One suggestion for Autocar..... Why don't you evaluate same branded cars conditions after 40000km, 80000 km... I mean follow up ....so that public can know the true greatness of a car, like engine quality, sound etc.... all cars are great when its new... but evaluate quality...Hope you can understand me... it will help public a lot.
A proud 1.8 TSI style plus Octavia owner. i liked the chuckle, reviewer had when he said Octavia is so much fun to drive with while summarising the review. i second that. everytime u take the wheel of Octavia you realise that u r driving a gem of a machine. and yes after sales service of Skoda is improving by leaps and bounds and together with a four year warranty , it gives much peace of mind. if money is not a deterrent i would suggest anyone to go for Octavia. No pseudo SUV or other D segment cars can match Octavia. Trust me.
no doubt toyota is known for its reliability, but skoda is the king now. I mean when i see this octavia, it feels like a small sedan from audi , the finishing and the build quailty is of German standard. i remember when i closed the door of old Fabia some years back, it felt heavy, strong and the closing sound was loud, not that tin sound some cars make. Skoda cars are amazing, Simply Clever.👌
skoda works under vw group... and vw is the king of cars... big brands like bmw and buggati work under vw... so no doubt that skoda is best.... the pure czech carmaket
People dont buy skoda because of their horrible after sales sercice in India. Its so pathetic that u will never even look at skoda car after you've experienced their horrible service
Skoda is definitely a better car....but when you bring the reliability and horrid aftersales of Skoda, it definitely makes more sense to put your hard earned money on the Elantra.
Having said that Skoda has a horrible after sales service. It is also around 3-4 lacs more. If you consider these two factors in I believe the Elantra is a clear winner.
Harsh Singhi its not about the price its about the quality and performance which skoda has made worth it... skoda comes in an elite segment and thats why its price is bit higher than other rivals...
If you think people buy executive sedans for performance (mainly) then you are kidding yourself. True European cars have better quality and more sophisticated features, but NOTHING matches the Asian rivals in reliability and cost-effectiveness. The Altis almost matches the Skoda top-end feature to feature! The most well-rounded car here.
Aditya C.R really, what were u having when writing this... 183hp engine with the 7 speed DSG, 8 Airbags, Bixenon lamps with AFS, sunroof, apple and Android auto compatible, bootspace etc etc
the problem with these review they never cover up the post ownership experience, Skoda has the worst service of the lot. Start including after sales service experience too, this would force the companies to provide better overall experience
Octavia is a clear winner. Even in C segment, rapid beats every other competitor hands down. You can not compare a DSG gearbox with any other simply because the thrill and excitement from this gearbox is superior. Skoda does a great job with interiors and tuning of the engine. Toyota cars are very reliable but so dated, especially their interiors. This is true across all their cars including the Camry. Only recently have they started focusing on bringing technology and premium interiors to their cars. I wish Skoda listens to all the negativity about the after sales and maintenance costs and genuinely attempt to resolve those.
Toyota Corolla and New Hyundai's Elantra are customer's favourite because they don't look at specs they too look at after sale service and Hyundai and Toyota are the competitors and they are meeting customer needs and wants.
correct all indian customer wants is after sales and resale value hence these toyota guys price their cars extremely high , yet they have good sales number and brilliant products like octavia get sidelined .
some one who pays 18L, looks at everything don't worry. The turbo charged petrol ofcourse will have an edge, nothing rocket science but go and check the service center the cost of turbo charger. The corolla is no slouch and it drives like a butter, its road handling even at speeds @ 150kmph is good as anything. In real world you won't be able to make a difference on 10 sec 0-100kmph.. and its not the car, its the driver who makes a lot of difference. there corolla's 10,000INR service comes @ 1Lakh kms unlike Skoda which starts from day one.
Saibal Dutta well as a matter of fact, Toyota and Skoda has almost the same service cost and the Toyota parts cost more than Skoda. I own both Altis and Laura.
