@@neongenesis8499 They typically classify these as unboxings. So they did do some minor testing and tried it out, but it's not a full fledged review and doesn't have the level of care/quality put into it as a mainline LTT video.
@@neongenesis8499 I'm fairly sure that it is no SOP (Standard operating Procedure) to test things like battery life, performance, etc. as part of an unboxing. That way they DONT have to rely on Mfg. specs, allowing for better info to be given to the consumer. If this was a full review, they would have tested more games, game streaming, etc. : )

Which is also why you would address them as "Your Honor". So if you can, you should also dress as though you care about being there
To be fair where it’s due: The right stick is more of a Genshin Impact problem than Ayaneo’s. It doesn’t offer controller compatibility on Android - yes, it is available on iOS and iPadOS - and every other controller with over the app triggers is either a miss or barely a hit afaik.
Yep. I play HSR and now ZZZ on a Retroid Pocket 4. Genshin right stick button mapping is horrendous. HSR is workable (but still bad). Only ZZZ is good because it offers Android controller support from the get go
Neither it works well on MarioKart Tour. To properly move kart left and right and be able to manually drift, you need to bind it in a way it uses both sticks: one to move left or right, the other to start and make drift wider or shorter... at least it works 😭
@@duongnhdn ZZZ does have it (thank the dev team) but HSR on Android does not have official controller support. I have heard of some controllers working, but I play on a Retroid Pocket 4 and that's definitely not recognized (neither was my backbone before that but idk if that's changed)
"This game has controller support" Only on Apple, Playstation, and PC. They have not put out controller support for Android or released the game on Switch that they said they would do back in 2020.
@@Bender-official Switch technical specs are so low. I wouldn't. Buy Ayn Odin 2 or something to play on emulation, play android games and also pc games with xbox cloud and Geforce now.
For the price point, there seems to be too many compromises and oversights. It feels like there are better options in the market offering a more balanced handheld gaming experience.
They don’t make much money on their devices since they don’t have a game store to get cuts from so they need to keep releasing new models much more frequently
Genshin Impact doesn't actually support controllers on Android, so the issues with the right stick isn't AYANEO's fault in that case, it's just Genshin being bad on Android.
My Retroid Pocket 4 Pro has a binding to make the right stick scroll infinitely in whatever direction smoothly, so in Genshin I can make the right stick work just like the game does on PlayStation. Not sure if Ayaneo's software doesn't have that or if they couldn't figure it out for the video
while apple has builtin support for controller since the first released and many whalers supppport this game and didnt even think of adding a already prebuilt feature on unity game engine XD
The problem is the button mapping. Other systems from other manufacturers don't have this problem as an analog stick is emulated as an analog stick, not a digital button press.
Odin 2 is phenomenal. Tons of switch games and every console below. SDG2 is a powerhouse! I do think we need one more generational power increase to see better switch performance but we’re almost there.
as someone with an odin 2 pro, it's phenomenal, the ergonomics are great, performance is excellent (running most switch games at full res) and the battery life is phenomenal.
@@frostreaper1607 i think if you have something capable of emulating all of the systems portably that you want to already you probably shouldn't, but it is a great handheld. a bit smaller than the steamdeck but not insanely smaller and it does require a LOT of tinkering in regards to controller setups, drivers if emulating stuff like switch and if you wanna go further texture packs and mods that people have made for these games, also some games you can convert to android such as balatro.
yeah linus makes a good point. a Galaxy S23 is around $400 used, while the controller adapter is $99. So you have a better experience (better display, etc) for about the same or less money.
Yeah with a120Hz OLED, but what's the price for that gonna be, definitely even higher!? I just checked their website and they also have a Odin 2 Mini with a get this - a Mini-LED screen, did they really have to make it "mini" though with a small 5" screen and 5000 mAh battery!?🤦🏻♂️ But we can blame QC for this because we know those chips won't be cheap!

