RHS's PC: Well, you actually can. RHS's Controller: And remember to connect me to the PC! RHS: Yes, I finally can! How bad my Mobile was! RHS's phone: Ugh...
Might be wrong but I think the reason why 77 Rings gives you a continue is because the number 7 is considered lucky here in the west. That’s why slot machines usually have 7’s on the slot reels. Getting three 7’s can be considered getting a jackpot.
RHS, creative Araya actually said in a post before that its 30fps to account for older phones and he also said that making the game 60fps would require him to rewrite the whole code 16:40
That sounds like an excuse. I understand the 30fps for older phones I suppose but it should have been made for 60fps in the first place. And then android phones get an option to pick 60fps or 30fps.
Redhotsonic: They made sonic 2 SMS into a completly diferent game, why!? *3 seconds later* Redhotsonic: They puy the hardest part of Sky High exactly as it is, Why!? you're hard to please xD
The new music doesn't sound like music originally designed for the Master System, but rather sounds like it was made with a Famitracker. Considering the sound chip in the SMS was also used in some DOS machines, (specifically on the Tandy 1000) it wouldn't have been too difficult to make music that sounds just like Master System music.
I appreciate what they were trying to do with the team mechanic, but I think it only really works when you're still allowed to have a main. Unfortunately, this remake instead forbids it.
the game (and the other master system remakes) is in 30 FPS because by default Game Maker assigns the frame rate of every "room" as 30. (horrible decision I know) thankfully that's no longer the case in the newer versions of the engine, but even then, they could've changed it
I remember playing this on the GG when I was about 8 years old... Only ever saw Sky High Zone once since the Underground boss was bloody impossible on the tiny screen - way too steep a learning curve for a Level 1 boss!
>The game is called Sonic 2 SMS Remake >Oil Ocean Zone and Hyper Sonic use NES remixes Why are people still mixing the 2 consoles up in 2021? Like I'm pretty sure the guy who did the Oil Ocean remix used here even does commissions for SMS remixes now. In all seriousness, I feel like the creator was more trying to make their own game than trying to improve Sonic 2 8-bit. Not only does it suffer the same crappy physics and half framerate from their Sonic 1 SMS remake but now we're at a point we're making the plot something completely different, adding Oil Ocean in for some reason, adding new stage gimmicks that didn't need to be there, and even making Green Hills Zone the final level (sounds like a Sonic Team move). Like what was stopping the author from making their own Sonic game considering the framework here is completely custom? It's one thing to make changes to improve the play experience or just as a next extra like the additional playable characters (though I think they could have unlockable than just having Shadow from the get go), it's another when you give Aqua Lake Zone a freezing gimmick for no reason. I won't call this bad as I've seen worse cases of creative liberties being shoved in (Sonic After the Sequel Omega being a prime example of it) but still I feel like the creator is just limiting themselves by remaking already existing games when they show signs that they're more than capable of making their own Sonic game even going as far as making their own framework for these remakes.
I agree with you i could type another paragraph but i'm just gonna copy my comment. The thing with those 8-bit Sonic remakes is they remove alot of stuff but add alot of stuff for compensation. I don't like that however, Super Sonic/Tails being here makes the game too easy. Sonic 2 was supposed to be a challenge, not a cake walk. Atleast here you don't get a giant ring on the start of the level (if you haven't 100% the save file that you're playing on) unlike the Sonic 1 remake. The removal of water bouncing makes Aqua Park act 1 less fun. Did i mention that the funny ramps which bring you to the end of the level in Sonic 1 that also exist in Sonic 2 don't exist? Yo where did Green Hills go?!!?!?! oh it got replaced by Time Hills which the second act is Sky Chase all over again (seriously why). This port is rather a easier version with both added stuff and removed stuff. Tails sometimes doesn't want to fly, and thats pretty annoying in Aqua lake act 1 at the end which you will probably lose rings to that. Also both the remakes remove the exploration aspect for the Emeralds, this is rather more of a thing for the "Hold right to win" people, hey atleast you can still explore for lives and Giant Rings. Hyper Sonic/Tails is just a reskin of Super forms with different music. Crystal Egg zone now has the Green Hills fight. While Sonic 1 also got a bit too far from it's original game, the bosses for the extra zones are actually from the genesis Sonic 1 itself, rather than different 8 bit games which is nice . The final fight of Sonic 2 used to be hard but the remake said no, here's your little S3K difficulty boss fight, sorry i meant the difficulty of a average Sonic Chaos boss fight. The boss of Time Hill is just a boss from Sonic Triple Trouble, expect it's way easier with super (as if it wasn't easy enough in STT with the infinite 1 ring). Sorry for the yap, but i just can't hold the hate for the stuff that it changes, adds and removes. I'm ok with you liking the remake, it's only my opinion. RHS is right, this is not Sonic 2 8-bit this is just a random fan game. Have a wonderfull day readers!
