Ive got something that no one has mentioned, only front door speakers have gotten bose speakers with their own plastic cabinet built in the door, the rear door speakers are identical to the one on the standard spec version and have no cabinet built around them, just the empty door wich is far to big for that kind of driver, first upgrade i’m gonna do is put some decent 17cm 2 way or 3 way speakers in there and isolate the door, hope this helps a little for surround sound

Well i've got one, and was dissapointed, took the door panels of and cross referenced the part number of the driver and was in the same on all models. Shame really, it also seems like they never even bothered to tune it for the cabin, the crossover points don't really make sense either, so does the output level of the subwoofer, most bass comes from the front door speakers... Basically the cheapest trimmed down level bose kit they could find if you ask me, just the front door units, sub and amp. All the rest is same as standard version :/

I’m not sure on the sub but the drivers in the doors are 17cm front and rear, i have yet to take the sub out, but i’ve seen pics online, sub is gonna be a 6’5 inch probably. Next i’m gonna order 2 front drivers and cabinets (just like the front doors, and see if i can make it fit) i want to order good set of 2 way pioneer units, but i’m afraid its gonna change the sound to much by mixing drivers, i don’t have acces to the dsp so :/

it's funny because the kona electric ( old model) with Infinity speakers sounds great, even my friend with the tesla model y was impressed

Interesting, we've reviewed the Kona Electric, but it had Krell speakers instead! Was decent, arguably on par with the Ioniq 5, but no match for the other vehicles mentioned in this review :)

I have to agree, although I lack the knowledge to define the issues, it seems to me that my P45 is lacking in bass especially in the rear of the car. For the premium audio option in the car it's very disappointing.

Thanks for review, I love music in my vehicle, all types S4 B&O has treated me very well. Already know what I have coming will not match as I am awaiting the Long Range RWD model in Canada w base stereo. Not spending any additional cash on speakers or an amp either . Remember the price of the vehicle in relation to other equivalent offerings, although feel for those who paid top dollar and a sweet sound system was not delivered. Now crank up some TOOL

I agree. I'm underwhelmed with the system. The JBL on my wife's e-Niro sounds better. Really glad I found you channel and these audio reviews. A key thing when I'm buying a car and completely overlooked by 99% of reviewers

Interesting and informative review. I listen to music almost all the time and will likely purchase this car. I would recommend you compare this vehicle to the Model Y not the Model 3, the two being hatchbacks. I say this as there is a big price difference at least here in Canada between the Y and i5. It’s not even close in terms of pricing. It’s not like comparing apple and oranges 🍊 but still… I say this being aware that the Model Y sound system Is probably even better. Hopping they improve the system in the next year or two. Although I do not think they will have any problems selling them all in any case. Thanks for this information!

I’ve got a P45, with the Bose system. I agree. Not the best. But it does get better. How many miles had your model done? I’ve found the system needs to “bed in” and has improved over a few months / thousand miles.

Haha, do you work at Bose? :D Indeed system burn-in is something to be mindful about, although, our model had 3,258 miles on the clock.

Can you show the trunk with the bose? Because I heard that it has a smaller trunk because of bose.

I own the same car and unfortunately completely agree. Found the system very underwhelming, especially after having tried a Tesla Model 3 LR. It’s true that it does improve a bit after being broken in, but it’s still behind the competition. It should have had tweeters at ear height in the front as well as tweeters for rear seat passengers. Not a good look for Bose.

I was in the EV6 yesterday and both my girlfriend and I realized the sound system is kind of mediocre - good to know I'm not missing out picking EV6 over Ioniq, at least. It's especially a shame because the GT-Line fully spec'd is like $2000 shy of a similar spec Polestar, which has a very good sound system, maybe as good as Tesla's.

This is about the 10th video I've seen on the infotainment system and not a single one shows what the screen looks like while a song is playing. How big are the letters on the screen? Does it show the album art via bluetooth or only when plugged in?

Ioniq 5 LTD w/Bose system. On a recent road trip, I discovered something bizarre. The SiriusXM radio in the car sounds muffled with a smaller soundstage than listening to the SiriusXM app on my iPhone with an Ottocast wireless CarPlay adapter. How can this be? I would expect the opposite. As soon as I switched to CarPlay audio, everything sounded better: presence, frequency response (finally I could hear the high hats on the drums), soundstage (like hitting a "wide" button on a boombox). Am I tripping or what? This effect is most noticeable with modern full-spectrum music like AltNation 36 or Lithium 34, but it also can be heard on vintage stuff like Classic Vinyl 26 and Deep Tracks 27. Pretty easy to set up an A-B comparison.

Are you comparing radio vs DAB audio? If so, it's no surprise to learn that your internet-based radio is streamed at a higher bandwidth over your radio signal.

@@TotallyEV I'm comparing SiriusXM satellite radio OTA to the same signal from their iOS app. I don't know if the SiriusXM satellite signal conforms to DAB standards, but DAB is supposed to be better than FM. In any case, the built-in SiriusXM radio doesn't sound as good as the app.

When we talk about ‘Bose’ system in this car, are we simply implying the speakers and subwoofer? Can we improve the audio just by upgrading these components or is the audio quality defined by the infotainment system which we can do nothing about?

As is the case with any non third-party audio system in vehicles - one only has the ability to adjust settings via the infotainment system.

This review was okay to me. In Australia you cannot have it too lound anyway without being stopped by a cop and possible fine. We don't have those thousands of dollars car audio system here. You cannot use it on the roads.

Good question, the Tesla still comes out on top - despite not having the same low-end extension, it's (Tesla) still the better system out of the two!

Pleasure! Well, the Model 3 and Polestar 2 are around the same price of the AWD model on review here, so EV lovers can still get class-leading sound from those vehicles; but yes, none of these vehicles come cheap!

I'm not an audiophile, so don't care that much. But what bugs me the most is that I'm now stuck with a sub-woofer that is taking many litres from the trunk in the least logical part of the under floor compartment. I mean, Kia were able to hide the sub woofer completely in the EV6, and I've not seen this kind of poor integration in any other EV. So freaking stupid design. Just like the aerodynamics. Giving us annoying door handles (don't get the automatic handles in any version in Holland), and a wiper less rear window, but still only achieve 0.29 drag coefficient. I've had it for two months, and it's a pretty decent car. But these issues annoy me to no end, because they do impact real everyday use. Having a Bose logo somewhere does not improve my life at all...

I'm not sure what you mean - the subwoofer in the EV6 is in exactly the same spot I think? Lift up the trunk liner, and it's under a snap-in plastic cover in that well?
