It's our car for almost 2 years, bought second hand for under 30k, very happy with the decision. Not many of them on the road, so we catch quite a lot of attention. Fast, quiet, beautiful, 360 view cameras help with city parking. It broke once on a family trip (a bolt came loose and caused oil leak, at VW service center they said it is a common problem and happens a lot, but as it is not life threatening, there was no recall), and this is when we really appreciated the car with 2 engines - instead of being stuck on the road, we drove in fully electric mode remaining 80km, with 2 stops to recharge, kids spent time in McDonalds and on a playground. Downside - you cannot service this car yourself (not many people do it anyway, but my husband changed oil and filters in every petrol car we owned before) everything is tight, special tools needed, electric engine can be dangerous.

Thanks for making this video. I would be interested in learning how reliable the car is over time and anything that broke and needed to be fixed.

Thanks for your comment! Here is my recent feedback: As far as now, nothing major broke. - Little plastic parts fell apart on the drive handle, which I think isn't a sign of excellent quality but overall, the built quality inside is what you'd expect from a car at that price (even better from the POV of a friend owning a BMW). - Shock absorbers are a bit noisy in some specific conditions. - "High" consumption when driving at 140 km/h = about 7L/100 while driving at 130 drops to 5.5 / 6L /100 which is good in my opinion. - Service is expensive at VW. Nearly 100k kms and I'm still very happy with it today. Biggest downside: very unstable on snowy roads.

Merci pour cette video ! Très instructive ! Er les passages filmé au drone sont parfaits! Tu parles d'autonomie électrique plutot aux alentours des 30 km, est ce uniquement en montagne ? Quid de la récupération d'énergie en descente en montagne ? Merci encore !

Merci pour ton commentaire ! à ce jour, c'est 30 km d'autonomie en moyenne aussi bien en ville qu'en montagne. On perd beaucoup en montée, mais sur une descente suffisamment longue, j'ai pu reprendre facilement 1O-15 km minimum. En ville, les petites accélérations pompes également pas mal, mais elle roule super bien avec l'inertie. Du coup en moyenne 30-40 vraiment max peu importe l'environnement. Le froid n'a pas beaucoup d'impact sur l'autonomie sauf que du coup, dès le chauffage est en route... ça baisse beaucoup ! Tenue sur neige un peu moyenne due au poids par contre. Avec de bons pneus, pas de soucis, montée à Val Thorens sans chaine un jour de neige, avec des pneus neuf sans problème, mais s'ils sont moyens, c'est une vraie luge.

Hi Paul. In case you need to drive long distances in hybrid mode, what is the consumption?

Hi ! I think it would be interesting to do a real test on that, writing down the consumption within the same distances with a charged and empty battery. From what I perceived so far, I would say you save about 1 litre / 100 km with a full battery when you take the highway.

@@paulbrechu so I am asking this cause for holidays I start to drive in the morning till almost night, aprox. 1100 km. If I start to drive with full charge in hybrid mode, that will be an important indicator for me to buy or not. I assume in hybrid mode the electric is to support more up hills or where you need extra power.

It allows reducing the average consumption a little but using electricity during start, uphill and in traffic jams, for example. My long-term consumption is between 4.5 to 6 L depending on whether I drive in the city or on the highway. For daily driving, I use only electricity if charged. For long distances, I always try to charge it before I go :)

Thanks for the video! How many kilometres have you driven in those 5 years, and have you had any trouble? I have just bought an used 2018 version, and I'm going to pick it up in a few days time.

Thanks for the feedback! Today, it's 92K kms. There were not many troubles and most of them went through the guaranty like Dynaudio speakers started to produce poor-quality sound. They replaced the twitters, squeaking suspensions but never changed it as it's not often and not very annoying, the 12v battery died one day without reason. After that, it was standard maintenance :) I hope you'll enjoy your new GTE :)
