Great vid! Liked a few mods, but would do a couple of things different on mine. I’m looking at getting into a 2020 model 701 with the LR additional fuel tank, hopefully we’ll get it in the states. I’d upgrade with a NOMAD-ADV Nomad-R setup which gives me the rally screen, tower (minus the road book stuff, but with lots of USB and power options), and a nice rear rack setup. I’m a huge fan of Mosko Moto gear as well and although I have Bumot on my GS, I’d definitely go with the Reckless 80 on a 701. Looking forward to adding that to my quiver this year. Good job.

Heath Moloney absolutely in love with riding it. Though after not even a month of ownership the clutch slave cylinder went bad. Apparently it’s a known issue. Replacing it with a recluse slave cylinder but it’s a bit frustrating to have a brand new bike I can’t ride at the moment.

Hi Mark, I have a 701 and generally speaking all your mods down to the tires + tubliss and the MM 40 & 80 and even more. You mention mounting the R40 with those straps that go around the leg that you never figured out what they are for... You are number 7865 that uses them wrong like I did also. You attach those to the drybag pulling them snugly down instead of closing the drybags the way you have it now. Just go to the MM site and go to the R80 page, last photo with arrows explains it. (same for the R40) Also, I built my own racks for the R80 but no longer use them. Instead I got an extended plate from Perun and I mounted the passenger footpegs (pegs removed) to attach the R80 webbing to. The mounting point is then very close to the bottom of the R80 legs stabilising significantly. As long as I fill the R80 bags and really pack them down I can now run the R80's without the rack without any problems. Did about 4 weeks total like that. Saves some weight. Mounting the R40 without racks is also much better but you just spent the money on the racks so you'll use them anyway. Also the MM Nomad tankbag is not suited for the 701 or 690 like bikes. These are not my words but Mosko Moto's own words. One of the guys of MM has a 690 and he had to modify his to make it work somewhat. The best mods I have done besides everything you mention is shortening the sidestand. This makes parking offroad with the slightest camber soooo much easier. Also I'm now running 15/52 sprockets. Any sprocket bigger than the stock 46 is a huge win-win situation when riding technical terrain. Any way, just a few hints from a fellow 701 rider :-)

Mark, great videos! I have seen most of them now haha. I've got a 701 too, and a similar setup, and absolutely love it. Question?: What tracks have you been riding in France? I'm planning to go there in a few weeks time. Is it the TET or some other trails too? Thanks, (PS if you ever decide to ride the TET Netherlands, I'm more than happy to ride a few miles with you.) Great video, I'm currently looking for a light adventure bike and considered 701 amongst others. If I may, I just wanted to ask you about regular maintenance and especially oil consumption. It seems that the KTM engines might be thirsty sometimes and I wondered if that applied to newer generation and you seem to use your bike a fair bit.

Hello Mark. Good vid. Love the humour incorporated into it - and the Star Wars titles (not that I’m biased)! One concern regarding the front tyre though - on that model of MotoZ - is the Speed Rating..! 54M is way under the specified S rating! If the Welsh coppers (who are really focusing on trail bikes) picked up on that, they could impound the bike - on the spot!!! 😥 It’s a shame Husqvarna couldn’t go with the same as the rear - R - because S rated knobbies are hard to find! 🤨 Regards, darth.

I’ve read reports on our TRF group... They even look for the Rotation Arrow!!! Pretty sure though that on a bike like yours/ours, properly kitted up; full size clean number plate; not looking like we’ve just stolen it; they are unlikely to bother us! 😂

I tried tubliss on my husky enduro front wheel, I learned tyre choice is important and Michelin enduro mediums have too thin sidewalls to run low pressures so you are not really gaining anything. when I took the tyre off it was way too easy to catch the tubliss innertube and damage it with a lever. upshot is I have gone back to mousses. have you had any trouble changing tyres? if they wernt so easy to damage I would consider going back as they are much cheaper than mousses, although I am able to save weight not needing to carry puncture repair gear.

