This WIC was running warm and found multiple issues. Compressor contractor, condenser fan motor capacitor and a major headmaster issue. Flashing sight glass, high head pressure, and hissing TXV.
Guys, plenty of y’all have stated that “I could have pinched off the discharge line”. Yes I know that. But I will not do anything without an approval. This customer always finds away to not pay the bill so I will not do anything that will put the company at risk or I will not do anything without an actual approval. That’s the reason why I left it as it was. It’s been like that for who knows how long. So???🤷♂️
Rules are rules. Plain and simple. You do what you have to. Not what you want to. It's hard to understand sometimes, but you're doing what you need to.
You know what I do with customers who bitch about and pick apart bills when they issue a NTE that barely gets diagnostic time much less any repairs? Tell em the phone book is full of other guys. Call them, and lose my number please. If I wanted to do volunteer work I’d join the peace corps.
@ Nice attitude dude. I'll bet you have more business than you can handle.

And I’ll bet you will take anything and everything that comes along including shit which I take none of. My customers respect me and request me because I treat them fairly like adults. You obviously have no experience with brokers or national account customers otherwise you would know they are assholes who think they are doing you a favor by allowing you to work on their shit. A NTE that is eat up with travel time by the time you arrive, check in lines, check out lines, take and email photos of this, submit that, then wait around to see if we approve what you say the problem is. I’m not the one with the attitude son, they are. I don’t jump through hoops for anyone. Almost 30 years in the field bud. More than likely Ive forgotten more than you currently know.
Your videos are awesome! Please show even the beginner stuff, don't assume your viewers know everything, in fact quite the opposite. More of your subscribers are trying to learn and are not expert techs bored on a Sunday that wanna watch videos for fun. We're trying to learn the business from someone like yourself to better ourselves and make more money. Thanks and keep up the good work! You are very good at what you do and it is appreciated by business owners and us subscribers!
j kelz the problem is that you can’t show all of the basics all of the time in every video. I get your point but there is plenty of videos on other channels as well that show that. He’s pretty much going through the troubleshooting of his work. If you know the basics of refrigeration you can see his process better and understand it. After you watch a video just look up the part that you don’t understand. That’s how I do it and it’s getting easier to do on my own out in the field.
Yeah man, my videos are already 13+ minutes, which I think is long. If I had to go through alot more basics, id have extremely long videos. But I'll try to get some better beginner info. Thanks for bringing it up.
That's probably a case of: "The unit isn't working. I don't know what this thing is it must be the problem. I'll just cut it out." People tend to blame the thing they understand the least. If you don't know how it works you can't be the one to condemn it.
Except.... the could have cut out the Headmaster and capped off the bypass. It would’ve actually worked, at least in the summer, and would’ve been easier and faster to do. They worked extra hard at fucking up.
Pro tip. To save time, prevent incorrect wiring, with the power off, only one of the two terminals need disconnected to test a cap to isolate it from the motor. Then the wires can be returned to the empty terminal without risk of swapping a wire.
OcRefrigeration , Hvac & Electrical Video's. Lmao. I know. Everyone is saying “you could’ve pinched that line off”. Or do this. Lol. Nope. Not without an authorization
Never worry about problems like that your hands are tied. Cheap ass company that gives you a cost limit like that. They can't spend the money because they have a house payment on Maui. Tell your boss to get rid of this customer.
Good job I would suggest when you see a bad contactor to always check your low voltage to your coil on contactor I’ve seen the low voltage transformer putting out 24 volts then dropping to 14 volts burns the contacts if you don’t catch it you will eat up the new contactor good video
You can’t fix stupid. Companies want their stuff working right, but don’t want to pay for it. Why can’t I go into their stores and take some drinks so I can stay hydrated and not pay for it? I would be arrested. They basically steal our services. However, I’m trying to learn more about the supermarket refrigeration systems, so these videos really help. Thank you!
Rookie Refrigeration that’s the only way to handle the company. If that’s what they want, that’s what they get. You have to get approval for everything big or small in order to cover yourself.
Is it the general manager placing the call and you gotta wait for them to get approval? I can see a customer doing that just because GM's are not exactly in mensa. Have a feeling it's to prevent stupid service calls from lower management.🤷♂️
@@rookierefrigeration4357 there would be a couple weeks of work at every location we service if we didn't need authorization. You can't charge someone for something that wasn't authorized. Where im at we're now getting signatures before we touch anything, , use to not be that way but people will look for a way to get out of paying.
@@rookierefrigeration4357 I agree too. I've done work for many gas station owners before. And none of them like to pay. If you would've touched that piping you would've been held accountable had something went wrong after you left.
My guess is it was the dead of winter and they found the "little mushroom thingy" dumping hot gas into the receiver and instead of adding the winter charge, they replaced them with copper... Probably ran ok when it was really cold out. Thing is he was probably really proud when he was done that he fixed it 🤣. Of course they never changed the driers either 🙄.
