Even the most exxagerated claims of clipless pedals do not justify them for someone who doesn't race. Most people are not racing and 99% are not racing at an elite level where 30 seconds advantage over a 25 miles matter at all. Cycling specific shoes are dumb and a waste of money. Throw some vans on and jeans and a t-shirt and enjoy riding your bike places, more often, eat less cake for more than marginal gains. Clipless pedals are as useful as aero socks for the average bike rider. But you don't look pro is the only downside to a flat pedal.
Try flat pedals with classic Converse shoes! They are very flexible, and the rubber sole grabs the pedal strongly. They can be used to give your feet a break from cycling shoes. Converse's breathability is also great.
I moved to beautiful swaledale last year after selling a large proportion of my business. 5.30 most mornings my wife and I walk up and run down the nearest (of many) hills before taking the kids to school. To be out in nature with the sunrise and no humans around is a special feeling. To be out in the hills in the driving rain at night on a run or in the snow beats suburbia 99 times out of a hundred
I had the choice between the Fenix 47mm and the Epix 47mm. I chose the Fenix as it was in a deal at half the price of the Epix. £349 compared to £699. Is the Epix worth twice the price? Did I make a mistake? 😁
Ran my first 5k yesterday in 37 minutes (including a few minute walk to the woods) and I was actually impressed because i thought i could never run 5k like that. Your videos really inspire me because it shows that no matter where you start, you can train hard and achieve your goals. Thanks Mark!
Really enjoying this channel for the fitness training, motivational tips and your wry humour. @MarkLewisfitness - "Shoo the Chickens" is a real thing - @sophiebiggs regularly incorporates it into her running stability classes eg: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3M6Qq-gBR6E.html (In case she seems familiar, you might have noticed Sophie going past you on the odd ultra 😎).
Long ago, race walking was America's first professional sport. Competitions were often held on indoor tracks, with individuals or teams competing to see who could complete a set distance the quickest, or who could cover the most distance in a given amount of time. In one contest, a team of American walkers handily beat a team of British runners. There's a lot of history in race walking. One of my personal training clients stopped running due to knee pain, then took up race walking. She was in her 50s and had been race walking for a few years when I started working with her. With a bit of training, her one mile pace dropped to about 9:33, very good for an amateur and a new PR for her. In a large running event, she was walking faster than half of the runners, and she competed in distances up to 10 miles.
I’m incredibly glad that you found a remedy for improving your mental health, that’s a positive thing. I watched both videos you’ve posted on the topic. My personal feeling on this is that is this…As someone who’s a similar of an age as you and competing in Hyrox. I don’t have a need and don’t use TRT. Will I be at a disadvantage to someone of the same age and ability however, using TRT?
Who knows - the reality is that there are not too identical people. So you may get beat beat by me because I'm taller, faster, etc than you - and I was those things before TRT. That said, Hyrox is now PED tested so it's no longer relevant 😁
Mark what’s your understanding on rebuilding your natural test once off TRT .. is it recommended to use HCG while on TRT.. what’s your experience in this space … 37 no kids Current test level is 15.1 I was 23.1 in 2020
When I lived in KCMO I would go out for my 10 mile runs three times a week working up to the twice monthly summer HMs. I was in my mid-20s and not rapid but not bad. Every so often I would run across a woman who had at least a decade on me and she would walk right past me like I was crawling. It encouraged me to work at a harder pace. Turned out it was Debbie Lawrence. That made me feel a whole lot better.
It’s been a few years would you consider doing a quick follow up to this video? Do you still use this? Has your opinion changed? Have you seen any different benefits?
I just discovered you and I think you are absolutely brilliant. I love your dogs!! I'm soon to be 64 and have been working out for over 40 years. I used to do a lot of running but now I mostly do Stair Master/Step Mill and Assault bike.
I'm 49, always been very active, I've never had test levels checked and no TRT. In my province in Canada the thought of doing that seems very unimportant amongst the high paid medical community here. I would like to look into this eventually. I would imagine maintaining a more optimal testosterone level while undergoing intense training that often destroys this would be very very advantageous for the person competing in many athletic events, especially endurance based. I seem to be doing ok regardless of my hormonal status. But watching social media and influencers do what they do to build an audience, I'm very skeptical of their transparency and honesty. I think everyone should be a little easy on themselves when watching people who say Go 1 more, etc with a financial stake in a company or trying to build a following based on their appearance and performance. Don't be too hard on yourself and don't compare to anyone out there these days because many have the money and ability to get the best of everything to perform at levels that will never relate to most people. It's hard to be inspired by the vast majority of influencers these days because i just know i can't relate to what they do. I think too many people follow these people and build them up when they should simply focus on doing what they can with what they have in life. I get it when people say they can't relate and unfollow some of these influences.
Mate, I’m in the same boat. Been inactive for 5-6 months. Everything I do now sucks. But it has to be done. I know I’ll come out better. So will you. LFG
OMG, what a refreshing and entertaining video, thank you so much. I was on the fence for so long between these two brands but I think, for my own personal use, the Apple Watch ultra makes so much more sense. I am currently trying out the Garmin Epix pro gen 2 sapphire but I think I will be returning it as it is too much for me, though I do like the morning report - I don’t think you can get that on the Apple Watch can you? I am anything but a runner or fittie and have certainly never run a marathon, though I would love to be able to but I never will. Thank you so so much for this video, BRILLIANT😊😊
All TRT does for you is give you the energy and recovery you had when you were 18. If you're a fat slob, you'll continue to be a fat slob. TRT doesn't ifx that. YOU have to fix it. Put in the work and hours of exercise to get in shape. I am on TRT and I am happy I am.
I have exactly the same habits, frenzied eating, hiding my eating, etc. You explain it perfectly. But I have times when things are in control, exercising keeps my sanity. However, I keep moving forward.
Their form all needs work but I'm especially bothered by their footing. You shouldn't be using the foot straps to pull against, and you should keep your feet as flat as possible throughout to deliver power most efficiently. A good way to practice good form with your feet is to not use the foot straps at all and learn how to use your whole body to recover to the catch position without pulling the tops of your feet against the straps.
