I picked up mine about 3 months ago and hadn’t checked any of these things. Luckily, none have been an issue for me. One thing I would have liked to have been told was that the included home charger has different settings for different charging speeds. I only found this out about a month ago from watching a video on youtube. Previous to that, the extremely slow home-charging was frustrating. When I contacted my sales person, she said she hadn’t known about that herself, and thanked me for letting her know.
Ahh that's awesome, glad to hear that yours has been smooth sailing charging aside! I was actually confused seeing people mentioning there was a button on the actual charger that would change the charging speed and realized my charger/cable looked different. Turns out we in the US are getting a completely different one vs those in Europe. So I agree with you, charging speed with the Hyundai provided charging cable definitely should have made my list of things to check!
@@dennisnella9128 I didn't know it came with levels. Anyway, I've exchanged it with the Ford 32amp charger (it got 110v and 240v adapter) when I sold the mach-e GT.
All rotating equipment has a resonance frequency of vi rbration. You’ll hear it during startup on steam turbines, motors, or jet engines. Could be gear whine. Could be inverter whine. Steam turbines have a resonance through which it is desirable to pass through quickly during startup. Spectrum analyzer on your phone may show something. Great videos.
Thanks Patrick, I've definitely heard some opinions about possible inverter whine as well. I'm not that familiar with the more mechanical aspects which is probably why I lean toward the opinion of some kind of frequency tied to the rotations like you mentioned. The good news is for me it's a non issue but I've had someone else ask me about it and they said it was unbearable for them, to the point that they wanted to return their car. Just curious, I know the sound isn't all that clear, but were you able to pick it out in the driving clip?

Picking up a new car should be a joyous event. I didn’t check anything except for marks on the body paintwork (none), and the salesman set up the bluelink account for me. When I drove away they said to call them if I had any issues, and the salesman called me a few days later to make sure I was happy with everything. Driving at 65-70mph I find the road noise (rumble) is loud enough to drown anything out. My heating had a burnt toast smell the first few times I used it. Obviously happy owners don’t post comments repeatedly on forums. So there is s danger a few unhappy owners are perceived as a larger group than reality.
Thanks Chris I could not agree more that pickup day should be joyous and exciting, and hope that's still the case even when people check for these things. My greatest fear is hearing what happened to another viewer who left me some comments. They had said that motor whine was so bad that they are considering selling the car. If they had known to test drive at highway speeds that would have saved them the trouble of buying the car and then having to possibly sell. Glad to hear you aren't noticing it in your car as I'm in the same situation, it's not really noticeable to me and doesn't bother me at all. Sounds like you got a decent salesman as I've heard many didn't do a thing except handover the keys and walkaway. Also agree, things I've mentioned are not rampant across the ioniq 5 and most buyers will likely not come across these issues. But hopefully this helps them identify those issues asap so they can make an informed decision. I may have to reinforce how much I like my Ioniq 5 in my videos since I've done a good bit of discussion over issues/dislikes over the past 2 months because the truth is I love it :)
@@CarsJubilee I have some annoyances. The lack of rear wiper mainly. It was dry the day I test drove the i5. The sat-nav is clunky. I have luckily avoided all the other issues some people are having (dead 12v battery, whining motor etc).
one important item I think my dealership should have told me is I qualify for free two years -30 minute charging sessions from Electrify America. I had to do research to find out this information after purchasing my IONIC 5. I don't know if this common for other IONIC 5 owners.
Wow that's kind of ridiculous, they are the ones that are supposed to provide you with the enrollment code like I mentioned in this video. Good thing you did your own research! I'll add that to the description, hopefully people catch the part of the enrollment code that I mention in the video and that gets them on the right path. I completely forgot that people may not be aware of the free 2 year plan!
@@CarsJubilee there is positive that I wanted to point with my dealership- They did offer me a great deal trade-in for my 2018. I would have not moved forward with the purchase of the IONIC 5 without the great trade-in offer.
For motor whine, I heard it after taking out the under-trunk padding for cleaning. It has noise dampening foam. It might be that it isn't seated correctly if you hear whining. With it fully removed, I could hear the whine very easily even at 25 MPH, so it wouldn't be surprising if with it only a little bit improperly seated it's harder to hear except in a specific range.

