Great video, I have a question, please I have a 2018 Hyundai Tucson the alert message says (Transmission protection reduce speed) I can't accelerate more
Hello mate…is it possible to still drive my 2017 ioniq with only one clutch mode working which is economy mode and no more sport mode? I have replaced only the engine clutch actuator but not the dual clutch actuator yet. I don’t mind economy driving at all if possible. Thanks for your blog on this type of repair.
Ugh! I bought a used 2016 Tucson a couple years ago and I'm only now discovering what this transmission is really about. I had no idea about the dual clutch. I thought it had a regular automatic. Had I known about this I would never have bought it.

For the most part when we replaced or when i replaced the clutch i dont see any damages on those components you mention, unless theres a catastrophic failure on clutch part and yeah recommend to replace it
Great job Sir and excelent video. D'ont you have a video of Tucson CRDi 2.0 model 2006 manual transmision clutch replacement? Or would you mind to tell me how to disconnect hydraulic circuit and how to prevent to loose the fluid ? Thanks a lot.
Hi , im not familiar with that tucson model, but any other car with manual transmission you drain the manual transmission fluid. And for the clutch fluid, if its external you can just put the whole slave cylinder assy to the side,if its internal slave cylinder i guess you have no choice that some fluid will come out. I hope that helps thank you
I have a question what’s that tool you used the one you mount it to transmission before removing the transmission DCT acutor ? I need help do I need that tool ?
What was the clutch replacement used in this video.? This is exactly what I have to replace on my Hyundai Tucson 2018 Value 1.6. I am trying to buy a replace double clutch in the market, could you recommend what serial number would fit my car better ? Also, I see many different types and prices including OEMs and Generic ones, would you recommend which one should I go for ? thanks
In this video i use the part from the dealer, im not familiar with the generic or aftermarket. With this type of repair i would suggest you go to your nearest dealer and order the part by your VIN. Hope that helps.
On tucson models the only DCT equipped the one with 1.6 turbo engine. For elantra same thing, and for veloster usually it will show in the shifter knob area if its DCT or not. Hope that helps
I have the same type of car. I tend to drive it like a manual. When I'm reaching a stop I drop it into neutral. Same on stop and go traffic on highway. Would this be ok driving or it doesn't matter. Aslo when in neutral is the car fully out of gear and no clutch riding or it doesn't matter?
Oh no, so sorry the tools are from hyundai, what i did before is use puller 3 jaw after taking out the snap rings, and when i put the clutch back it i use a big socket that fits on the input shaft and hammer it
When measuring rods should I pull them out as much as it comes when taking measurement because they have some play. If i pull them out as far as possible it measures longer, when measuring in "relaxed" state the rod measures less, which one should I go by, measurment when pulling rod or measurement when rod is relaxed state? Please help
I usually pull them put not too crazy but just enough then i measure them coz its like if the actuator is installed in the transmission the rods are pulled by the forks so thats why i pulled them out when measuring. Hope that helps.
Great! I am going to have my DC pack replaced probably next week at dealership. It is second DC pack to be replaced during 4 years (current milage: 47k km). First one was replaced because of the vibrations on low speed (bulletin) - so I got revised part which fixed the vibrations issue and it last only 26k km! I am getting second revision of the part now, but still wondering what makes this thing to wear out so quick... I am not an aggressive driver and I think it should last at least for 150-200k km. Do you see lots of Tucson's coming for clutch replacement? What is the average milage?
It really depends on the drivers driving habits, if the driver is always on the stop and go traffic usually it tends to fail sooner compare to the driver driving on hi way traffic.
@@hyundaitech 60% hwy driving in my case; I never creep in the traffic - I have lots of experience with manual gearbox, so I understand how DCT works. Based on test they performed it shows 80% health for clutch #1 and 60% for #2. The problem is that it slips under the load - when going uphill. 26k km on the clutch pack is way to low! I like this car but I am not sure if I can keep it when warranty is over - if manual transmission was available in Canada-that would be my choice!
I know, sadly that's how it goes, some cars I change less than 10k with it. I guess that's why Hyundai doesn't have option for DCT on the newer Tucson.
Hey man, great work! I have 2016 Tuscon DCT, I have two issues. First when the car is idling in the morning I can hear some rumbling sound from the transmission, once I move the car for like 5 min it is gone. The other one, it shudders a lot on 1st gear, went to the dealer and they told me one clutch is at 50%, another is 44%, but the car shifts goods most of the time, should I spend the money to replace the clutch, would that fix the issue?