Since they recently announced the Pocket EVO that loses the pocketability of this model, but seems to pretty much fix every other problem with the device hardware-wise, I'm starting to wonder if AYANEO had to fulfill some kind of design quota for Qualcomm where they had to first release some kind of "premium" device to make Qualcomm look good before they could actually build the handheld they WANTED to build.
ARM Android gaming handhelds have a massive competitor: your current phone plus a snap-on controller. Until we see an ARM handheld with a Snapdragon X Elite chip running SteamOS 3 + x86 translation (Box64 or whatever) + Proton (+ Waydroid for the Android side), then you can forget it.
The AYN Odin is great for me, i can play all my gamecube,ps2 and wii games and play some great android games as well. The sticks feel great and the ergonomics are amazing.
Like, I get why people keep comparing this to other windows base handhelds because of the price. But it's an android device, people don't bring up other high-end handhelds like the odin 2, razer edge, and gpd xp enough. Those are the devices that a person who wants a higher end android handheld for android games would be looking at.
I have the Odin 2. It's an amazing gaming device. It emulates everything up to and including my Switch, and whilst I'm at home, I stream my PC games on it without the performance compromises of the Steam Deck. 😉
1:16 I will never understand the people that argue against having MicroSD on phones (these people, somehow, do exist). Its convenient for console modding, moving files between my various devices, good cheap storage for photos/videos/ROMs/music, PLUS the insane prices of internal storage. Internal storage prices are so bad that I'm planning to buy a usb c splitter, microSD adapter, usb c M.2 enclosure, a 2230 SSD, and making my own phone case for it all to fit into. It'll cost me about the same as moving up to a 256GB model and I'll instead get 1TB of fast, reliable storage, not to mention the fact that it's EASILY upgradable.
As someone who plays Genshin Impact on Ayaneo pocket S I can confirm Screen mapping works perfectly with GI. Stick mapping has two modes, Hold and Repeat. For left stick mapping used for movement you need to use 'Repeat' mode and for right stick 'Hold' mode. But the bummer is as of right now there is no way to manually adjust deadzone. There is a setting called "Range Adjustment" that toggle deadzone but default deadzone setting is around 22~25% which is huge. The sticks on my unit has small amount of drift that could have been fixed with less than 5% deadzone but if the game or emulator I am using do not have deadzone adjustment I am forced to use "Range Adjustment" with huge deadzone. Also there is no physical-button mapping considering it has seven extra buttons on it. I bought the Pocket S for its slim formfactor with 6" screen so that I can slide it in my pocket if need be, but if pocket-ability is not a big factor I'd recommend buying Ayn Odin 2 or Odin 2 Mini instead. I guess because Ayn had more experience with Android, their customization apps are much more refined. And Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been out for a while so its driver is more matured so some high-end emulation games plays better on Odin 2 than Pocket S.
I've had one for about a month now. No major complaints besides the sticks and face buttons being too small for me. Also wish it had a 3.5mm jack. It runs all PS2 and GC games great.
Steam deck is cheaper and does that obscenely well. If all you're playing is PS2 and GC, you could have saved even more money with Anbernic's rg cube or rg 556. Everything listed here has a 3.5mm jack, BT and wifi.
Linus, the right stick is on you. There are 2 modes available when placing on screen controls. One for joysticks like the left stick, and one for aiming. Both of yours are set to joystick mode. Also for Hoyoverse ganes with controller support you have to manually select it every time you launch the game, its just a mihoyo thing they never implemented auto detect.
The on screen controller problems were all user error. The settings can be changed to tweak how the right stick works. The on screen buttons qnd controls can also all be hidden.
At the high to top end, sure. Low end to mid stuff from Anbernic, Trimui, Retroid and even the R36s are all selling strong, even with the crazy release rate of consoles. Can't fit the deck in pockets, and I cherish that thing way too much to risk bringing it outside the house. Much more palatable and simpler to bring a sub $100 handheld.
