Good video. Super detailed. Thanks for sharing. May I suggest you make more diagnosis videos. What led to to know the timing was off? Like scanner reading, maybe scope captures, etc. Again, thanks for sharing ur knowledge.

Thanks for your comment. There is a separate diagnostic video for this vehicle. The reason for replacement was an extreme chain rattle.

Aaargh! I didn't follow instructions. Installed new chain, did not rotate 4 times, exhaust cam code. Removed, re assembled, but as rotate, exhaust phaser seems to snap (unload spring tension), chain gets slack until turn a bit more. Bad phaser? Checked pin, seemed ok. Help!

Printable Bolt position (with torque) would have been helpful Belt="hardest part" but little / least time explaining 😱🥵 My "tricks" advice Aftermarket belt too short, don't bother Belt diagram please (got from Orielly's) Lock right tensioner, remove right belt for extra swing Compress left tensioner in vice, zip tie , install last

Nice video. So, no need to remove the oil pan, is that correct? It seems like the fit is so close you will smear the RTV of that section off the pan when sliding the TC cover back on.

No need to remove the pan. It is a tight fit but there is enough room. Put rtv in the corner of the isn't and block 👍

@@ValleyMobileAutomotive I was at my friend's house over the holiday weekend, he has a 2013 Sonata that has already had the engine replaced under warranty. Now that engine is making timing chain noise at approx. 100k miles. About how long did it take you to do this, can it be done in one day by someone with pretty good DIY experience?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive 2 месяца назад
@@JohnWhite-ll7ek Book time is 7hrs. So technically it can be done in a day. But I would plan for two just in case 👍

@@ValleyMobileAutomotive I also noticed there is a difference between your motor and what my friend may have which is another chain for the oil pump. Would you change just the one chain or both when doing this?

Question: if timing chain tensioner and VVT gears operate by oil pressure, would it not stand to reason that chain will be loose when engine is not running? Installed new chain, guides, tensioner, getting exhaust cam retarded code. Removal of valve cover, chain can be manipulated to be "loose"
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive 4 месяца назад
To a degree. Without oil pressure the VVT sprocket should be locked to the cam so if the sprocket moves the cam should move with it. Once oil pressure is applied the sprocket and cam can move independently from each other. The tensioner should rachet tight and not back off very much. A spring inside gives it the initial tension then the ratchet holds it there. The oil pressure will provide pressure to push the tensioner out a little more and provide hydraulic "cushioning" so the ratchet mechanism doesn't fail. That's how I understand it anyway. One sign of a failed tensioner ratchet is a chain rattle on start up then goes away once oil pressure pumps it up.

@@ValleyMobileAutomotive Thank you for the resi. I am waiting on new solinoid. Removed, cleaned, tested (get "click"). Reinstalled, small clatter on startup, ran smooth and quiet. Shut down, restarted, making noise again, exhaust cam over retarded code again😱. Noise goes away at 1500 (ish, no tach). I am afraid phaser might have dowel position problem. 2016 Hyundai Sonata hybrid Engine was run low on oil, spun one rod bearing (emery cloth polished to 3000 grit, shimmed .010 to .003 ran, good pattern). Disassembled to find 2 failing main bearings (not spun), replaced. Replaced timing chain, guides, tensioner, wish I had replaced phasers. How long did it take ya to fix it? and what was the error codes?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive

Book time is about 7 hours. No codes, It had timing chain noise from a failed tensioner. The tensioner failed from engine metal in the oil. In the end this got a new engine from Hyundai.

Hi again I don't have any noise with my chain the problem is that my car start to buck and jerk only when it worms-up fully . it does it on any speed low or high 2nd 3rd 4th 5th all ... its something related to timing , I changed all coils still doing the same , it was waste of money...I don't know if I have to change the VVT solenoid or sensor ? I don't know where to start from any suggestion ? thank you for the video

Pull valve cover (simple), inspect chain for tightness, AT TDC, insect timing marks

This engine was ultimately replaced by hyundai right, was it due to the connector rod bearing issue?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive 3 месяца назад
Looking back I believe that was the ultimate failure. I also think bearing debris clogged some oil passages as well. I'm glad that Hyundai is taking care of their customers.

I have a feeling mine is starting to go as well, it’s also experiencing the oil consumption… how do people get Hyundai to replace the engine? Or did the customer have to come out of pocket for the new motor?
@ValleyMobileAutomotive
@ValleyMobileAutomotive 3 месяца назад
@@allmotorvtec Contact the nearest Hyundai dealer and set up an appointment. They will need to do a diagnostic on it and send the information to the manufacturer. If the claim is accepted you will not need to pay for the new engine 👍

What about crankshaft marks? Where it must be. On video you show only chain marks.

Time index 22:12. There are 3 colored links on the chain. Each link matches one mark on each gear. The cam gears are at 12 o'clock and the crank gear is at 3 o'clock. Hopefully that's what you're looking for 🙂
