Shape extension arm and position the handgrip where you want it, including rotating the grip like an ENG lens

Great vlog as usual! On your cup plan, I ended up going with the Robocup on my ProAim cart. I always have a 40 oz water bottle and I got the Plus add-on to hold it.

Sorry the 28-135 wasn’t a good fit, it’s been my go too for corpo stuff for a while, I rock a vct with a rosette extension arm. I’m used to the weight and prefer a weighted rig to smooth out jitters in footage… but I totally get why it didn’t work for your flow, glad you tried it out… just wish it would have been a better fit. As always love the vlogs!

I concur with you, I love the 28-135. I can get wides and tights in one lens, and the smooth aputure ring is awesome for exposure pulls. I’m using it on an A7Siii, sometimes rigged out.

In this vlog, I found that readjusting my setup, losing the vct/shoulder actually made for a better experience. I definitely wasn’t complaining as much today as I was yesterday.

you can get a handle relocater to put the handle out front next to the lens. I have the zacuto baseplate and shape handle extension.

The 28-135 is great for ‘reality’ and ‘doc’-work, fast action - you can easily reframe smooth during spontaneous conversations and mix two shots, singles, listening shots, and totals in 1 take, and give the editor a lot of variables to puzzle with. For corporate directed action… you don’t need any servo/optical stabilized lens that much. Would be amazing if sony would create a 28-135 2.8 version… that would be insane. And with the easyrig these days, no problem if it’s massive, lets go! 🥳

I could see a mark 2 on the horizon bc they released so many more full frame cameras since the release of the lens. However, for the time being it seems like a great option.

@@chrisweber7460 they sent me a survey a few months ago and it was explicitly targeted towards what do their customers want in a servo zoom. They were asking all the right questions, OSS, Internal zoom, autofocus, f2.8. I hope they take that data and make an awesome lens!!

Add rods to the bottom and attach the handle on the rods. i think they make fx6 lock to rosette adapters. You just put a rosette on the rods and you can have the handle on the front

There is nothing worse than having morning like that. It happens to the best of us. As great as the FX6 handle is, I often shoot without it so that I can relocate a gripping point. I even have a rosette adapter for the fx6 handle but I find that the 2.5mm extention cables needed to be unrelable. So most the time I just have a rosette wooden handle that I can put whereever. Just use the PZ toggle on the lens and the side record button.

Another great vlog, just wondering what are your thoughts on lighting for events like this. Do you just tend to take the smaller and more compact ones or even not bring any lighting.

Exactly. We are walking up and own this convention hall so I would only take the smallest light possible. Even more so if I didn’t have a cart. But I only need to light up one subject within 10 feet of camera and adapt to the different color temps of each room. So the 60x is perfect.

Maybe get a pad for your shoulder, like rest it on a backpack strap or something to make it more comfortable. a 15mm rod on the right side could put the grip where you want it as well.

The sony 18-110 lens shade with built in flip-down cover fits the 28-135 and does not vignette. So you don't have to drag the cap around.

I have 2 28-135's and been using them since 2018 along with them been asked for a lot of live performance shoots on sticks. Definity a different type lens but very good when ya need something that covers a lot range and don't mind the weight of it.

If you're struggling with stability flat soled shoes are not great for ninja walking, something designed for heal to toe movement with padding like running shoes work much better in my experience

Yeah it’s standard for broadcast lenses have grips on the lens. I have a grip locator, I show it in previous vlog. Fingers crossed for an update!

I wonder if adapting the Canon CN-E servo lenses would make sense for your work. They are 18-80 T4 and 70-200 T4 - both with an optional side handle. Support C-AF and S-AF as well!

This is my first time using the 28-135 and if I only did conference work, I think it would be a great pairing. But the f4 is limiting for my other projects. The CN-e zooms look great. I love that side grip you mentioned. Good prices. But only s35. Again, too limited for the fx6. I think the full frame/af/documentary zoom is still an untapped market. Waiting to see which manufacturers step up.

@@fotografkennethlund considering the talent is 4ft away from him, I would not be too concerned vs transmitting over 20-50ft which Sennheisser is king. But, I would totally rock the DJI MIC 2 when it has 32bit and internal recording so most likely I would use as a backup. If it was a live stream, I would NOT use the DJI that’s for sure 🤣. I’m just happy that there is a solution to bring in audio directly into the FX6 besides the XLRs inputs since there is no 3.5 jack.

The 24-105 2.8? 24 on s35 isn’t as wide as I would prefer. Essentially it’s the fov of the tamron 35-150 after the 1.5x crop.

@@davidmorefield from 28 to 33.6 is one step back( C70 is 1.4 crop not 1.5) . And you gain 45 mm on the long end. Just saying

Curious how many Vmount batteries you used throughout your day? How long did it last on your camera and how long did it last on your light? I didn’t see any extra batteries on your cart and saw the camera left on while rolling around so assume battery life was good for the day. Thanks 🎥

Love these vmounts from Core. Powering my cam and monitor, each 98wh lasts 3:30. I am normally switching my camera off between scenes. Have only been running through 1.5 each day. The light has lasted all day but it’s not on very often. I just accepted a collaboration with smallrig to review their 225wh battery. That will be great for my larger led panel.

Lensrentals for sure. Never had an issue. This was a really nice use case for the rental. I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t have this 6 day conference gig. It helped me test so many variable and new situations. I might keep doing it. Really informative.

I only like it on tripod on the FX6, it's great with the larger, heavier FX9. For Easy Rig or handheld on the tiny FX6, too large and front heavy, even with a mini V-Mount in back and I've been shooting a ton on my Easy Rig lately. Also, not wide enough, 28mm FOV is too tight for handheld verite shooting. I dig my 24-105 more, I don't do many shoots where servo is needed or wanted.

Handheld against your body is is well balanced and I am running just barebone FX6 with FX9 loupe. Great setup.
