Hi Kelly! I got two mini Belles this year so that I could grow them in pots. To hold them up, I got some of those green metal supports. I let my hydrangeas tell me where they want to be in my garden. These two are definitely siblings. One wants to be our front in partial shade and the other wants be on my back porch stairs. Hello from Massachusetts. Have a great weekend. Lynn

I've bought 'interesting' drapery rods (at a charity shop - really cheap) and used them as stakes. Fancy ends/poles can be spray painted. Stakes can be pushed in at an angle with 2&3 crossing each other for support. Love your wrought iron thingies.

Thanks for the tip on pruning. I've been cutting them to the ground and then struggling in the summer to keep the large blooms off the neighboring ferns and hosta. Seeing as how they are grown more like a hedge, I will need to either keep my plant reduced to fit the space or consider a transplant to a more open location.

Here where I live in Sydney Australia we’ve had a dry spring and the Annabelle’s were coming along nicely, upright and tall and some flowers are starting to fully bloom After heavy rain last week they started to flop I had one bend from the top and almost snapped off as it had a very large flower head so now I stake and tie support just below the flower head.

Thank you for another great video! So, to use the old wood to support the new, I should just deadhead the Annabelle’s in winter or spring and do nothing else? Thank you so much for your help. ❤️

Just found your site. Can’t wait to read all about hydrangeas hoping my questions will find answers. Here is a big one. Last year, someone cut down my favorite 20’ hydrangea “tree” by accident😢😢. The stump was left in the ground , and to my surprise and utter delight, new shoots sprouted out everywhere. It is now almost three feet tall, perfectly round bush. The shoots are all flopping onto the ground under the weight of the flowers. I would love to shape it into the same tree look (that was previously on the lawn for forty years). I have no clue if this can be done or how to begin. Any thoughts?? Thank you so much.

Hello, kelly! Thanks for this video! Have you ever planted a hydrangea on a slope? Will it grow upwards, upright, after compensating for the slope? Or is it going to droop over down the incline and tip over if I don't assist it and growing upwards? It's not a huge incline. Maybe 35°

I've got a hedge of limelights that we planted 3 years ago. They are doing well, the stem structure is getting nice and strong. I've just noticed we are getting some white growth on the stems. Any idea what this could be and how to treat?

Other than deadheading, when is the best time to prune so the plant doesn't get too big?
@KellyLehman
@KellyLehman Год назад
Best time would be late winter , early spring for smooth hydrangeas like these Annabelle’s and Limelights . Too late to prune back the hydrangeas that come in on old wood like endless summer and Nikko. Next years flowers are already set in place on those old wood varieties .

Kelly,how are you? My hydrangeas got so out of control in height and width! Is there anyway I can cut them back so that will not happen again. Thank you.
@KellyLehman
@KellyLehman 9 месяцев назад
Hi there , I am fine . Thank you for asking . You can trim them back but know that if they are mop heads you may cut off some of next years flowers . If they are too large , this probably won’t matter . I would wait until winter to do this though so you don’t trigger a growth spurt from the pruning just before winter . The hydrangea May eventually grow back to the larger size but you can keep it in check by simply trimming that branches back that are too large in winter spring and summer 🌸🌸

Hi Serena , I bought them so long ago that I don’t know exactly but I think it was from a local garden center near me called Corner Copia . Look for incrediball hydrangeas from proven winners . They are the new and improved Annabelle’s with sturdier stems .