For the rumbling ossue im.not sure about that, but for the 1st gear vibration or shakes most likely thats clutch. But of you are not bothered by it you can still be okay. But if you want that gone and yeah you have to replace the clutch. Hope that helps
@@hyundaitech Ok thank you for your help but i have another question if the car is in constant traffic for 30K km how long can the Dual Clutch last? Will it last more than it did before?
@@engmohamedragb8583 hi there, it should last since its the new improve part. But on this systems i treat it as if manual transmission so now it really depends on the driving habit of the driver. I hope that helps
Great video! I'm having the vibration issues on my 2018 Elantra GT Sport just out of warranty. Hyundai is willing to cover the cost for the clutch pack and snap ring but I'm responsible for the labour and fluid which will cost approx. $1,200 + tax. Do you suggest replacing the DCT or will I be okay as long as I adjust my driving habits? My car has approx 105,000 kms. Any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated🙂
Is it excessive vibration? You mean by vibration like from a stop? When it start to go from 1st to 2nd gear? But other than that is it shifting normally? And lastly how much labor hours are they qouting you? 10 hour job? Coz 1200 just for labor i think thats too high. Hope that helps
@@hyundaitech The vibration is not too excessive and it doesn't happen often. Yes it's when rolling from a stop. My car is automatic and other than that it's shifting normally. Fluid $96.80 + tax Labour - 8 hours @$139.00 per hour = $1,112 + tax , Total $1208.80 + tax
Ahh i never had elantra dct replacement, in my opinion its just the tucson has those problemaybe because of the weight of the vehicle compare to elantra, i maybe mistaken. But its not excessive not all the time, i would save the money. But if you have extra budget since you have out of warranty atleast the shop is covering the parts. But 8 hours labor for me too high, for me max for that is 7 thats a stretch already, if i do tucson customer pay will charge 6 hours and thats for me decent in my opinion. Hope that helps
@@hyundaitech yes this helps alot. Thank you! Keep up the great work with the videos. Do you have your own shop in Toronto? If so, I'd like to send you some business.
Great video! 👍 Is it necessary to remove the sub-frame because it is an AWD model? Would it be easier to unbolt the transfer case? One of the things I loved about working on Hyundai is that I never had to remove the sub-frame! (None AWD, None DCT). Last question, when you're pressing the clutches back into the input shaft, how do you know the depth? Does it just bottom out? Or do you just go deep enough for the snap ring to fit? Thanks!!!!!
Hi eric feli, thanks for the comment. When i do transmission for me its easier to remove subframe since theres more space when i line up the dowel pins from then engine. Unless i know that theres some components from the subframe that are seize or stuck thats the time i leave the subframe and just work my way around it. For the dct installation , i line up the clutch part to the starter housing and i know i have enough space for the snap ring ( sorry its hard to explain) im gonna be doing another dct maybe next week then i will post a follow up video. Or what you can do is you can put a marker on the top of the clutch to the transmission case before you remove the whole assy then you can just line up your marking when you install the clutch. I hope that helps
@@hyundaitech Yes, I completely understand, thanks for your response! I as thinking of running a straight edge across the bell housing, prior to removal, and then taking some measurements with a micrometer for depth. Or maybe measuring depth from the edge of the input shaft to the edge of the outer clutch face. Thanks again!
Great video I called the dealer to ask them if there was anything special I need to do this job and they said no.. where do you get these tools from to installing the clutch and setting the adjustment.
Tools or special fixtures were supplied by hyundai. But before i was doing everything manual, its just gonna take a while especially installing the new clutch but if you have the special tools thats great. And i think i made a short video on adjusting the rods with verinier caliper. Hope that helps

Depends, if it drives great and no complain no replacement. If yoy are talking about the fluid, we recommend 60-80k km/4-5 years, and again it depend on how you drive the vehicle. Hope that helps
Hi there, do you think is normal that on first start in the morning (after overnight) DCT shudder (jerks) ONLY for this first movement, after everything is perfectly fine, no shudder, no vibrations when changing gears up nor down... Also when going in reverse and after fully released throttle there is loud clunky noise... I was in service, judder test was performed but everything is fine 😮 they assume maybe rust, maybe moisture, maybe oil ??? Rust ok, moisture ok, but where from oil?? And what about that noise in reverse... New Tucson 1.6 DCT, 25k km
Slight judder is normal for any dct transmission, its like driving a manual and have to play around the clutch. For the clunking noise when reverse could be little bit loose on the drivehaft axle nut?
I don't think that sound comes from the wheels, but from the area of the gearbox... as if the DMF is overstressed and suddenly released, there's such a knock, sound... do they even have a DMF?
