Hwy 89 over Luther Pass to CA NV State Line 

If you are looking for a scenic drive in California, you might want to try the route that combines Highway 89 and Highway 88 from Highway 50 in Myers to the California/Nevada state line. This drive will take you through some of the most beautiful landscapes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with views of lakes, forests, peaks and valleys. Follow Highway 89 south as it climbs up to Luther Pass and then descends into Hope Valley, a wide meadow surrounded by towering mountains. Here you can join Highway 88 east and continue your journey through the Carson Pass Highway.
As an alternative, you can follow Highway 89 north to Markleeville, a charming town with a rich history and a nearby hot springs park. Or you can stay on Highway 88 east as it enters Nevada and becomes Nevada 88, as we did in this video. This road will take you to Minden-Gardnerville, and continue on U.S. 395 to explore more of the region, but that’s a subject of another video.
