then moved several times and it was just forgotten about for about 15 years was only used 2 times for light trim work so no wear on this saw at all he finally cleaned out his storage bin and rediscovered it and sold it to me for $150 and it starts on the 2nd or 3rd pull every time
I always use a paint brush to brush off the debris, a light solvent and light air compressor. Had mine for 15 -16 years now! Still going. Just some TLC and they will last forever!
