Learn how to replace the thermostat in a 2.4l Hyundai Elantra 2004. Had a P0128 code because the thermostat was stuck open. Lehew Tech Webstore: www.amazon.com...
Do you know what the connector is just above the left screw of the housing? Mine broken when removing it and can't find what it is for..light grey on metal bracket if that helps more
I have watched other Elantra Thermostat videos. The location seems to be different on other models. I have a 2012 Touring Edition- that has proved to have some quirks with part variations. Even my brakes are different than standard Elantra. So confusing. I need to find mine before I can replace it. Cheers!
So, potentially dumb question, but what should I do if one of the studs holding the cover on breaks? I can't seem to find a single parts store selling them.
Josh Dill you’ll most likely need to find one at a pick and pull and remove the stud from another car... I wouldn’t usually suggest this but I found a set on a car that was in good shape and got lucky good luck!
I actually was able to find the part I needed from a Hyundai parts warehouse. They didn't make it easy, though. Even the dealership I went to didn't know how to get one. Thanks for the advice, though.
This particular config is in 2000-2006 models. I cant find any evidence of a 2.4l being released in an Elantra, they all had the 1.8 G4GB or 2.0 G4GC engine. Id like to add, Make sure to check your PCV valve as they age.
When I'm working on older cars I will often not drain the coolant so I dont run the risk of damaging the seal in the radiator drain. It will probably not give you issues though.
Turns out the aftermarket gasket comes in 2 parts one blue oval and one black circle [( black circle gasket goes in the housing)before the blue one and thermostate are on]
Yes, the engine will never reach proper operating temp resulting in poor fuel economy, increased cylinder wall wear, oil dilution with fuel and a check engine light for code P0128.
I have learned from experience that, in some cases, using the radiator drain plug aka petcock can cause it to leak afterwards which is not desirable. Customers do not appreciate approving one cooling system repair only to be told later that another cooling system component has failed as a result of the first repair. Feel free to perform your repairs in any way you please.