In the new update, if you use 16 bit mode in the music options, when Sonic and Tails turn hyper, the original Super music from Sonic 2 on the Genesis plays.
c'mon they made another remake and didn't fixed the bad camera, the camera only moves when sonic is on the very corner, just like in sonic 1 remake, it's so easy to fix, i got the engine on game maker studio and fixed in a few minutes, it kills the whole point of bigger screen better to see what is comming, because you still CAN'T SEE
I think the character switch mechanic would’ve worked a lot better if it were exclusively for finding new routes instead of forcing the player to do it every single time they need to do one specific thing
Lol well I mean... There are some cool ideas here, but the execution, physics & overall polish are not too good here. Certainly worse than the original for sure, specially in the boss battles. Still, a cool curiosity nonetheless. Will still probably enjoy the original over this which happens to be one of my favorite games on the GG/SMS. The only reason it's so hated is because it's difficult, which is a rather sad reason to hate on a game simply because you're not good enough to beat it. Hell, I was able to beat it even as a young kid back when the Game Gear first came out, and was even able to find all of the Chaos Emeralds on my own. Granted it took me quite a while and a lot of playing before I was able to find them all, as I simply could not figure out how to get the 2nd one for the longest time! I could see it in the sky but could never figure out how to get up there. Then one day I found that hidden spring cloud by sheer accident and Voila! Final Chaos Emerald found!
The most impressive thing about this for me was Oil Ocean. I was quite impressed w the spritework there. I wonder how closely that could be done on an actual SMS? I would have honestly liked to have seen this hack be made from the actual original code & be playable on a real GG or SMS! Now THAT would have been cool!
Honestly I just want proper sprites that maintain a consistent aspect ratio. Level tiles and custom characters like Tails have square pixels and look correct in "full" mode, but Sonic, Eggman's projectiles, rings, Chaos emeralds, etc have non-square pixels and only look correct in "stretched" or original mode. So no matter what you do, you get inconsistent aspect ratio. It's really aggravating for someone with OCD like me.
RHS I just have a little question for scientists reasons: Are you aware that a Red Sonic exists in the official Sonic games like Sonic colors and lost world?
Honestly, this is the main reason I've avoided these "remakes", they change too much stuff and I honestly wanted to experience these games in widescreen.

Hey redhotsonic, every character in duo have some special hability (shadow with metal ; double jump and fly whitouth getting hurt, amy and knucles: they have their same habilities as the clasics and mighty and ray: they had their mania abilities)
So ofor all the improvements the original 8but sonic 2 made over 8bit sonic 1, the remake went back to the sonic 1 8bit ring dropping behaviour so you can't pick up spilled rings. wtf
Can you use the cheats in sonic 2 sms remake level select:up up down down up down debug mode:down down down up up up all chaos emeralds:down down up up down up hyper sonic:up up up up down down pls do on your second channel
LOL they buchered the hell out of that final boss there. And nah, that is supposed to be the true end boss of Sonic 2 for GG/SMS that you only get once you beat Crystal Egg, but it's nothing at all like it is here. Guess they couldn't get the physics programmed right to make it work & came up with... Whatever the heck this is.
7:07 When you first released the video i wanted to download the app without watching and only using this for help not spoilers and THEN I watch and I made the mistake 2 times in thought that u have to jump on the cockroach I hated that bossfight.
For your next video,be shadow and metal sonic, because metal can't drown in that game and he players like tails, and shadow has an air dash instead of a peelout
Here me out, I don’t think you really need the original version of S2MSV because of how different this one is, I mean, it IS a remake Edit: I could actually just be really stupid
How did you download this? the only sonic 2 related thing on the download page is a remake of Genesis Sonic 2 with Master System art, not a remake of the Master System Version
While I think Sonic 1 SMS was pretty good, this misses the point of a remake. It has many technical issues and feels more like the creator wanted to 'fix' the game my riding it of its identity. Sky high was super hard originally, but here it's just boring
Cool! A remake of Sonic 2 Master System/Game Gear version! 16:9 aspect ratio, Switching between characters at any point (Sonic to Tails and Mighty to Ray) etc. Btw I am first but who cares about being first it’s the video that matters
Now the replies makes no sense as originally I just added first so the replies were sense until I edited my comment to add what I think about this remake
Thanks for playing the RHS and for demonstrating it. However, I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you on your feelings towards this game. Personally, I feel that this doesn't stray too far from the vanilla Sonic 2 SMS, it actually adds to it and improves it. I feel that the original Sonic 2 for the SMS/GG was lacking and a shadow of the brilliance that was the original Sonic SMS/GG. Personally, I enjoyed watching the new Oil Ocean Zone. As someone who HATES Oil Ocean Zone in almost all of its forms, I actually really enjoyed this iteration. Maybe it's just me, and I genuinely appreciate that we all have different views on things, but having grown up in an era such as the SMS/GG/MD/SNES etc, if the frame rate drops, it's not a biggie, the fact is that we are spoiled with regards to the graphics and framerate we get with today's console and PC games. To me, a remake is when you take the game and change the original and that's what this is, a remake and I feel that creator of this remake did a really good job. Yes, it can be a bit tedious to have to switch characters i.e. to do certain tasks/part of the level, but at the same time, it's a nice change from just having a second character on the screen who does nothing but get in the way at times. Again, I agree to disagree with some of your point in the review, but we all have different viewpoints. However, I enjoyed this video regardless of our differing view points and I look forward to your future videos! Keep up the good work! :) :) :)
I mean they clearly had to try & recreate the physics from the original, and they did an.... Ok job I guess. The bosses is where you really see things fall apart physics wise. The original & the way it plays is so so much better than ppl give it credit for. It's honestly spot on. But it's a challenging game, too much for some ppl to handle. That's not a good reason to say the game is bad tho.
Well to be honest here redhotsonic there is one game you have not played yet and should play indefinitely it is the best game ever it is highly suggested it is sonic.exe round 2 where you play as sonic 1 sonic sonic 2 sonic or either sonic 3 sonic so if you could play this I will try to become a sponsor.
