Hyundai i30 Apple Car Play: FIXED!!! Wireless disconnection issue solved back to wired

I finally figured out how to get the i30's Apple Car Play back to wired! Geez, that was a frustrating six months but FINALLY I FOUND IT!
So here we go. If your i30 keeps disconnecting/dropping out from the wireless Apple CarPlay, you can follow this sequence to revert back to a previous/different CPU variant and use wired AppleCar Play, which, for me, makes absolutely no difference to it being wireless.
In other news, Hyundai have apparently released a new update to the entertainment system which will fix the problem. So the next time you go into your dealership for a service (or beforehand if you're really keen), you'll receive a Spetember 2021 update (hopefully).
Anyway, this workaround should do until I get to my first 15,000km.

Sir… you are an absolute legend and a statue shall be erected in your honour… I’ve been pulling my hair out and banging my head against the wall with the “wireless CarPlay” for 2 years, Hyundai refuses to help on the issue and claims it’s fixed by a “software update” (or by paying $100s for “diagnostics”). Just tried this fix and it works PERFECTLY!! To hell with wireless, I’ll go wired all the way - I can’t tell you how many times wireless has crapped out on me during long drives, leaving me stranded with no GPS. Thank you once again, you are a gentleman and a scholar - cheers from another friend down under 🇦🇺

My MAN!!!! You have no idea how happy you have made me you absolute legend. The amount of money I’ve sunk into my i20 SE connect and the car play NOT working. The dealership shrugging their shoulders at me for 18 months. The amount of times I’ve lost my maps in a new city, phone dropping off in important calls, the sheer annoyance of my favours tunes dropping off. We bought a second hand electric Kona 2022 in France and everytime we went through a toll booth Carplay just disconnected and refused to reconnect. Hyundai said it was not possible to connect via cable... thank God we came across your video! I was determined to sell the car lol. I have just tried it on my US variant 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Blue with software version at launch (never felt need to update) and now the wired carplay works perfectly!. At first, I loved the idea of wireless carplay but the buggy connection is to the point of being deemed “unsafe” while driving. My car has the exact 4 digit codes as yours with the only difference being the wired carplay enables with “cpu config 1”. I could not be much happier with the change. Thank you!

absolute legend! had my i30 for 3 years now and the random carplay dropouts (even certain carparks or roads that would guarantee a dropout were driving me bonkers. ontop of that, every service i've had done so far they'd say 'we've updated the software' but the version number never changed. can confirm this worked for me on a 2021 i30

Absolute legend. The wireless carplay issue was driving me nuts. Hyundai no help at all. Service dept. just plays it down and don't pretend they haven't heard about the problem but wont admit it's a big problem. This worked for me also - first time.

Thank you VERY MUCH for this video! This worked on my 2022 Kona SEL here in the US. I struggled getting into "Engineering Mode", but I eventually got there and it worked. I was originally in CPU0 and swapped over to CPU1. FYI, when I was struggling to get into Engineering Mode, I read where the car needed to be on "FM" and set to volume "2". I did that and still had struggles, but got in on the 6th or 7th attempt, so I don't know if the "FM & Vol 2" helped or not. But thank you for the video as that is a key feature for my teenage daughter. Almost returned the vehicle bacause of that issue.

For Elantra Owners in US that it doesn't work for. I've found that the reset button, which I didn't notice before, that's on the dash left of the radio and obscured by the steering wheel a bit while driving, but once you know it's there you can use it. I use the end of my sunglasses to reset, but the times I do get the error that won't go away, you poke that little button and you're back up and running in 10 seconds or so. Message goes away, car reconnects and your good. This is a great work around to make it tolerable now. Not ideal, but better than nothing and having to wait till you turn off your car. And you can do while driving.

OH MAN. You just made my life SO MUCH BETTER. I use my 2022 Kona for work (I travel long distances, so GPS / Maps are very much needed) - wireless CarPlay works maybe 80% of the time, but when it doesn't work, it REALLY doesn't work, leaving me sitting in parking lots trying to delete and reconnect my phone a million times. Followed your instructions to a T, using the CPU config 4, and boom...wired CarPlay. Lifesaver. Thank you!!

Thanks your fix worked and took less than 5 minutes to do. Hyundai and their dealers told me on many occasions that the i30 could not work on cable. Maybe if they had told those who complained about the drop outs of this solution they would not be facing a class action court case. Further when asked about my new i30 by potential Hyundai buyers I would not have rubbished them (Hyundai) for not being able to fix this issue or at the least provide a temporary work around. Thanks again and you get my vote for the New CEO for Hyundai.

Just seems like simple customer service stuff to me, I am really baffled as to why they didn’t just do as you suggested, especially a company on the way up in Australia. Definitely am second guessing the reputation of Hyundai….

I tried to take it back to the dealership for the 3 day return policy, but they wouldn’t honor it. I was planning to sell my car and eat thousands of dollars. You have saved everything with this. I actually went through this video because of a slightly different issue: after updating to IOS 16, apple car play stopped working completely on wireless. I was able to make it work on elantra hybrid 2021. The cpu was on 4, changed to 1 and it now works like a charm.

