As I was watching this I was thinking just how much the three of you have changed since you set off. Uma is just so different and beautiful and has been transformed into her glory. And you both have grown so much as sailors and videographers and people. It's been pretty cool to watch. I hope you have years and years more of sailing adventures.
You know, it's funny Lynn should mention this. I didn't start watching this channel until about a year ago. I recently went back to watch a few of the first episodes and wow. They look like kids then but actual adults now. It's only been what 3 years or something? You guys have really grown and matured over that time. For the better I must say.
@@mikecamden Don't let their youth fool you, they came out of school as architectural designers with training in multivariate reasoning and problem solving. One of the chief things i enjoyed even in their early films was the well planned and reasoned approach to their gathering of knowledge and methodical solutions to their sailing skills and boat design. Also they tend to have an innate athleticism which they show and cultural inputs from Haiti and Canada. They are a very adaptive couple even before they got started. Kikas dancing and adaptations to cold weather suggest that she and Dan readily share solutions and work together like a team. Dan finesses every little project that he plans, and they regularly pick up the stray chores for each other when the other is working on a project. They are visual artists and that is why they do well in the presentations.
The last year was the hardest of my life, I've ADHD and severe depression and the whole covid sizzle thrown me backwards severely...... Until I found your channel and literally chose the option BINCH! I've cleaned my house, wrote me in as sailing crew with local clubs and try to stay positive. Thnx guys your last 5 years where my last 5 weeks (of inspiration)
Hands down best sailing content on RU-vid. Your communication with each other is amazing and the fact that you are both now very skilled sailors makes the co tent that much better!! Can't wait to see where you take us next!
@@beozzie690 The NBJS guy mainly motors in heavy winds, (same 25-30kts winds as what Dan and kika just showed us in this video) but NJBS pretends it to be unnecessarily epic, doesn't live on his boat, only has one sailing area , and only shows one "genre" of videos. Where Dan and Kika share their lifestyle as they SAIL around the world. I don't think you can compare the two channels. NJBS does have some of the best drone footage tho.
@@beozzie690 he is the son of a Nors God and really can't be compared to regular people out sailing. I keep hoping uma will meet up with him at some point. But all the same not a fair comparison. ;)
You kids have really become very good cinematographers and editors. I think your sailing channel is the best... no slime... no gratuitous sexy bs... just very good content!! I'm sure your folks are proud... I have parental pride! If you ever make it to the Eastern Med, I'd love to show you the TRNC.
I like how even though you're pretty experienced sailors, you consistently demonstrate caution and prudence in your sailing. A good running object lesson for all of us.
You'll are just an amazing couple who has shown experience and willingness to work hard and enjoy life to the fullest as you sail the world. God continues to blessed you'll.
It is amazing to see your progress from beginner sailors to very competent sailors. And the work you've done on your boat. Very inspiring. You've got a lot of the goofy entertainment stuff in your videos, but you are also the real deal. I think even Joshua Slocum would be impressed. "How do get a good crew? You marry them." You are the best sailing couple. One of the best. Forgot "Sailing Magic Carpet."
"I kept the gloves I borrowed, I didn't say I stole it" haha. You guys are a scream. Such good fun together & so in tune with each other. Have been watching a few sailing channels, and fell over yours quite recently. Smart thinking how you set your craft up. *thumbs up*. I rather enjoy following your channel - Interesting and informative different content from the northern hemisphere Arctic Circle, rather than the norm in of most other Sailors in tropical paradises. You're both so vibrant and refreshing to the soul. I recently subscribed to you channel, in catch up mode to present day at the moment. Keep on doing what you're doing, I'm along for the ride too. Cheers from NZ. M
We are in the Bahamas and I am experiencing the scariness of sailing the inlets. So glad to hear it gets better as we continue learning and doing! Thank you Kika, for helping me (Maggie Jay) learn to steer our Pearson, and to the two of you for teaching us about anchor set ups when we first started sailing last year. Your channel has been a huge help in lessening the learning curve!
I absolutely love watching you two sail. The line handling! The discussion of winds and seas! The communication between both of you! Such great examples of seamanship. Oh and Kika's karaoke!
Your vlog has become an essential “ must watch”. Full of total admiration of you very captivating input. I drove my 2 sons up to the Arctic circle in about 1980 , camping, one summer while I was working in Oman. But it was wet and miserable and once we made it ! I did an about turn and headed back south to to sun in Denmark.
Glad you made it safe to your next port. Picking your days to sail makes so much sense. Karaoke "shake it off" was very appropriate. Very good team effort. Nice - Working on your line skilz.
