The Hymer Grand Canyon S Cross Over is a fantastic off road BEAST of a campervan. In our latest vlog we take a look round one and compare it to the standard Hymer Grand Canyon S. This brilliant larger campervan is well thought out, very well specified and great quality.
Come and take a look and see for yourself, could this be an option for you and tempt you - and are these EVEN BETTER than the Westfalia Sven Hedin?!
Thanks to Lowdham Leisureworld Nottingham who had these GREAT vans in stock, plus a whole load more too.
Keep a look out for our other new videos coming to the channel soon and a BIG thank you to all of our wonderful subscribers - we have been blown away by how many of you are now following what we are doing. We can’t wait to share more content with you.

So impressed that you have waited so long for your Sven. Think I'd have given up months ago.

I would have as well, I wanted to like the Sven however it's lack of storage and plain interior (like Grand California but not all white) make it too dull for me. And on top, there are much better vans out now (Eriba Car 600, Dethleffs Performance, Adria or even a Knaus if you wanna stick with the Crafter) . Personally I like the Free 600 by Hymer with a pop top or a Grand Canyon with just RWD. Hymer quality is top notch and they build stuff with service in mind and Mercedes chassis is quite good.

I can see your point of view. There are more options out there now than there were when we ordered the Sven, but similarly, we'd probably be waiting a good amount of time if we ordered something else now anyway. We really like the look of the new Eriba Car 600, but none of the alternatives have radiated heat/heated floor rather than blown air, which is a shame. Ours won't be far off now.

Sorry you're still waiting for your Sven, what a pain. Roxy looked very well behaved. The Hymers look great but very expensive. For the price of the Canyon S you would expect, 7 speed DSG auto, diesel heating, and a cork board in the shower. Not keen on the shower curtain either, imagine how long it will take for that to dry after use, and the risk of mould forming if not dried properly. But they both look good, thanks for show casing of these campervans, hope your Sven arrives soon ❤️🚐🐶🍾xx

Both good vehicles, is the future away from gas? The Crossover has a significant advantage with its electrical system & able to supply mains off grid. Whereas the S is limited to hook up for mains, gas for heating. In Europe there is plenty of gas outlets, but in UK it appears that gas is becoming less viable.

Hi Will it's Andy from York we have spoken before :) we have a T6 but I am planning to finish work some time this year and we fancy a 6m van as we want the fixed bed and the bathroom, we have narrowed it down to the Hymer Free 600 and the Sven we went to see these at Lowdhams and we liked the Hymer but the model we looked at is a 2024 and it had really cheap reading lights on a small track they were so flimsy they wouldn't last 5 minutes without snapping off! Also those blinds on the front screen and the two front doors are on a really flimsy rail and the ones on the front doors have a surround that is plastic and looks like a wind deflector and on closing the door I found myself using the plastic as a handle and again they would break so easily and the van didn't have that great grab handle on the front pillars. So yes a lovely van but the finish lets it down a bit and that fridge looks great but it is very small and the freezer is tiny on the model we looked at, I rang Wandahome and they think Westfalia are doing a few more Sven's this year so we would probably order one of those as we really want diesel heating and not gas like the Hymer has, the only worry is the wait time as I know yours is well overdue! I don't want a Fiat so our choice is limited, we don't want a pop top and the Hymer does have one so the Sven seems the perfect choice I just have to get my head around the price of these vans 🙄 Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the fit and finish on yours :)

I’ve viewed the Grand Canyon s and the crossover… i really didn’t rate the interior.. seemed dated and a little cheap in comparison to the Sven. The rest was epic

Hi Will and Sarah hope you don’t mind me asking. If you have heard anymore on your new camper. The one we have on order we were told it was built and in quality checking in Germany about the 12th December so may turn up during the Christmas break or by early to mid January. But it appears on asking the dealer that they have not paid for yet and it’s sent when they have paid for it not really getting any answers from the dealer but they are not coming back to us. Just wondered if you had been given anymore info on your van being sent from Germany yet or if they had told you if some problems were happening in Germany delaying release. Thank you Graeme Ps sorry to ask this I appreciate this is not what the channel is about but you appear to be very well informed.

We don't have ours yet and the latest update we have is that ours is at a status of 'in build / quality control' and it went into that status about a week before Christmas. They do have quite a long factory shutdown I understand and they only went back to work at the start of last week. I think what happens next is that Westfalia let the dealer know when the van is ready to be shipped, and then the dealer pays and arranges shipping (I think). This can then take 1-2 weeks and I think they try to ship 2-3 vans over at a time as it isn't economically viable otherwise. From what I've been told our van is in a batch of 6 vans being built (not all Sven) but they will all come over together so shouldn't be much of a hold up in shipping. I do feel for the dealers in the UK as they only get what information Westfalia give them and this is about as granular as it gets. I'm sure it will be here soon.

Hi thank you for the reply so it appears your van is in the same batch and similar point in production. I was not told about getting a number of units before sending . I had been told it was in quality control and then they would pay and it would be a couple of weeks in transit. So the extra info helps thank you for your help .

Some nice design touches in these and no doubt the Cross Over is a off road weapon, but such a real shame the interiors are so meh.....that wood veneer is grim IMHO, doesnt match the laminate floor finish, and why are people still putting gas in high spec vans these days? Shower with curtain looks impractical when you can have a proper wet room. They have flash graphics and look pretty stand out from the outside and then inside it gets all 80's caravan 🤮 Maybe its us but if we're spending that much £££ on a van it should be stylish and modern and not look like leftovers from a MFI clearance sale.... Hope the Sven is ready soon. Our CJL is ready next week and adventures start again soon!

What about little people like me who can't jump up into the bed? Wi hired a van last year and that was the worst complaint.

Yes can see that would be tricky. They do have little steps etc but even then, that could be a problem. Something like a Murvi Morello might be a good option

The CrossOver made for dreams with 10 days off grid in any terrain. Great to escape but with that wood veneer?

They look great. Like the idea of the diesel heating/water heating in the crossover. The thing that really puts me off is the use of dated brown interior in the bathroom etc. They’ve massively missed a trick in having a contemporary modern vehicle with an awful 1980s interior.

I know! We've gone past the point of being frustrated now, we just need to be patient and wait. The Westfalia factory shutdown over Christmas and New Year put things back a bit too. At this rate we'll be wanting the new registration plate for 1st March! At least it gives us more time to save up for some alloys/tyres in the meantime!