Mark - I have a 701 Enduro with a very similar set up: the SC seat, the Perun rack and have been using the Mosko Moto Reckless 80 luggage. I suffered exactly the same problem that you describe - the luggage rotates around a virtual axis running from the fixings near the crank case to the fixings at the back of the Perun rack. It causes the luggage to hit the brake caliper unless you stop frequently to pull it all back into position. I partially solved the issue with an extra strap under the saddle secured to the bottom of the reckless panneir sleeve. I've decided to get a rack to solve the problem properly so would be really interested to know whether your Vanasche rack works well with the REckless 80. Can you report on this yet?

Hi mark I run tublliss on my exc 2 stoke but had to add wheel weights to balance. Was afraid on my 701 that it would require to much counter balance. My friend hated the road wobble with tubliss on his 690 so he went back to tubes. What are you doing to balance your 701. Cheers

Hi Mark, the 701 looks great and now youve really got me wanting one !!. I have the ATAS at the moment and saw that you drove an AT round South Africa. I would be interested to hear your comparisons of the AT v 701. I'm just not sure I would do as much of the hard core off road stuff that the 701 is well capable of, so am inclined to think the ATAS is better for me as it's more road biased but could tackle the odd trail. Anyway, be good to hear your thoughts. Cheers

Jen is 5ft6 and can't quite flat foot the CRF - even lowered (but not far off). At 5ft4 the Yamaha Serow (if you can find one) may work better? Although I'm sure the CRF would too - it's not so much the height, the Honda is just a bit heavy for a lighter rider. Jen often drops it even if she can get a foot down due to the weight (off road....she's not throwing down the highway on a regular basis!!!) And the wall units are from Questsystem - in the UK B&Q sell them. Cheap and good!

How much does a top end rebuild cost for one of these bikes, or a KTM 690? The only thing keeping me from buying one is the lack of actual engine components. When I buy something, I keep it for a while and I don’t want to be at the mercy of a dealer for major parts/components. Any help much appreciated.

Hi Mark, I have a 701 and love it. I have a really bad weave/ front wheel wobble at around 65/70mph on road. Only started when I changed to Motoz tyres. Adventure spec have been very helpful and did supply a replacement tyre. Fitted brass balance weights too. Still there!! Driving me mad any ideas? Am seeing a suspension specialist in a couple of weeks but just thought I would make contact if you have any ideas or experienced same issue? I was off on a 4 month trip around Central America/USA and Covid stopped me 3 days before departure!! So need to sort this for the future. Am happy to provide an email/ mobile if better way to communicate. Steve

Hey steve - I am not the person t o ask - I know little about my bikes other than how to stay on them (most of the time) - I did find the motoz would feel nasty on the road (but I got used to it) My wife rode a CRF250 with them and following her bike it looked like she was on sand at 65mph on the M4!!!!! All that said - when I saw a suspension guy to sort out stiffer springs (due to my weight) he had all the answers about that sort of stuff - so ask your guy when you see him - those boys know their stuff on these issues.

Very curious how you've got the Tubliss system sorted since they're designed for 21” x 1.60 and 18” x (1.85”-2.15”) rims And i believe the 701 runs 21” x 1.85 and 18” x 2.50” like my 690 does. Would love to go with Tubliss myself aswell!

It’s been beating me to death till I found out last week (both springs white) so,DO NOT take anything to KAIS !Its a lot better now...TFFT !

Not being an owner of a 701, one issue I notice is when you strap luggage to the back, how much of a faff is it to fill with fuel? I have noticed that rally tanks mounted at the front have filler necks each side so this should theoretically avoid any issue as they should also fill the original tank. The filler cap position has always been a bug bear with me on the 690/701.

You run Tubliss but still carry a spare tube? Why? I'm a Tubliss user and have never carried an inner tube - are you doing this just incase the Tubliss fails - and if that's the reason do you carry spare front and rear tubes? Not judging, just curious.
