This video will show you how I germinate my lettuce seeds up until when they are ready for transplant. Part 1. Lettuce Seed Germination Part 2. Growbox and Transplanting (next upload)
1) Can skip the step of using coco coir? On day 2 directly transfer to sponge? 2) For DWC, after how many days can the babies be transferred to net cups and placed on floating raft?
Hi Lawrence, how are you? Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. With regards to your question. 1. Yes. That would actually be better if you're using horticultural foam the one with holes in the middle. For the DIY foam in the video, I find it easier to make a slit than a hole. Putting a day 2 seed in the slit does not work based on my one time experience. The growth is blocked by the foam. If you can make a hole like the one in the horticultural foam, It would be perfect. 2. 2weeks or when the true leave came out.
Hi DM Thankyou for your comment. I appreciate it. Yes! This process is too much of a hassle. Using horticultural foam or rockwool though quite expensive would be the best. ^^
Good day sir ,napakagandang impormasyon detalyado sana matulongan mo ako yan din ang plano ko pag uwr sa pinas sa Cabuyao lang ako sir. Maraming salamat
Hi Crisanto.
Hi floriel. Thankyou and sorry for the late reply.
Thanks a lot. Best tutorial I have ever seen 👏. However I have a couple of questions. 1. If EC is not in the desired range what should be done (add more nutrients or water to take it up or down?) 2. How to minimize growth of algae ( would placing the sponge with seedlings in net cups and covering the top with clay pellets help with bottom watering in a tray or directly running it in my hydrophobic set up which will also provide better oxygenation?!). Thanks. Ramesh from India
Hi Ramesh I hope you're doing well. Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. With regards to your questions.. 1. If EC is less than the desired range, you can add more nutrients. If you accidentally put a lot of nutsol (nutrient solution), you may introduce additional water to dilute it. 2. Algae form when sunlight hit the water. If you can avoid or at least minimize it, then it would result to lesser agae build-up.
Naalala ko dati naikwento mo na nanunuod ka lang ng mga videos sa youtube about this. Ngayon may sarili ka ng uploaded video. 😆 I will try this! Pag nakalipat na ko ng place soon. Napaka detailed nun video mo. Husay! Hahaha I saved it for future reference. Thanks.
Sir can I have your # pls? I am a senior citizen and I want hydroponics as libangan. Hindi naging maganda ang seedlings. Ang dami kong tanong. Thank you sir.
Wow! Very informative! Thank you for sharing👍 question, i started hydrophonics using kratky. I germinated my seeds in a soil less medium peat moss (is that the same as coco coir?) and waited for the true leaves to come out . After, I directly transplanted them to the hydrophonics box with all the prepared nutrients . Exposure to the sun is gradual 30 mins and slowly increasing. I cover it with black box during no sun exposure. Though I see growth some are slower like you said. Am I on the right direction handling my hydrophonics pechay?
Hi Carlos, Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. Peat moss and coco peat is not the same but both have good water retention. No need to cover them with a blackbox. :)
Hi Dante, I hope you're doing well. Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. For your question. 1. When sunlight hit the water/wet sponge, algae will be present. To totally get rid of it, you have to block that sunlight hitting the sponge. Having a little bit of algae is fine :) Hope I answered your question.
san nyo po nabili ung Ph and EC meter nyo? and HM po, if you don't mind me asking.. thanks po. thanks din for sharing this.. this is one of the most comprehensive yet very short video on how to germinate seeds.. maraming salamat po.
Nice.. Thanks for sharing this video.. It will really help especially those who wants to start planting lettuce at home.. Happy planting.. Happy growing.. More blessings to come😇💚
Hi Kei, I hope you're doing well. Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. With regards to your question. 1. Yes. That would actually be better if you're using horticultural foam the one with holes in the middle. For the DIY foam in the video, I find it easier to make a slit than a hole. From Day 2 onwards, do we have to spray the plain water everyday? Once or twice a day? Second question.. after feeding the seedling into the foam alongwith water (after mixing the nutrients liquid), do we have to cover the box ??
Hi Zack. I hope you're doing well. Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. A lot of things are needed to be considered to get the best results like the quality of seeds and proper temperature ^^
@@Zack-vt2ky Yup 9 months is a very long time. I'm happy that you're still into this. I hit the bottom and now I'm trying to start again. I Wish us all the best.
It's very useful information. I waiting the next level transplant process. You told no need ths pumb ? Can you give me your number I have some questions of my hydroponic
Hi! Thankyou and sorry for the late reply.
Hi Zoltar, sorry for the late reply. One is the quality of seeds you have. Seeds that are too old lower it's germination rate. And yes, most seeds germinate best under dark conditions.
Hi Chip. How are you? Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. To answer your question, Yes, we can apply the same principle to all leafy vege. Just take note of the optimal EC and pH of the specific vege being grown.
Thankyou. I tried before and it doesn't work well. An easier method is to grow the seedlings on the coco coir up until they are ready for transplant. They will have bigger roots and shall be easier to transplant. The introduction and maintenance of nutrient readings shall be the same process shown in the video up until they're ready for harvest. 3 days before harvest, we can also do "flushing", it is when we feed the lettuce with plain water without adding additional nutrients. This method will flush the nutrient solution in the plant's system which shock the plant and boost its growth, also minimizing the taste of bitternes in some bitter varieties.
Hi Jessie, thankyou and sorry for the late reply. Opo.
Hi Kirk, I hope you're doing well. Thankyou and sorry for the late reply. I bought my meter online, I believe it came from China if I'm not mistaken. ^^
Hi Téa! Thankyou for you comment. I have tried it once. I put the seed in the sponge's slit. But the seed had a hard time emerging as it grows. Maybe I placed it too deep or it dropped lower when I watered it. I think there won't be any problem if I used horticultural foam or rockwool since with those, there is designated slot for the seed.
@@rasubackyardfarming6205 I have hit/miss with rockwool and lettuce. When it works, it works great. But the holes are pretty deep at 1/2" which if the seeds aren't really fresh, seem to struggle with.
Hi Rosita. Thankyou for your comment.
