I like watching you do stuff like this that’s what my dad has done for years he’s been in the business for over 40 some years in the heating and air business and if he could make things work he did for people he didn’t just push new product just to sell it if there was no other way to do it then of course he would sell new stuff, but he always tried to help people with what he had a great job. I know your daughter will appreciate it.

i dont know where he is from but in ontario canada r22 is banned, this unit would have to be replaced no questions asked.

Did just that for a nice older woman on home hospice cars. She lasted 9 days, condenser is still running to this day.

My granddad used to do stuff like this all the time. I used to ride around with them when I was a kid and help him out. Those were good lessons I learned a lot about honesty hard work doing your best for people and making the best of a situation that isn't ideal. No bitching start fixing he would say. This was a very manly and inspiring video to watch 💪🏾

You are doing a wonderful job. The video is very amazing. I hope you will benefit from the upcoming videos on how to treat the air conditioner that works with 22 gas and convert it to 410 gas. Thank you very much. I wish you good luck and success.

I had to subscribe. This was one of the best videos- and right up my alley. I’ve got two old Armstrong air R22 units from ‘89 and still going strong. If either of my compressors short to ground, I’ll be trying this myself………. I’ve always thought about it, and it’s nice to see that it can be done.

I had a R22 compressor change out a week ago. Worked well. Saved me $thousands. I wish I had done an acid test and still plan to do so. Thanks for the video.

Those old bristols were durable compressors- I had a similar retro-fit... Worked like a charm - nice job man!

Nice retrofit! It's tough when the piping is on the other side, but looks great. Yes, those Copeland CR compressors are built pretty good, but yea, the let you know they are running. Reminds me of the 10 ton Carriers that use 2 of those CR compressors or a Goodman! Bet customer is happy you got it working on "spare" parts!

You can use R427A with the mineral oil. Nearly similar pressures as R22 and cheap.

That is a strainer to catch all the crap before the accurate metering device. That is one of Carriers great ideas.

Glad you explained why you were doing it in the video. I was thinking, man I could do a package to package in the time it took to pull the old compressor, etc. but I get it now. Keep it going for a while longer, maybe 2 months, maybe 10 years.

You the man. I work on residential ac on various rental properties and I also piece a lot of stuff together from salvaged equipment. At my own house I have a compressor that is sitting outside of the unit because it wouldn't fit where the bad compressor was mounted. It looks bad, but it was a free fix and nobody sees it but me so I'm fine with it. Got the compressor from a unit that the bottom pan had rusted out terribly.

I have that exact unit and it’s working fine ,but about a year ago I went on eBay and found a new in the box compressor for $150.00 . I put it up for when I’ve got to do the same thing you are doing . I have saved a jug of 22 just for my stuff .

Nice work getting that old beast running again. I’ve had to re-pipe my share of compressor replacements. My company does work for a home warranty company and they will not replace a system unless it’s absolutely necessary. I’ve put compressors in 30 year old R22 systems! I’ve had to convert the piping on several old reciprocating compressors that are no longer made so Copeland replaces it with a scroll. Sometimes they’ll send some piping with the compressor but you still have to use some elbows and do some cutting and swaging. I actually enjoy doing them but it makes no sense to put a compressor in an R22 system this day and age. We’ve been using 422b in place of R22 but there’s some capacity loss. I forgot how much exactly. I think it’s around 5 percent.

dont ever do a compressor without changing the filter dryer. Compressors now cost easy double what they did a few years ago. this made very good sense imo what you did. it is a little risky for sure i agree. but the risk to reward is so worth it. need to make sure all other components are good especially contactor, caps, motors. make sure air filters are kept clean etc. do a maintenance every year. I could see getting 10+ years out of it. them carrier heat exchangers are amazing. probably eventually need a board, inducer motor. i mean parts are gonna go it aint gonna be free but with how much new systems cost installed i love this. i hate how new systems have become such throw away now. Ive been doing this 20 years and i take pride in my ability to repair hvac. unfortunately now im starting to feel ike a tv repairman. its now going to where if it breaks u just replace it. my talents will become obsolete

It’s working really good. I think the hot spell we’ve had is about over so it was definitely worth the labor that afternoon to get it back up and running. If it lasts out the rest of AC season and I have time I may put a drier on it. If so I’ll make a video. Thanks for watching!
