It's a Walmart bike, can't expect it to perform up to par with an $1000 bike from a pro bike shop, I use it for riding to school and back everyday, going to work and going out and about. Pretty good for my uses.

I think the overall concern of videos like this is to prevent a rookie from getting one of these and eventually badly injured or even killed. Nonetheless, i recently got a 10year old McKenzie rusty bike, which is sold in germany by a walmart equivalent... It takes me.from A to B quite smoothly, even took a bit of trail like it was nothing, and simply performs great. So i appreciate the educational value of a video like this. Its the same with guitars... You can learn and even upgrade a cheap 100€ guitar and get decent stuff, but if you wanna go to the big leagues you cant avoid spending money.

I bought one and love it. Apparently I'm not a "serious" cyclist, I just live in Pinellas County Florida and we have some of best bike trails in the country. No mountains here, I just like the design and the suspension. The gears shift easily and don't jump and clank. I believe I got my money's worth!

This is actually an insanely underrated walmart bike imo. granted, it has its limitations but for casual riding around the neighborhood and whatnot, it will actually hold up, far better than say, a walmart roadmaster, for example. im a bike courier and used this shocker daily for roughly 6 months and put a shit load of miles on it. one of the biggest problems with these cheap bikes is the lack of grease these manufacturer uses when assembling. the hubs on the wheels broke down first, followed by the bottom bracket. i overhauled both and found close to zero grease. these types of bikes are especially great if you want to get into bike mechanics as problems will definitely arise with them and you can practice repairing them, which is the main reason why i bought it in the first place, before upgrading to something better.

I go on small trails with a little bit of hills (but not huge) and I can say I don’t trust it fully sometimes when going on jumps. but I have probably rode over 700 miles on it and I can say I have definitely got my money’s worth out of it the only problems I have found is that the handle bar grip is really small for your hands and the back wheel gets really worn down and the seat is not comfortable. The furthest I have ever rode at once was 27 miles and the only problem I found when doing that, was that the gears would sometimes not work properly. But I can definitely say it is a good bike especially for the money.

I do take issue with the fact that it's called a mountain bike yet is not suitable for even the most basic of trails. The people who are looking at this bike are not educated in the way of the bike. They are being mislead.

@@biggidousthethird2672 Because they're designed to *Look like* mountain bikes -- they're "mountain *style* " bikes, for people who just think mountain bikes look cool. I noticed the Roadmaster Granite Peak (also sold by Walmart) is being described as a "mountain-style" bike now; but it's probably not consistent in all their promos and literature.

I get these bikes for free all the time out of the trash. College students buy them, ride them for a year or two, and throw them away. My friend owned the Next version and I had a Schwinn hardtail, they really only could handle the road he lived on, but I do miss how simple throwing the bike in the back of my parents car and just riding on the street was.

My local walmart generally has alot of this model and the genesis 27.5,.....not much of anything else, a small bike section even for a walmart super center. I thought about testing one of these models myself(ummmm, yeah, if I was someone who had lots of money to spend willy nilly, but it would be fun to put it through its paces on street) for rough street only to see if they could handle a daily commuting or pre weight lifting sweat of a small bike ride warm up......like twenty minutes two miles per day for instance, to see if it would live up to rough street use,....maybe it would, one would think, though I suspect maybe shifters would go first,...BUT if there was a warranty, haha, then what would be the problem with warrantied failing shifters or derailer...Really, I would like to put at least fifty miles street use to be able to comment. I have so many bikes now, mostly older now, getting older, my giant hard tail is now obsolete due to 26" rims, and of course my old quality road bikes are now old, and I aint young like I was years ago, but am still riding some again. I did buy a mongoose el cheapo bike to test it, a ledge 2.1 steel frame full suspension,....will test the hell out of it on these streets for a warm up, but it takes over a week to get a mongoose to me,....I live on the west coast of Oregon, and it shipped from Savannah Georgia,....through walmart........that is how it will be for me on bikes shipped through walmart for testing for personal purposes,.....I'd like to get my hands on one of those genesis 27.5 or actually 29" genesis, but it seems like a wast of money I don't have to spare, but those are likely real good for rough street casual riding for older riders or those looking for riding less than ten miles per week for fitness. I mean, I am old, ...and so are alot of other folks out there, folks with weight problems or afraid of diabetes or need to improve their circulation, those on high blood pressure medicine, etc

I think it’s just u tbh, I’ve owned a Huffy highlander for 3 years now so it’s pretty worn out but my friend has owned this Hyper Shock since 7 years and it’s so good. On my bike I can’t even go 2 minutes without my knees being in excruciating pain and having to stop but on my friends hyper shocker, I was riding like a bullet. It’s a seriously underrated bike and I love it, I’m ditching my huffy bike and buying this one.

Crank the cassette, right handle, to 1. This makes it easier to go up hill but you'll be kicking air if you use it on flat areas or downhill.

Derailleur on mine and the gears are just wonky. Plus the chain gets locked up a lot.

I think this bike is terrible for the gear change on the handle bars and it feels like I have to petal hard to it to be able to go anywhere and it's not really fast at all kinda slow on the street

+Brant Warner Agreed. Check out my other video on the suspension travel. I'll have a video of it on an actual MTB trail coming later this weekend. The noises alone from this poor thing are enlightening. Recurring on-trail issues too!

LOL same page bro. No way in Hell I'm spending more than 150ish for a bike. I actually have a car, but our parking spaces are scarce in my complex, if you lose one you're parking wayyyy around the building or across the lot, & with 115 degree temps this time of year (& catalytic converter thefts), thats a no-go for me. Tired of losing my parking space just to run a quick errand, so hopefully this will be the remedy.

Hey do you know how to remove the crank shaft on these bikes?
@KevCentral

+Zack Laningham thanks for the question. I'm assuming you mean the crank arms and bottom bracket? If so, you can find quite a few good videos that give you step-by-step walkthroughs, as well as the tools required

These bikes a garbage and are more trouble than anything, but does anyone know how to stiffen-up that front suspension? Is the ARCH the biggest problem - being too weak? Can a brace be added or a reverse ARCH be added to stiffen it up?

I would like to add quick-release to this bike but I’m having difficulty removing the back-right nut(not familiar with the term) from the rear wheel. Is it possible to make this change to this particular bike?
@aaronr5841

My left nut was bigger than the right one. I can’t loosen it, so my wife put some lubricant on it and got busy working that thing.
