Hello Dom! So I'm at the point where I want to get into rally racing. You obviously went with a paper roadbook, but if I were to invest in either a paper or digital, which one would you recommend? It seems like the future is digital, or?

Nice! Ok let me share my Wisdom that I have up to now: Basically there are 2 Options to go with, Digital or Paper. Be aware that these are totally independent Systems from each other so you either go with one or the other Set Up to the starting Line. For Example if you go digital, your Controller on your Handlebar will only work with your digital Roadbook, so you should think about what you want carefully in the Beginning (also because it is quite expensive) because they won't be compatible to each other, so you can't use one Controller for Paper and Digital Roadbook ath the same Time. Your Set up consists out of the Roadbook, the Controller, the Trip Meter, the Cap (Compass Heading, not necessary until you race in the Desert).

If you go digital it will be Cheaper because your Mobile will include the Roadbook, the Tripmeter and the Cap based on the GPS Signal, you just need a Controller and I suggest to buy the Carpe Iter Terrain Command 2 as well as a solid shock proof Mobile, at best with some big Battery (like 10.000mA) or some Wireless charging so that you dont have to use the Port to charge it, the Port will break due to Vibration someday I promise. You can check out Outdoor Smartphones Brands like Doogee, Black View etc., but it has to be Android because you need to run the DMD2 App (Drive Mode Dashboard).

I made some Video regarding the Controller and its Function with Drive Mode Dashboard. The Drive Mode Dashboard App will contain your Roadbook, Trip and Cap. The Disadvantage of the digtial Set Up is that these are Electronics which are not easily to be repaired if they break, everybody knows freezing Issues with Mobiles, failing Apps and so on... It can work fine but as soon as you get a Problem you have a real Problem and maybe you won't fix it so fast.

There comes the Advantage of the Paper Roadbook. It only consists out of simple Electronics with some simple and easily accessible electrical Circuits, even in Case your Electronic will break you can still scroll the RB forward by Hand and continue your Race. If your Mobile Breaks you can go back to the Hotel. Also your Paper Set Up could have some Tripmeter with a Wheelsensor that is directly mounted to you Frontwheel, so you dont need to rely on some good GPS Signal instead you rely on the Distance that you really drove and that was measured on your Front Wheel. I heard Stories of the Helas Rally that Drivers did not have some GPS Signal in the Mountains, so you are basically lost.

Altogether you can break it down like this: Digital: Less Expensive, easy to use, not that reliable and nearly no Repair possible. Paper: Quite expensive (Paperroadbook, Holder, Tripmeter, Controller, Cap, Wheelsensor are all own Parts), easy to repair, reliable. If you really like Rally Sports you should go the oldschool Way, also because of the Feeling. Everything is digital right now so its good to go back to the Roots sometimes even if it is more expensive. I also have some digital Set Up and I am still working on my Paperroadbook Set Up. On the other Hand you could go digital and also use your Controller for Mobile Navigation on the TET if you like to. Both have their own Advantages as always there is no clear Way to go :D

Hello Dom, Brilliant idea with the bolts you are using for the windshield. Please supply me with the link to the bolts you ordered from Amazon. Thank you!

Hey Alex!