Thank you so much my dear. I had 2022 Tucson 7 days ago in Turkey and media system only supports wireless apple carplay. My main problem is poor quality during phone calls. I can hear remote end very well but they can not hear me, there is gaps in my sound for remote end. Bluetooth works perfect for phone calls but apple carplay is awful for calls. This trick works on Kia also. I tried this on my 2021 Kia Cerato S in Australia. Tap patterns are the same. Also the codes are the same for Kia cars. For the Cerato S it’s default is config 0. Changed it to config 1 and now both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is wired and working fine.

Mine was fixed by them with the update had a service 2 days ago and forgot to tell them to not touch the multimedia and now it’s dropping out again so today I will be doing this fix for sure as it dropped out yesterday and I nearly side swiped another car due to it!

*edited .Thanks. Just did it on the Santa Fe Active. Option 2 allowed wired apple play. Not sure if you do lose any settings features on the infotainment display but resolution seems different ? Might need to switch back to confirm. You can only use the USB port next to the wireless charging spot. Wireless charging still works however battery % isn’t displayed.

I got so excited for this and I was sure it would work based on the comments with my 2021 Elantra in the USA, which seems to be almost the exact same infotainment unit. No luck. I tried all 31 CPU Variants, not a single one gave me a wired option. Sigh... at least the frequency of the issue has reduced somewhat

This worked perfectly for a Hyundai Elantra 2021 (some EU version of the software) and using the same codes (2400 and 1200). It was preset on CPU variant 0, then I set it to 1 and it worked.

Thanks for your help. I needed a different code than the one you used but I found one for a '23 Kona and I've had wired Car Play now for a few months. MUCH better. System went to older icons for the Sirius XM but who cares about that.

I have tried CPU Config 0 through 5 so far without success. FYI for others: 2023 Sonata Access code for Engineering mode is 3802 , Variant Coding is 1200

If you take it to a Hyundai dealer, they should be able to load the latest update for it to make it work wirelessly, I think a lot of people’s issues were solved with that 👍

Does anyone know what else of interest can be changed in Engineering Mode? How about enabling reading of speed road signs (cannot remember Hyundais four letter acronym for this feature)? I could imagine/hope that lower spec'ed models could have it enabled afterwards in software, as the camera for emergency collision breaking is default in all models of i30 as I know it.

I like hugs ☺ Mine only has the one USB so I can't experiment, but I would assume only one USB is connected to the entertainment unit.

I’m in the US and have a 2022 Hyundai Tucson. I have an iPhone XR and can’t even use wireless CarPlay because it cuts in and out so much. My wife has an iPhone 12 and has zero problems. I’m starting to believe it has to do with older iPhones. I havn’t tried this fox yet because then I would have to switch it back and forth for my when I use the car and my wife uses it. I am assuming this fox disables the wireless feature until you revert it back to the factory setting?

Well I posted yesterday but I guess it rejected cause of the link. Anyway. Hyundai released a radio update and it seems to have fixed the wireless carplay disconnect. I went by an area that always disconnects me, and it didn't even blip today. We will see how it holds up but so far so good. Since I can't post a link, just google Hyundai Radio Updates and you'll get to the site that has the updates Under the Notifications box on the left. Then find your Gen and go. I Have a 22 Elantra which can't use this work around so this is amazing to finally have working without having to reset it now. I still would rather use the wired carplay thou if it worked for Elantra's cause of the wireless "lag" that's present, but this will do.

@@VroomBroomZoom Any idea what may have caused my Bluelink icon to disappear and also the Bluelink button to no longer work? This seemed to happen after I made the recent firmware update that was available on Hyundai's website. I can't even get into the Bluelink settings menu to check the modem and IMEI settings. it is like the modem and LTE link is undetectable now!

As far as I’m aware, Hyundai stopped offering blue link here in Australia, but this definitely seems like a service question, especially after an update.

@@VroomBroomZoom I was able to find the problem. The “Telematics” setting in engineering mode was turned off. I assume this happened after the recent update.

Hi, i have a 2022 hyundai creta prime and it also uses bluelink and sos feature. My wireless apple carplay have the same issue and I planned on trying this (changing the config). Will this cause the bluelink feature to disappear ? Thank you in advance

If been struggling with CarPlay drop outs with my new i30 N-Line and this has fixed it for me. Sure, i have to plug in USB, but now most of the issues I had with Waze are gone.

So there is no effective update as of Thursday last week. I got an honest response from my local Hyundai dealer service at the 1500km first service. Hyundai are working with Apple on a solution & from the side I got seems they’re blaming Apple for the issue. I’m in Brisbane & the Southside service centre I saw were refreshingly upfront about it… might need this hack after all!

Thanks for the video, very helpful. Have you tested reverting the system back to wireless should Hyundai eventually release an update that rectifies the issue. Will the procedure be the same as in this video but just selecting the latest CONFIG # setting ?

G’day mate….just watched your video, I don’t know if my system may or may not work..but here go’s…I recently had my Hyundai Kona N 2022 serviced back in November 23 and my Apple carplay still will not connect. I plugged in the wire and try to connect but it’s a no go.😂 any ideas. Thanks

My experience was one or the other. You can go back to the original option
