I really hope other people see this post and learn from it. Saying "I don't know what else to do with my political science degree" is NOT a good reason to go to law school. Saying "I want to be like Elle Woods in the movie "Legally Blonde" is NOT a good reason to go to law school. Saying "I want to help people" or "I'm good at arguing" or "I'm smart but can't do math". . .NONE of those things are good reasons to go to law school. The job market for JD's is grossly, profoundly, insanely flooded. There are ten law school in Pennsylvania, 8 law schools in Virigina, 6 law schools in the tiny District of Columbia--realistically there might, just possibly, be enough jobs for the graduates of ONE law school each year in PA/VA/DC. So instead of 24 law schools in three states (I know technically DC isn't a state, but still) 3 law schools in 3 states would make sense. Law schools are selling a product and getting rich from gullible people who honestly think practicing law is like an episode of "Suits". They are laughing at their own students, laughing all the way to the bank.

Yep. It’s a business

Yes, exactly. It is a business, and it caters to a lot of very gullible people. Look, if someone got a worthless degree in Philosophy, or Political Science, and whatever, and they find themselves working in a low-paying dead end job they could have gotten without ever setting foot on a college campus--an outcome that is very common these days--ANOTHER USELESS DEGREE IS NOT THE ANSWER. If your bachelor's degree landed you a job at Domino's, your law degree will get you the same thing. There are no easy answers in life. @@echoingamy

It's a terrible business. Many mid and even above-median law schools gleefully trumpet the theme "Some of our graduates get well paying jobs at large prestigious law firms" and only after the gullible mark, the student-loan-conduit is enrolled does he or she learn that "some of our graduates" mean these firms won't even interview you for a summer job unless you're in the top ten percent of the class, and preferably on Law Review as well. If I opened a store selling big-screen TV's, and it turned out that 90 percent of them didn't work, and I told the police/prosecutor/judge, "Well, 10 percent of the TV's I sell work really well, too bad about the other 90 percent" I would possibly go to jail for fraud. If a restaurant sold expensive meals, and 90 percent of them looked and tasted awful, it would swiftly go out of business. Law scool are CONNING PEOPLE, MISLEADING THEM AND OUTRIGHT LYING TO APPLICANTS. Don't be a sucker. Don't fall for The Law School Scam.@@echoingamy