Many times I actually felt like we were sailing together during your filming, especially the shots of the bow wake and rolling a bit. Thanks for sharing, I miss sailing so much and this comforts that longing. Happy Days!
Once again you're all about real sailing, not just pretty beaches and sunny sailing days. I love your vlog, it's what I imagine I would encounter on the high seas.
You 2 are true sailors. Glad to see your harnesses on. The waves make me 🥴. Stay safe. Sailing Uma Photo Coffee Table Book please. Norway is breathe taking. Blessings!
Dear Uma and team, thanks for the videos which I have watched many clips. I come from Borneo but had the luxury of 2 weeks’ sailing in NZ 2 years ago. The videos bring back so much memory, fun, serenity,; the swells, harness... I hope you can do one video standing right at the bow of the boat in deep swells. So much exhilaration.
Thank you !!! One of your gifts is your music selections!!! Sail on and carry us with you as you go and I will listen to your commentary and excellent music !! It rings out aboard Paragon!!
Just a tip, on 4:54 your right hand is way to close to the winch, I know its a calm day, and nothing terrible would happen, but in a rougher day, having your hands that close to winch is never a good habit, I"ve seen some really bad injuries done exactly like that. Keep on the good work, love your videos, sail safe.
The modern day version of the Pardey's, but, we get to experience it visually in beautifully shot and edited 4k. I feel blessed... wonderful work! Bravo!
It's funny that you're both filming yourself mentioning how cold it is, while the other one is away. But Dan is adding layers when Kika is jumping everywhere doing push-ups and singing Moana. 😂
I have been binge watching for the past 2 weeks. You guys are so entertaining and makes us dream and makes me want to visit all these amazing places. By the way I am also from Haiti and leaves there and the ocean been part of my life. Kudos to leaving your dreams. Keep making us dream Kika and Dan and maybe some day we will get to meet in Haiti. So sad that I am done watching and have to wait for the next video. Cannot wait to see what will be your next adventure, project and plans. Safe travel and passage.
living in sunny, warm and humid Florida I enjoy "feeling" the cold you are experiencing. Loved the comment of your awareness of waves, winds and tides... the Caribbean being warm and where you are freezing cold. But the ocean offers all anywhere... Be blessed and safe!
This time there was a moment that I got something like "sense of sailing" just onboard of UMA. It is enough to see Kika to feel cold, and after this some shots of waves and bumpy sea are doing the rest. Very realistic- works on me:-)
I really enjoy how you obviously are concerned about your safety, being always tethered when moving on your boat. I always think it’s Murphy’s law, if you have it you will unlikely need it, but hell if you don’t!
Everytime I see this beautiful old girl strutting her stuff with you two I get a little emotional. From the yard to her real calling. Ok I am done. You two are the best❤❤
I love your sailing videos where you’re really sailing and we can see the sky, the clouds, the ocean, the waves, the sounds, the motion… my favorite channel, even if you’re not in the tropics, lol.
Boy, am I feeling warm here in SUNNY South Florida, I just thought I would mention that ;-) OK, hot, not just warm, but inside it is not too bad... Beautiful terrain you sailing around!
I love your sailing channel and the Norway in winter is absolutely stunning. I admire your sailing skills and brilliant cinematography. The fjords and stunning geography in winter is breathtakingly beautiful. Thank you for making these videos and sharing your experience.
I have never sailed the coast of Norway. I am amazed that it is possible to reach the Arctic Circle by doing what is essentially coastwise sailing, ducking into the a nearby harbor whenever necessary. But it seems to me that the Lofoten are a different story. So my unsolicited advice is to use a safety harness and jack lines whenever you are in conditions similar to those you experienced just before reaching the safety of a harbor on the Lofoten archipelago. You clearly are skilled at spotting and using weather windows to make the more challenging passages, but I would worry less if you wore your safety harnesses more often. --Uncle Arthur
Hummm, I agree. I lost my friend over board when sailing in warmer, but still as choppy, waters yrs ago. You never know when a rouge wave shakes the boat and you lose your footing. Now I always use harness whenever I leave the interior.
You guys have been very patient with the whole north thing.I just hope the mountains would turn green and beautiful for you.I hope you don't give up on us up here.It is cold and raw sometimes but now and then it is the most stunning place on the planet. You are young and stubborn you can do it.👍.
Tip on gloves! Jokka polar, there are finger and no finger for more warmth they are so waterproof you have to dry them every now and then or they get really smelly.
