Summer time, my Ioniq regularly hovers around 100-110Wh/km in 100-110 km/h driving conditions. Winter is varying greatly depending on road conditions, but between 150-170Wh/km. With normal heating enabled at -12 C.

Perceiving of noise level is not only about intensity, but also about frequency. So maybe Ioniq is measurably noisier, but it filters out the uncomfortable frequencies, which is why it is subjectively less noisy than what the numbers say.

Nice job collecting and organizing all that data. Ioniq looks like a really nice EV. Wish they were producing them in larger quantity. I can't wait for you to get your hands on a Model 3 and subject it to your usual battery of tests. In summer the RWD with 18" wheels is very efficient, while AWD and larger wheels both reduce efficiency noticeably. But winter means different tires, lots of energy used keeping you warm, and schmutz on the roads.

Thanks for demonstration in winter conditions. Heatpump is fine, also in my gen 1 Leaf, but you don't have to forget that the efficiency of the HP is decreased the lower the temperature outside is. So the Leaf switches to ptc heater lower than 0 deg C because it will make no sense with hp then. Anyway, in a land with a good charging infrastructure, like Norway, you rather can decide for 28kw/h car. Higher capacity nowadays means heavier EV s yet.

Good vídeo. My Ioniq did 49000km. My portuguese numbers would be 110 to 140Wh/km at 90km/h (93km/h), with 140 meaning a big storm, and 155 to 190Wh/km at 120km/h, with 190 being in winter and winter here meaning some 2 degrees C (and Ioniqs sold here don't have heat pump, and neither do the korean ones). So, not being able to do 200km at 90km/h here is science fiction.
@Pervypriest
@Pervypriest 4 года назад
What really is impressive with the Ioniq is the range, given its battery size. If you convert 28kwh into gasoline, the Ioniq has a 3.2l gas tank since 1 liter of gas is 8.9kwh. This is insane...

Just made a 200km run with 36kWh e-Golf on motorway at 120km/h on cruise control all the way. Similar consumption figures at -0.5ºC to +1ºC condition with some rain and light headwind. So far, from previous runs at the same speed, I can guess that headwind has more negative effect than outside temperature (considering your battery is already warm)

Have you gotten around to retest the Nissan Leaf in summer? I can't find an update since your comparison with the Ionic last winter. Given the Leaf's disappointing performance last winter compared to the Ionic, I would have expected a thorough retest for it to redeem itself. I would be interested in an update since I am currently comparing the two (Leaf and Ionic) to see which one to buy.

Hello Bjørn, After watching this video and seeing that the 2 best EVs in sound measuring have the same tires, I wonder, could it be the most important factor ? You're getting quite an influencer to me when speaking about EVs, so I'd be very interested (if you have time), to test a single EV, BUT, with as most different tires as possible, partnering with tire manufacturers. Each brand gets you their best tires in terms of silence, and I'm sure that you'll find some followers around you with the same wheels interested in getting free tires if they let you use their wheels on the test car (can be Optimus Prime). Test portion doesn't have to be huge, as long as it's the same for each tires and have some diverse speed sections. You could try braking distance too while you're at it, because hard tires can do less noise, but be catastrophic in terms of braking distance :) Love your videos, I don't have an EV and probably won't be able to afford one until several years, but I love EVs and like that your tests are pretty unusual compared to others so I'm a several months follower now :D