Yes 2 cars with similar price should have similar spare parts cost .. but the need to repair and change a spare is the question. I too have a Corolla and it barely requires any repairs or spares except the usual
So happy u did petrol atomatic review very rare this days and the skoda takes the cake dont know y its so underrated any time wuld prefer than those costly suvs luxury fun to drive p.sunroof Hope u do petrol auto for mid size sedans too
Now after 7 years in 2024, Toyota Corolla has most resale value selling as low as 5 Lakh. And Elantra has retained most resale still commanding 7L +. Skoda although in same range, nobody is touching it due to reliability and high repair cost which comes after 7 years of ownership.
toyota is so much reliable that it is the best selling car in 2016,it is so much reliable, like a cockroach,u can not damage it's engine, that is all about corolla.may be it's features are not so much good, but it is one of the world's best.u should consider that, octivia is a great car but corolla is better
suv geo u said it yourself, it's just reliable and that's it. u want something that appeals to your heart ,go with the Octavia, poor service not withstanding 😀
yes,and corolla is that,is has character, like beetle of morris mini,it is reliable as well as a piece of history (since 1966- now),people love it with their heart all over the world
Good comparison.. But please talk a little bit about warranty, servicing costs and customer service of each brand and take that into your consideration while ranking cars. That would help your viewers make an informed decision..
A proud owner of a jetta (The last good one and not the common jetta available now which looks like every other VW). I can say it would have been a clear winner. Immense power and performance with a great road presence)
I bought an Elantra petrol recently. Performance is mediocre struggling to even overtake a Maruti Swift. Brakes are not inspiring. Diesel though is better, going by what some of my friends say.
There no comaprsion for octavia the power train handling and premium feel and the price wch every things comes at The fortuner costs 40 lkhs the suspension costs and maintainance cost can be covered 3-4 times
Corolla is a very good car ,reliable and no nonsense car though i feel the current generation newer models are overpriced and interior quality is not that good. I am driving a 2007 corolla automatic and interiors are of superior quality like leather dashboard and faux wood looks much premium ,it has still lot of juice left in it. Spare parts are on expensive side . Its not a car for racing enthusiast its meant for sedate driving and handling is very good on highways at speeds 100-120kmph.
Only one car can compete with Octavia is Honda Civic 1.5 turbo, but unfortunately, Honda has taken a minimalistic approach with India. Only bringing 15 years old 1.8 l NA of ONLY 138 BHP
Hyundai Elantra doesn't make a mark in the luxury sedan segment just because their rival has a dominant presence and a better brand name. And that's y they keep on upgrading it again and again.
It was a nice comparison. Got two question though 1. Since the starting of the video, u seemed pretty biased towards the elantra, why? 2. Why was the chevy cruze not included?
#Being Impractical 1)Because he recently did Elantra review and he knows everybit about it before this video. 2)Chevy cruze has been left out outdated since years and including it in and kicking it out at the first round would be senseless. Thats y its not included.
Don't forget the bias towards Skoda - his face lit up every time he talked about. Talk about Autocar's shittier-than-normal reviews (at least the Indian arm).
Arnav Goel had a VTEC city before and it was shoot interms of performance. But this Skoda Octavia 1.8TSI is really on another level. The way it accelerates it feels like it will destroy cars 2segments above even the power to weight ratio is 133bhp!!
Nice Review Team Autocar. However you should've brought the Chevy Cruze and VW Jetta to the party! It's important for all the kids to participate in their competition! It's after all their contest! :) Next time when you have these segment contests, please don't leave any kid out...
Eben Daniel in India GM is not updated they are seeing India as third world country, they are not giving updated version of cruze, we also have some ego, we don't care who ignore us
The both elantra and octavia Is better still corolla is the best seller in the segment why ??? Wht is the reason Its only because of the toyota badge ???
Whether its petrol or diesel octavia is best car in the segment. Outright performance is its main strength. Both engines are explosive. Build quality is top notch and the feel is very premium. And skoda is improving on their after sales support 😊
i have never purchased any car lower than Audi , bmw.. but if unfortunately i have to buy one out of these 3 cars , i will never buy elantra.. and he is true skoda offcourse is a clear winner..i will choose skoda..
vw group have best cars in every segment....if they give trust as toyota for aftersales not any bramd in india match vw group.....not they are showing some efforts hope they solve problems.
The Fluence doesn't sell anymore. Renault has relegated it to the horizon - although it is a very good car - it had too many drawback to compare them with these three behemoths!