Great video. I am one of many waiting for a limited RWD. If supply is super tight and I get to the point where I have a vehicle in front of me with no markup or add-ons, I don’t know if I would pass on it for any of the reasons that you covered, as long as the issue could be fixed by the dealer. I guess it would largely depend on whether the dealer said that I would retain my spot in line and get the next one that came in, versus having to go to the back of the line.
Thanks! Definitely a unicorn there but I have heard from a few owners so I know they exist hah. Besides the motor whine everything else is fixable, heater/ac seems to be about 3-4 weeks fix factoring in parts here in the US. I saw others waiting months but can't remember if they were US based. So as long as you don't hear the motor whine or don't find it bothersome then I'd probably just buy it too. But these seem to be rare issues so hopefully your car is good to go right off the lot!
You're welcome! Were you able to get the free charging account activated with the last 8 digits of your engine code? The dealers should be helping with this step, I've heard some owners that they don't even tell you about the 2 years of free charging.
I test drove 2 EV6 back to back and the second one had high pitched whine at low speed 20-35mph, then it lessened/went away at faster speed. My wife could hear it too. I am approaching 50 and my wife over 50 so we are not young people to hear really high pitched noise so the noise should be very annoying for whoever that bought that car. I also test drove Ioniq 5 SE model AWD and that one was so far quietest one. My Ioniq 5 Limited AWD is supposed to be arriving at my dealer on May 20th 2022, hopefully it won't have annoying noise.
whoa, that's really helpful info. I haven't heard others mention the motor whine at lower speeds. Do you remember if the drive modes were on the same settings/were both ev6s AWD? Hoping your Limited arrives without any of these issues!
@@CarsJubilee Yes, forgot to reply to this. I did get Ioniq 5 limited and there is no high pitched whine from motor that I heard from that second EV6 thankfully. Though VESS is bothering me.

I found this video because ive been googling what to do about vehicle vibration noise. My whole car especially steering wheel and centre console, vibrate, especially 30mph and above to 70mph. Makes me so stressed, cant hold the wheel it hurts my hands. I have driven 70 miles, i hope it is tire flattening and will fix soon but you said it took you 40 miles
@CarsJubilee i got my wheel alignments checked and he said they were all 35-55g out of line, noemal is 0-5g. So super out of alignment. Got it re aligned and i think the vibration has reduced but is still there. Car has been driven 170 miles now
Yes absolutely right, heater fix according to some current owners is somewhere around a month if you are lucky so hopefully most people don't find any of these issues at pickup!

I'm not an acoustic specialist but did some noise testing during my university years in Switzerland and I can tell you that acoustic is a very difficult subject. Hearing is due to an organe in your head, made up of membrane tissue, tiny bones and moving liquids that agitate micro nerve fibers. Can you imagine what is happening in your ear when air moves? You know as a fact, that everyone is different and so his hearing organe. I don't even want to get into details otherwise I would not be able to end this paragraph. Good luck in your quest.
Thanks and great point about everyone having different hearing! I'm thinking that's the case with why some people are hearing motor whine and others are not. Otherwise, it's a manufacturing defect. In either scenario, hopefully Hyundai can come up with a way to block that frequency out.

I wonder how that pants would look like and if people will still want to buy it and if it can be done economically and if the design would still be desirable. Just my thought. From my work experience, I can say that you will never be able to produce anything that 100% of the customers will like. You will always have a distribution curve.

