I’ve been getting asked can I do a full tutorial on how to make hydrophobic gym chalk and how to reform gym chalk for beginners. So here you go!✨
Instructions:
- Crush your gym chalk to turn it into powder, if you bought it already crushed, even better. 😀
- add water to your desired liking ( just remember the less water you add, the less time it takes to dry😀
- Mix the gym chalk powder and water together ( this creates a paste ).. if you need to add more water, you may😀
- Add a cap full of fabric softener ( this is what makes it hydrophobic , ADD THE fabric softener. You can add more fabric softener if you’d like, it honestly just depends on the mix/texture you’re going for. The more you add, the dustier it is, so try to wear a mask when crushing the results ( or you will be coughing, trust!😂 If you don’t want hydrophobic ( skip this step) no fabric softener is needed if you don’t want it hydrophobic.
- CHOOSE YOUR SHAPES! Grab your mold shapes of your choice and fill them with the paste you created
- any bowl or container is fine, but silicone mold are my GO-TO!
- A question I get asked frequently is “ how long do you dry and what do you use for drying?
My drying process:
I use a food dehydrator. You can find one on Amazon, also in local hunting stores, like bass pro shops, academy, etc. My first ever dehydrator was 50$ on amazon, second one was 44$ at academy, a small dehydrator but got the job done for just me😀. I dehydrate my white reforms on 75•c for 24 hours. If I add color, i dry them for 48 hours, color takes longer to dry.
Some people ask me “what if I don’t have a dehydrator?” If you don’t have a dehydrator you can air dry, sun dry, fan dry, oven dry them, etc. Before I had a dehydrator, I sun dried outside , DIRECTLY IN THE SUN! I added LESS water as possible! Oven drying took me about 8 hours( had my house really hot though) The key is to make sure the oven is open a little, ( that allows the reforms to breath some) I have only fan dried ONCE, took a week, never tried again. Overall the dehydrator method works wonders for me. They also have cheap ones that range from about $35-55$ at local academy stores.
Where can I buy gym chalk? Amazon,eBay,academy,dick sporting goods, sporting stores, china manufactures, Most of the time I purchase through manufactures for cheaper rates or amazon ( because they ship fast).

Where can i buy molds or containers? Containers can be purchased from dollar tree, dollar general, walmart, etc. Silicone molds can be purchased off amazon, walmart, michael stores, hobby lobby, any craft store really!
