Hopefully a quick question. I 3d printed a garden tower as I have solar and plenty of indoor space. I see videos all over of how to get started, but never a maintenance video or general routines. I currently change the water(2 gallons) every 3 weeks. ABC nutrient system on vegetive growth with multiple t5 lights surrounding the container(3d printed arms for mounting the lights). Should I be adding H2O2 routinely or doing anything other than checking the PH and Nutrients. The only reason I started swapping the water is due to the smell. This is my first gardening experience and strictly growing lettuce in this tower.
I see what you did 😂 I was mind blank for a second or two. H2O2 👌 The sugar cane grows from each node joint when planted like turmeric and ginger 🌱 Your plum tree is like a mini Hercules. Those wicking systems are off tap again. They are probably my favourite so far this season🍺🍺
Excited about the grow - ferment - cook chain of events! And hope you make an orchard of hydroponic plums. A mate gave me 20kg of plums a month ago, so after de-pitting, vacuum-sealing with pectic enzyme, freezing, thawing and pressing I had 13L of plum juice on my hands (not literally). I've got half of that with a couple of liters of hibiscus and cascara tea fermenting as wine now! Fermenting it hot (sous-vide water bath) with a kveik yeast that will give it really fruity esters. After stabilizing the dry wine I will freeze concentrate the rest of the juice for concentrated plum juice to add back into the wine. Really excited about it! Making ones own alcohol is such fun. Hoping for more of that kind of content. Cheers!
BIG DOG giving us all the big info. I have an infestation of aphids going on currently with my grow tent. It's so painful. Hope you can get yours under control!
After growingtoms for over 40yrs ,have had the russet problem for the first time 2 yes ago. What a battle this has been. I grow as organically as possible and very keen to learn what you are doing about them Love your videos keep up the good work many thanks Hoocho
Wow, it’s clear you are a smart guy, but creating the whole vertical structure of a very smart business from scratch and watching it happen in real time is truly inspiring.
Awesome update. Lots happening. The sugar cane interests me as I planted some ‘Badila’ / Badilla a few months back. It’s a heritage variety with an interesting history, much more ornamental and softer culm. Keep up the good work, love the grow bag RGG projects.
That Field of Dragons Is going to produce. Wish I could keep them outside year round, I d have concrete pillars too 😉for my DWC Dragon project I’m contemplating a vinyl 2x2 post trellis but 4 post at the corners possibly reinforced to the lower resv tote. My biggest fear is the trellis failing 😞 also going to try doing it like those Indian vids where it’s a mature cutting 24” long and start hitting them with bloom after a month of root growth. See if I get fruit with out a 36-48” tall growth ??
U have inspired me to build a wall with chicken coop wire so i can grow hydroponic in my living room. I have cats. My husband built a cat wall on the other side!!! It's pretty amazing. I'm gonna try using a tiny piece of unbleached cheese cloth instead of using the cotton balls. We have a kiddie pool set up with a splash of lettuce blends. I'm calling it the salad bar. Thanks for the inspiration!!?
Great video. I always learn a lot. I have also been experimentign with the cotton ball method and noticed some types of seeds dont do well in it, others do great. For what its worth, i sprout seeds in a mixture of water and H2O2 and notice that either way algae still forms in the trays over time. By the time the plant is larger they need a hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove algae. Because of this, I have moved back to coco coir since its more reliable for me.
Stephen from Potent Ponics said that if you trim your roots on the NFT that they will produce more essential oils, terpening, smells, & flavors. Like herbs & such. It causes them to think that there are bugs eating their Roots so they put off more essential oil to protect themselves. Just a tidbit for you. You should check out Steve and his dual zone aquaponics systems. Which could work for hydroponics as well.
A tip on potatoes, cut the potatoe to have 2 eyes if possible, let them dry a day after cutting the potato then plant. There is less of a chance for rotting if they are hardened off first.
So many wonderful ideas. So much frustration that I can't implement them yet. Only one more year (Please!) and I should, at the least, have a foundation & power where my house is going. THEN I can put some of these in place, even if the rest of the house isn't done yet. But the wait is a killer.
Have to try hydroponic Junipers and hops, the other option is jacking - freeze the mash the alcohol wont freeze at standard freezer temperatures (-18c or so we used to keep a bottle of Stoly permanently in the freezer for shots). Though jacking doesnt remove unwanted items unfortunately.
Nice 1 Mr Hoocho. Excellent update with lots of the systems working well. Death to the mites! Are you going for an air still or a traditional water cooled condensor version? Seem to remember reading somewhere that its ok long as you don`t sell it.
To keep possums away, I usually spray with Blood and Bone. So far they avoid anything with the smell around it. Apparently they don't like molasses either. I will be trying that at some stage - mixed with water in a spray bottle.
