He probably decided you were weak because you couldn't bring yourself to kill him. He attacked you; he betrayed you. In his view, he deserved to die. By sparing him, you proved yourself weak.

I don't think he's supposed to say "I'm sorry, master" and afterwards "You're pathetic" it doesn't sound like creators specifically implemented double betrayal.
