I am currently 21 weeks and had HG from about week 6 and ongoing. It was a complete nightmare I couldn’t wake up from. It was absolutely terrible landing me in the ER various times and I lost 26 pounds couldn’t even keep water down. No prescribed medication helped UNTIL I entered the second trimester and could take steroid hormones. Completed a 21 day treatment as a last resort and it actually worked! It allowed me to stop vomiting and I began to slowly eat and drink more fluids. My doctors let me know it has some increased risks but more so in the first trimester. Medication has never helped me but this changed my pregnancy journey. I still have occasional nausea and a strange relationship with food but nothing compared to how it was. I urge that if you are suffering with HG that you consult with your OBGYN about hormone steroids.

@lucymaty4545 do you mind me asking what medication helped relieve your vomiting I have suffered from HG as well but never seemed to have one that helped. Thank you

@@florfarias2539 absolutely! I went back to review my chart for the name of the medication since it was always referred to me by “steroids” or “steroid hormones.” The name is methylprednisolone 4mg and it was a 21 day treatment 4 doses a day and tapered down until completed. I still got some symptoms here and there but nothing compared to how it was. Hoping this can also work for you!

quick question: doesn't serum hcg peak ~9-12 weeks, instead of 6 weeks mentioned in the video?

As a nurse, I wonder why the use of IV dextrose fluids is not emphasized enough in mx of HG, esp without concurrent use of thiamine. The implications for this oversight has irreversible damage to the patient.

My wife is currently struggling with this, she is at 10 weeks. She vomits a couple of times a night and most of the day. We don't know what to do at this stage. We went to the emergency twice where she got fluids for a couple of hours and that's it. We come back home and start from scratch again. She was prescribed metacloprsmine but it doesn't really work.

Try Zofran 4mg and fluids to keep her up. My wife is on those meds but she is still going to the hospital on and off staying. You should really take care of herr

@@Zain_Adventures I am and will take care of her. Thanks. The Dr prescribed her Primperan (Métoclopramide hydrochloride anhydrous) she used that for a while, it worked only moderately. Right now, she doesn't use any medication as it is getting slightly better or i should say that she manages it better. Good luck to you and your wife

It is such a terrible situation that begins to take a toll on you physically, emotionally and psychologically. I remember how difficult it was for my husband to feel like there was nothing he could do and truth is I felt there was nothing he could do for me but be there for me. I would encourage she take Zofran to see if that works it’s a dissolvable medication to help with nausea. I was also prescribed promethazine to alleviate nausea and vomiting. The last resort for me after 3 trips to the ER and being admitted twice was steroid hormones-methylprednisolone 4mg and it was a 21 day treatment 4 doses a day and tapered down until completed. I still got some symptoms here and there but nothing compared to how it was. I had to wait to enter into the second trimester to be able to take this treatment as it can have negative effects on the baby more so in the first trimester. This treatment was the only thing that worked for me and from what my doctor shared it’s the last course of medication that can be prescribed for HG if none of the previous less invasive medications have not worked. It’s easier said than done but help your wife stay strong. It’s such a brutal journey that I never could have imagined. I could not see the light and became incredibly anxious and depressed. Repeated nausea and vomiting is torturous. I wish you guys all the best! There is light at the end of this dark tunnel!

Also… at this stage we become sensitive to smells. So many smells caused immediate vomiting even the smell of a simply cooked meal. HG is a nightmare!