What i know the new santa fe turbo with smarstream egine has the wet dct. The rest of the models has still the dry dct as of now. And for sure it will last, for sure they made some improvements. And in my experience the elantra with dct has really fewer issues or none at all, thats why i like those models. Hope that helps
If you understand that a dual clutch transmission is a manual transmission with a computer attached you can adjust your driving habits to a degree. One of the things I figured out is these vehicles come with a 30 second Hill hold function. This is essentially slipping the clutch which causes somewhere and can cause a lot of heat. Minimize your creep to close the gaps between you and the car ahead if they just moved six inches don't move 6 chest. Every time you let off the break and the car moves you end up with that 30 second hill hold slipping the clutch. To be clear I am not a mechanic I have done a lot of work on my own cars but that doesn't make me a mechanic. That makes me gifted amateur. What I have spent over 35 years doing is working with all kinds of computer systems. From the big ones you used to see with in the movies with the blinking flashing lights and the tape drive spinning to ones you hold in your hand. I understand how programmers think I also understand how programming logic works within a system. Free tip Saturday when you're gassing up your vehicle or fueling, when the handle clicks off stop right there just stop. If you overfill the tank you'll destroy your charcoal canister assuming you have one depending on where you live. Not really expensive but not too cheap. Squeezing another cup or two of gas into your tank isn't going to do anything for you. Take care!
Do you have any experience with the Sonata N-Line? I am having overheating issues and higher oil temp issues. After some research, it seems to be pointing to a faulty ITMS valve? Any opinions?
Hey boss do you know what generic type of transmission fluid that I can use on my 2018 Hyundai Tucson value 1.6 litre with turbo 4 cylinder?I went to the dealer to check for the atf but it was so expensive. Thanks in advance.
As per the service information it just say API GL-4 SAE 70W, so in my opinion any brand thats meets with that specification is okay to use. I hope that helps.
Does the fix work? I just dropped off my Tucson 2017 limited at the dealer, it is jumpy, especially coming out of a stop, going in a drive through or parking in a driveway.
Yeah if the car is experiencing heavy shaking from a stop then moving forward, its mostly likely the dual clutch. But whoever works the car should confirm first the issue.. and if its dual clutc it should fix the problem
I have a 2018 Limited and it’s done this since I bought it. It’s still under warranty the 100k miles or 10 years. So I am assuming I should take it in??
How durable do you feel the dcts are? I’ve got a 19 Veloster turbo dct and I’ve been quite on top of the maintenance, changed fluid twice in the 53k miles. Treating it like the manual trans it is. Just worried about the clutch discs wearing out. Hoping it breaks before the warranty expires but after seeing how the trans is 6k used it’s a little worrisome 😅
In my opinion the dcts on the veloster, and elantra are pretty solid,i think 1 only did one for the veloster coz the car wont move. Hahahaha the most common problem is the tucson model, i dont know why maybe because the weight of the vehicle. Im not sure. Hope that helps.
@@hyundaitech thanks good to hear from a Hyundai tech. I’m a Nissan tech and the only dct we have is the gtr but don’t see them at my dealership. Some like 40 k km, what i see it depends on their driving habits, if you are driving a lot of stop and go traffic, and yeah that clutch will need to be service soon.
its not programming, its more on calibration, since its a new clutch, the computer needs to know the position of the actuator. but i tried sometimes without doing the DCT learning function and still good. unless you are replacing the DCT actuator and yeah you need to calibrate. and make you sure if you do the clutch replacement that the DCT actuator are adjusted to its proper distance. hope that helps.
I have a coolant leak at the water temperature control assembly and it’s leaking towards the back of the transmission and into the opening at the top/rear of the transmission where the dual clutch packs are….maybe that’s why I’ve been noticing the transmission slipping and acting weird recently.
Full screen video would be so much better! Get a decent camera dude! BTW What caused the premature failure of the clutches? Bad driving? Why are they not all failing at this low mileage?

I would think possibly some damage could occur. If the computer doesn't know the point at which contact is made with the clutch to engage and disengage it could try to move the Pistons for lack of a better word too far. Essentially these are manual transmissions controlled by a computer. They don't have tactile since I've touched that you and I have so that we can feel when we're pushing the clutch and when it disengages or when it's starting to engage. I would think it's a critical step. Just my shade tree mechanic opinion. I will bow to the expert as to the validness of my opinion.
Depends on driving conditions, some 24k they start to show some symptoms. Some like 80k. It really depends, if you are mainly hi way driving it will last long, but if you are on a stop and go traffic frequently the life will be less in my opinion
