Thank you for supporting this channel by using the links provided. The Husqvarna Rancher 460 is a powerful gas powered chainsaw. I bought the Rancher 460 to use for cutting up slabs and bowl blanks. The Rancher 460 is similar to the Husqvarna Rancher 55, with the main difference being that the Rancher 460 is slightly more powerful with a 60 cc motor, and the two Husqvarna saws have the same weight.
The reason that I went with the Husqvarna Rancher 460 vs. Stihl 271 or Stihl 291 was that I felt that the Husqvarna Rancher 460 provided better value, and both Husqvarna and Stihl had a great reputation for quality and power.

Congratulations on your new saw, Paul! I use an old 266xp with a 20" bar, and I'm currently rebuilding the motor on a 576xp that I just acquired.

@ToolMetrix 4 года назад
Thanks, Mark. Combining that 576XP with your bad-to-the-bone Jeep will make you one of America's most unstoppable bowl blank poachers. :) I want to do a "bowl blank hunting" trip with you sometime. It looks like more fun than turning itself.

The premixed fuel is amazing, you get more power and higher rpms out of your engine.i use it in all my 2 cycle engines.

@@ToolMetrix I second that - you can leave that premixed fuel in the saw (or any other machines that take it) for extended periods of time with no worries about ethanol eating away at plastics. Worth it's weight in gold unless you're chainsawing a LOT.

Canned fuel is the best way to go for storage purposes. Keeps your carburetor clean and safe while the saw is not in use. I use pump gas for cutting and canned fuel on the last few cuts I make prior to storing the saw for a few weeks or months. Ethenol and Benzene are carburetor killers. Both found in pump gas.

Nice little wood chuck there. Seems you'll get plenty of use and happiness after you feel your way thru it. But I do think 24 is gonna be pushing it harder than needs to be, 20 is good.
@ToolMetrix
@ToolMetrix 4 года назад
You might be right, Gary. I'd probably never go to 24" unless I build a mill, which is probably a long shot.

I live in rural Sask Canada. I just picked up the 24" bar version. To add to my 445E and my 120mark11. Great saw will buck tons of wood. Good choice to upgrade from stihl.

is there a version of the 460 that comes with the quick caps for fuel and oil or do you have to add them?

Hi Jamie, In my research in buying this saw I never came across a bundle that included them but I don’t know for sure.

The can fuel is this best way togo if your not going to use saw everyday. The fuel dose have a longer shelve life.

Thanks for the feedback. That's kinda what I was thinking, but I didn't have any real evidence other than the manufacturer's claim, which was ambiguous. But if it keeps me out of trouble it will be worth it.

Paul, please don’t let me see you “halfing” a log from the end grain again. You rip it with the grain, saves the chain from dulling so fast and is much faster. Also cradle the log length wise between some 4x4‘s (cris-crossed) to get it off the ground. I enjoy your vids, thumbs up!
@ToolMetrix
@ToolMetrix 4 года назад
Hi Woody, thanks for the input. I learned about the halving technique that you describe shortly after halving the log for this video. It definitely works better. :) Good suggestion on the cradle as well. In this case the log was sitting on a stump so I wasn't worried about cutting through. Cheers, Paul

The fuel is very high octane. Higher than premium at most gas stations. Will make chainsaws scream.

Not knocking the 460 but hell for a little more you could of got a 550XP which is pro grade on another level. Lighter and smaller than a 460 but will cut twice as fast. Also the XP's are all still made in Sweden. Love Husky but the price of a 460 is outrageous for what it is. And another thing alot of people dont know is the Echo 590 is a much better built saw in that class and has magnesium crankcase. This saw only sits around $400. The 460 is what upwards of $600?
