HYDRAULIC LEAK ON TAKEOFF | United B777 Emergency Return at Sydney 

I've emailed liveATC and asked them to investigate these issues as I used to use their ATIS as a quick weather snapshot when i was in the city. It's now unusable. We did have some storms over christmas and that seems to be when these issues started on all frequencies, so my guess is some antennas have been moved in some way and the response i got was "We can't guarantee the quality of public channels". It isn't hard to email someone with a receiver and say "Hey, can you check your antenna?"

More like March, 2024 got beef but yeah its been a wicked bad month for United. First the 777 at SFO lost its tire, now this, ripperoni :(

Maybe they called a proper "mayday mayday mayday" instead of "uhm, we'd like to declare uhm an emergency", so ATC didn't have to ask to repeat

Amazing.. isn’t it? I remember reading in the book about the Challenger explosion that the seals expert for Thiokol (not the person that testified) was shunned by his Mormon community so badly that he committed suicide. Based on that, I think finding someone in a truck with a self-inflicted gunshot wound is entirely possible within the realm of possibility but highly doubtful. Boeing having the balls to say that their thoughts and prayers are with his family is just the same as them alluding that the overseas pilots of the 737 Max crashes were somehow at fault.

@@danman367 Sometimes parts just fail. Metal fatigue in a wheel, or a hose that developed a leak. Some of these things are impossible to detect until they happen. I would wait until a root cause is discovered before assigning blame.

United is one of those airlines that values skin color and/or sexual orientation over safety. They don't care about your qualifications as long as you check their "diversity" boxes.

The plane will tell them when it senses, low pressure or low quantity of fluid in the system.

Boeings have EICAS, engine indications and crew alerting system ….low H pressure would trigger an Eicas message and the appropriate checklist

@@SB-cz9vo My guess will be that the checklist for that specific hydraulic system (don't know which yet) did not allow them to operate ETOPS.

Nope. The United SFO to MEX hydraulic leak was airbus. It's a good example of coincidences and how our brains are keyed for pattern recognition but that can lead us astray. The tire issue and SFO to Mex were both 22 year old United planes that departed SFO and diverted to LAX. That's some coincidence -- but they likely have different causes, with tire likely being early part failure (so due to manufacturer of the wheel) vs the hydrolic failure is likely maintenance or early part failure also, which is probably not the same manufacturer of the wheel also. However, without the tire failure being so dramatic, or the earleir alaska door issue/and max issues in general, would these issues be as well covered by news sources? Per this channel, hydraulic failures aren't *that* unusual (vs a wheel falling off a plane bouncing onto a tesla is rather unique).

In none of the incidents so far were people hurt or killed. Just shows how redundant systems provides the ability to withstand these issues and still land safely.

This has nothing to do with Boeing. All of the United incidents over the past week have been maintenance issues with the airline (and one of them was an A320)

Because Boeing has a sizable number of airplanes in service along with Airbus. There arent many other option lol.

No one croaked. No one was injured. Airplanes deal with these kind of issues all of the time and are designed to withstand them for a safe landing.

Note to bigots: blaming "diversity" without any proof is hatred and not productive to fixing the actual issues, which generally stem from greed and mismanagement and not the low level workers just trying to live their lives.