Got mine on Saturday, driven 500 mile already due to the road trip involved to collect it. - 60 mph whine, I heard it once but never again and I'm very sensitive to background noises. - Vibration, none, dealer set my tyres pressure correctly and I don't appear to have had the temp flatting issues. Some issues I've noticed that I'm researching now: - HUD, awful alignment on the vehicle follow marker, depth-mismatch is annoying to my eyes, Hyundai don't appear to be taking into account the drivers eye height or position when placing this marker - 360 view parking, bad alignment between side cameras and the front/rear camera. Camera projection is outright wrong and doesn't match with the front/rear camera projections which align properly and the side exposure is also not matched. I work with AR glasses and camera projections so this is especially irritating to me since I can see the technical issues.
Congrats on the new car! And really glad to hear that you're not hearing the motor whine or feeling the vibrations as those have been the 2 most common complaints I've heard. That's really interesting about the HUD as I haven't noticed much or the camera system's projections but like you said this is kind of your expertise so that probably explains why I'm not noticing major issues. They may need to hire you to give them some feedback! Hope you are enjoying the car otherwise!
@@CarsJubilee I tried moving my chair as low as possible and only having a small vertical adjustment to the HUD, and having myself at a more comfort height with a larger adjustment to the HUD vertical and it was poor in both configurations. The AR adjustment menu doesn't seem to align well for me, I'll need to get someone to park in front of me so i can experiment more with the settings while a follow marker is visible. It's awkward/dangerous to change it while on the road. But I do suspect that I have a "can't unsee the issues" problem stemming from my career that most consumers of the HUD and camera system are unlikely to notice. It's like seeing an IPS display after using OLED, if you didn't have that better reference point to compare with you'd be unlikely to realize just how bad the glow and lack of true black are on IPS. I have cursed eyeballs 😭
@@devlin1991 Haha I think you are right about the 'can't unsee' part. I've definitely had that happen when car shopping in general and cross shopping some cars. Once you find the one you like, it's hard to unsee how much better you think it is. So I totally get it and I wish they had more vertical adjustment to the HUD. Can't really speak to the follow marker, I may not really know where it needs to be. But I can say the actual lane centering and adaptive cruise work great!
For me personally not even close. I don't hear the whine under normal driving conditions. I need to be on really smooth roads with music off and even then it's barely there. If we had typical engine noise I'd have no chance of hearing motor whine as the engine noise is much louder. Maybe like I mentioned it may vary from ear to ear or car to car.
Sure I'll take a picture and post in the community tab on the channel later. But it's more space than I've experienced in a 2012 Honda CR-V, 2015 BMW X5, 2015 Volvo XC60 and 2016 Volvo XC90 which is a 3 row SUV.

No problem! I should have a break to pop out in the next hour or so. I think you'll definitely get more front seat room in the ioniq 5 based on photos I just checked for the i3. The Ioniq 5 2nd row also has a ridiculous amount of recline and that pulls the car seat even farther back so I think the ioniq 5 is pretty much as good as it's going to get unless you go with a minivan, in my opinion.
Serious question - re: motor whine. this is an "issue" for which you have to create a specific test in order to detect. who drives in complete silence? this sounds like a non issue.
Hey Peter, some owners have reported hearing it as a piercing sound that's extremely audible and unbearable. Many owners like myself have reported only hearing it in the quietest conditions possible while driving around 65mph. There's a lot of varying thoughts on what it is, but I feel for the owners who find it ear piercing and wish they had known to test drive at higher speeds before buying. It's a non issue for most people but I'm sure you don't want to be the one that didn't know to check for it and then finds out on the drive home that it's unbearable :) that's why I think it's important. Most test drives don't involve going up to freeway speeds unless you let the sales staff know.
I haven't had it happen with the ioniq5 since I drive it everyday, so once it got some miles off the dealer lot it was fine. But for all the other cars I've ever owned, if the car sat for a few weeks then guaranteed the next time I drove it would feel and sound like I had flat tires for about 10-15 minutes of driving and then they'd gradually return to normal. For example going on a 2-3 week vacation and then coming back or in my case I often had a 3rd car which meant I only drove it occasionally. Flat spotting is pretty normal, side walls are soft so that ride quality can be decent. Super stiff sidewall might prevent flat spotting but then your ride quality is going to suffer with a really hard and harsh ride.
Ah that's probably the road noise then, that section of freeway unfortunatley wasn't the smoothest but it was the best I could do with time constraints. On the plus side that means you aren't hearing the motor whine and this would probably be a non issue for you =) I'm hoping there might be some people that can hear it super clearly just like a previous commenter in another video said he could hear his own car's motor whine to the point that he kind of regretted the purchase. The whole goal is to make sure people are aware that they should check for it at the dealership and not end up finding out later that it really bothers them.
Haha that's good that you don't hear anything! I have to concentrate pretty hard, plus I noticed I can't hear it if I play the clip on my phone. I do hear if if play it on my laptop though.
I'm not sure if it is poor QC or engineering but I'd say that 1st gen products will typically experience more issues pretty much across all brands. Maybe Lexus will have less, who knows haha will have to wait for the 1st gen owners there to report back once it's released. The Lexus EV does look really nice and Lexus definitely has a pretty bulletproof reputation so if that is high on your list I think the Lexus would make for an excellent choice.