@@rookierefrigeration4357 yeah that was one of the funniest things I've seen on RU-vid for refrigeration. I literally laughed out loud... I am currently doing a call on 15 doors of frozen food and it has the 7.5hp version of that unit, and it's low on gas with a warmish liquid line. I had to stick my head in there and make sure the head master bandit wasn't he too and just replaced it with copper. 😂
somebody didn t understand the function of a head master.unit probably under charged on start up.so the valve was bypassing, doing its job,and not being familiar with the head master thought the the bypss was a fault, and cut it out.should never have piped the unit in this fashion.compressor oil must be baked.suprised it still ran.have to leak test system with nitrogen and change oil i would think.they went to a lot of effort to to create a mess.
Why even go on a call like this? Total waste of time. I’ve had one before where they said I had to call if over 250, from a electronics store “chain brand” called them up and said sorry, call the next fool. This setup, lol, you need to remove the roof, to stop the hot air from circulating.
In my area probably labor will eat into the $800 right now labor is $94 up to $145 per hour plus parts .You couldn't do the proper job for $800 plus parts .This is what happens when you have customers have a low ball contractor not doing proper job .
Yup. I “could have”. But this account is so unpredictable there’s no telling what will happen. So we don’t do anything without approval. That’s the way they want to play the game unfortunately
What you shoul have done is write it all up first. Your diagnostic was not complete because you just asumed gas was flashing and thats all it was. Now you need a head master or fan cycling control. By the time you add your service trip, parts and labor you will way over $1500 including the head master. This one is on you. Sorry but don't be the guy blaming the previous guy. He just gave you the oportunity to shine and make money.
Sorry, about my english...why one of the unit didnt has the refrigerant complete?.,,,is there any refrigerant leak?,,,or it had incomplete refrigerant from the begining?
capacity control. They are using it to prevent fast pull down, thereby not stressing the walk in box or the bottles of product. Then they can sell slow cooled drinks. Customers will love it.
@@rookierefrigeration4357 I agree. Technicians have no mandate of this kind or mission from God to do good. Customer runs the show. Learning takes place on both sides all the time. They will finally understand that if you want to pay below what market requires, you'll get sub-par service. Also, "you touched it you own it". If something went wrong you would be screwd. Good judgement, good rules. Thank you RR for your effort to help us learn.
Don`t know how it works in the states but where i am from the good tech CHOOSE his clients and not the other way around. I did get chosen when i was starting and proving my worth but after a few years i got fed up with the BS and waste of my time so now i choose my clients and IF they behave and pay me what i quote they get serviced or i walk away and most probably they get fleeced by the next hack job. Let's just say they usually behave at let me do my work once they get effed one or two times, i even give them second chances once the rules are clear. Business have no regrets or pride... Edit: oh and usually i ask 80 up to 100% payment up front on subtotal, that alleviates the customer's urges of leaving me without my pay.
I'm pretty sure if a company put those kind of time restraints/billing cap on my company we'd tell them to take a hike. That's messed up. The job takes the time it takes.
I dont disagree with you but sometimes those owners were taken advantage of, whats the big deal of getting an approval to get it repaired! sometimes its best, let them know that there is something seriously wrong and the only way to fix it, is to do what is needed. when quotes get sent and no repair is done by my company quote after quote.... then i will rub them off my customer list! i think thats more fair!
WOW!! That’s ridiculous bro!! Someone forgot to pinch off the discharge line... pinch it off and add a fan cycle control. Ain’t no point of doing anything with extending that BS nte. Walk away and quote the shit outta them
Normal day. Haha Those electronic txv are rated up to 6 tons, so every drop of liquid is probably getting into each coil. I bet each valv is maxed out at 249 steps. If it was a mechanical txv, no way it would be pulling down. Hilarious, their stupid not to exceed probably fucked them. Nobody can do a full checkout and repair for 500 or even 800 on two units. Nice job
By the way .. Thats the reason they are running undercharged... Best you can get out of it.. Bypassed.. Full charge to specs..will never work in current situation. So my gut ..low charge to get by.? Bryan Tyler .
They arent supposed to store inventory in the walkway of those coolers. they have a line they can't cross on the floor and usually have one on the wall they cant stack higher than.
Those coils inside look fairly new and condensing units.. Is there any warranty? Or liability on original installers you can go back to. Also, they need ( Murphy) to know on a hot day your never going to have cold product until there fixed correctly.. Unbelievable... Keep us posted.. Thx for your time brother. Bryan Tyler Refrigeration
Not HVAC tech but I'd understand the basic and cutting out headmasters not brightiest idea good way burning unit up the hot gas can't be good on the evaporator condensing units im left speechless SMH
Yeah, as techs we go in after someone else's "screw up" and immediately put the blame on the last guy. Truth is, the client putting something like an NTE and good old "can't you just make it run now!?" Is partly to blame as well.
Yup. Several guys have suggested that. My response is, “not without an approval”. Because in 3 or 6 months that compressor takes a shit and it’s my fault. Lol. 😂😂
Could you pinch off the bypass where the headmaster valve was originally? As a temp repair to get the unit on line until the head master gets installed? Really like your videos, I run commercial service calls in south florida.
Yes I could have. But I didn’t. I won’t. I’m not going to do anything that puts us in a liability whatsoever. I’ll wait until the job is approved and then fix it. I mean, it’s probably been like this for 2 years. So...
