I attended a webinar yesterday put on by Rick and hosted by our supply house. Awesome presentation. There were no sales pitches or any pushing of their products. Great job producing real training that makes us better techs.

Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate it! Let us know if there is other content you would like for Rick to make videos about.

While watching the part where you measure the pitch with the gauge, it shows 20⁰, but you state 24⁰. The geometrical way of measuring the pitch gives us 24⁰ too. However, I had to back up the video again to take a look at the gauge and it "looked" like it showed 20⁰.

Wow, rocket science for an hvac fan blade. Who would have thunk it. 😁 thanks.

I couldn't have done it without you, but i do wonder why the pitch is not stamped into the fan ?

i found out the alternate formula for this : sine(inverse) of (height/blade width) in this case it is 4/9.5 = 0.421 sine (inv) of 0.421 = 24.9 degrees

Good explanation. Thank you. Is there any formula to know the new quantity and pressure will be developed by a fan keeping all other factor constant, and only changing the pitch angle?

One thing that I’ve noticed in the carrier/icp comfort series is that there units often vary on the number of blades on their condenser fans but they are still the same tonnage. For example I saw a 2 3 ton carriers, both straight cool from 2022, one had 2 blades the other had 3. Idk why that is

How do I bend the pitch blades on a say wood stove fan so I can get more air circulations? To be used on ATG/DynaGlo/MrBuddy? Or what would be best fan blades adjustment tips?

Can we get the direction of flow just by looking at the blades of the fan? Or looking at the blades of the fan can we predict the direction of flow based on clockwise or anticlockwise movement? It might be stupid question but I have been trying to find a proper answer to this? Any input will be a great help !!!

Hope this isn’t a stupid question but what if you flipped the fan over? Same? How can you tell which way to put a fan on. Sure some go on one way or the old one is on it for you to see. I own a restaurant and guys work on my refrigerators putting on parts that aren’t oem. They May be guys that don’t know and put it on wrong. Or it’s all they had on the truck. I come along and wonder which way gets the most air flow. Try googling it. I’ve been on here an hour without finding a definitive answer. When I think I have someone in the comment section argues that the article is wrong and to do it the other way. Next thing you know 2 engineers are arguing about it. I kid you not lol. Long flat side in front with curve in back? Is the front where the model number is written or where the the lock ring goes? Thank you for the video and hopefully you can help.

That’s a good question. Typically, the fan is intended to be mounted one way. If the fan is “flipped over” from its proper installation, it would be less efficient and it would result in less air movement. The fan blade may have a concave or “cupped side”, which would be the discharge side of the fan blade. The air should then blow over the coil. If the fan blade is operating in the wrong rotation, then the air flow would be reduced and would flow in the wrong direction.

Great. But, I have a two bladed fan blade which one is correct? How would I know? The motor was replaced and it looks like it is faster than the old motor. How would I determine how much air I need to move to be back within the specifications of the condenser?
@TheLarryBrown
@TheLarryBrown Год назад
Consult the documentation for that condenser model. I just looked up my 1982 model RUUD and found online the manual that specified how much air. In this day of internet it's "usually" easy to find manuals like that.

Had a larger fan (extract) break one blade yesturday, fibreglass/plastic kind of thing, these dont have a consistent face but i wondered if i could just use a sliding bevel and take that angle from horizontal to get the pitch, the bigger issue is its an extract for a large factory, so ill assume the fans network was designed, and i could call it a challenge to just get a new fan to say the least… to top it off, my colleague broke the motor removing the fan hub. Theres gotta be a better way to do this, surely.

What is the right pitch to get more air?
@packardonline
@packardonline 3 года назад
The "right pitch" is dependent upon the design of the equipment. Some equipment may have coils that require a specific amount of air. In all cases, the pitch has to result in the load that the motor is designed for when using the proper motor.

Just do height / width x 57.3 and forget all the 180 and pi stuff.

Good video.,..but too Mr. Rogers for my taste. You are not speaking to 4 year olds. This slow style of delivery might be more appropriate in a classroom setting, but with a video like this that can be watched repeatedly, stopped for thought, and replayed at will this slow delivery may not be the best. Also in all things I like to hear theory behind things rather than the magic formula presented here. That feedback said, good video and useful