Hey Hooch, when I saw those trees with nutrient deficiency my first thought was Magnesium. I am not an expert or anything, but I had some plants that looked similar with the 'interveinal chlorosis' and I was able to bring them back with some epsom salt additions to my hydroponic nutrient. If it is not I would be interested in a video about how you diagnosed the issue, it took me a while to figure out what was wrong with my plants... Additionally I recently had some Huckleberry Cider, that flipped my lid, maybe try that with your plums!
I would actually say iron if not nitrogen, since magnesium deficiency shows chlorosis of older leaves inward out up to the newer ones, sucking the needed magnesium from old leaves to provide it for new growth 🤔
Great video. Greetings from Aruba. If I may ask, do you use a single water + nutrient solution source for all the plants in the green house and another for the other systems?
I have a question, what material is the water-absorbing wick you use in the hydroponic bag? Will it get moldy? Thank you so much for the great video you shared.
Hoocho if your running a sterile res you can go calcium hypoclorite aka pond enzymes an you might lose the algae problems but you cant use h2o2 as well as their incompatible. My version of solving mites problems is ultra high brix target an pray to the heavens above. other than that essential oils that work without harming the produce or environnent. IMO microbes, molasses, seaweed extract/seasol, and fish emulsion/eco aminogro. Running a germination heating mat under my 45L tote reservoir which has significantly seemed to increase fruit set before the outdoor season begins. Just need to get more started now. Your garden is looking epic man
All the sugarcane I’ve propagated has been done with the canes sideways since they’ll grow shoots out of the joints/nodes if it’s in contact with soil just like bamboo.
Hey @Hoocho, whatever happened to the wasabi? Haven't seen an update on it since forever. I put some in a home-made wicking system a year ago and it struggled last summer (getting eaten by pests (snails? slugs? caterpillars?) was the main issue I think), but seems to have survived the Winter and looks to be recovering. Currently figuring out where to relocate it to for this Summer, so experiences of others would be useful. But surprisingly few people out there are making videos about hydro wasabi!
i wonder if the cotton has regions that remain distant from roots where the water stays stagnant over time vs media that allows water to push itself around evenly throughout a porous structure.
Hey mate great to see the updates. Where do you source bulk coco locally in Brisbane? I've gone down your route of making diy planter bags with the packing plastic... Now it's time to fill the bastards, but don't want to have to buy 1 million coco bags at bunnings if possible.
Also would be keen as beans to see some distilling! I may or may not have a 3.5kW 65L boiler with a condenser on top in my garage 😉. Way more satisfying having a sip of some home made barrel aged whiskey!
almost all coco comes from srillanka or india... you can find pallets of compressed five kilo bricks of cococoir almost anywhere. two will fill a large wheelbarrow when wettened and expands.
@@dertythegrower yep the compressed coco bags are still around $30 each at bunnings, just wondering if hoocho has sussed out any places locally to get closer to wholesale prices
Nobody knows spidermites better than that herb grower 😅 You got the mites.. nice. Other options.. pfr97, met52, and other species of predator mites if those dont work but they usually do.
possibly magnesium or potassium over nitrogen as veins are dark green - but I always struggle with them also older leaves and younger leaves especially when at the same size.
So using h2o2 on the cotton won’t do much. It will sterilize it in the short term (and slightly harm any seeds or other organics that come into contact). What you need is something to colonize the cotton that is either beneficial or neutral to your roots. Nothing sterile exists for long in nature. It only creates a blank slate and the race begins for an organism to capitalize on the lack of competition.
You’re absolutely right. Any recommendations? I have a product called great white, which is a beneficial microrhizal fungi and bacteria inoculate. Perhaps…
@@Hoochothat sounds perfect as long as it tolerates complete saturation a NFT causes. I don’t really have a solution since I just tolerate algae for a few months until I harvest. But for longer term plants, I can see that becoming an issue. Keep us updated if that product works.
@@HoochoCheck out bacillus amyloliquefaciens as a beneficial bacteria to colonise the roots and grow media. It's sold as a product called hydroguard, maybe other brands as well but haven't looked into it.
Hoocho. I got patent on a new hydroponic pot way better than autopot!! I made it so you can do so much more and easier to use. I would love for you to try it!! Il send you some !!
Hi ,following you from the Caribbean, love your content and have learned an implemented a lot of your ideas. I am having a challenge with growing my parsley, tyme and other herbs in my system, they always seem to get nutrient burn, I have tried to adjusting 350ppm and same result, do you have any advice npk 7 11 27
Hello, I would like some important help from you. I would like you to turn on the Turkish translation of your videos in the subtitle option, thank you.
hahaha o you sweet summer child xoxo haha celery too mate, bok choy, lettuce, cabbage, leeks, there's heaps more but you get the idea man. Glad ya found out even if im given ya shit haha
