I have a 2018 Camry LE....296,000 miles, bought it with 38k miles for $24k in 2019. The only issue was the brake pump recall... litteraly no other issues. I drove between 1-3 thousand miles per week for 4 yrs from St Louis to Kansas City and back 4 days a week at minimum. I Did not drive it lightly either, never changed the transmission fluid once either. Scotty, I want to bring it down next time your in Tennessee!
My mother has a 95 camry she bought new. Serviced by the same tech it's whole life. It now has 90K on it. The interior is like brand new. Leather, faux wood grain, loaded with heated seats. She's giving it to me because she's 92 and doesn't want to drive anymore. This thing is a puff. 6 cyl with every option. Yup, it'll be my daily with great gas mileage. it's worked flawless for her and it will with me. Now I can keep my 70 fastback mustang, my 02 4 door sr5, 4wd taco with the 3.8, and not worry about anything.
I'm the same way at times. A new car is great but hasn't yet proven itself. An older car like the one he showed us has proved it's value over the years and miles.
I have the same camry with 130k. I wanted to trade it for a new highlander:) Your video changed my mind! These cars are boring because they need nothing but oil and gas :)
I have a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe with 240k with 2.4 engine. The only thing I replaced are O2 and oil pressure sensor and ofcourse the regular belt and such. Alternator and other sensors are still original. I can't believe how reliable this is.
That's cool! First gen santa fes are great. They're all made in Korea, and despite how cheap and unsafe they look by today's standards, mechanically, they're really reliable. Second generation is decent too despite being made in Alabama. Third generation and up is when all the engine problems started, like blowing up, oil burnings and fires and basically destroyed not only the Santa Fe's reputation but hyundai's and kia's reputation as well
I have a 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2.4L with 243,000 miles original spark plugs and all original equipment. Proper regular scheduled maintenance and "Sandy Fe" gives me 36 mpg on the highway. No tranny issues either. Would love for Scotty to thumb his nose at this bullet proof SUV. Lifetime engine warranty too!
I've got a 2009 Corolla 1.8. Bought it new. It has 177 K. Runs like a top. Doesn't burn oil gets 34 mpg. I don't baby it but I don't abuse it. Looks great. Wife was reimbursed 55 cents a mile for 49K miles. Back out the gas 2 brake jobs 3 sets of tires 4 spark plugs 2 tranny fluid changes 1 antifreeze change 2 windshields and exactly 40 oil changes that car paid for itself and all maintenance giving me a free car for 138k free miles. Plus whatever the car is still worth. I was so impressed with Toyota I bought new in 2019 a 4runner. So I'm totally with Scotty. Toyota all the way !!
Scotty I’m upset with Toyota 2024 Highlander with 1600 miles already needs a new transmission with code Po7757F control solenoid B stuck off and found metal shavings on the fluid. Toyota has dropped the ball. Now my car has to sit at the dealership till a new transmission comes in 😡
If your in the USA, and If it's going to be there longer than 30 days, you probably have a case for lemon law. Maybe sooner, check your state laws. Not sure how it works outside the USA. They MAY also have to provide a courtesy car to, at the very least they SHOULD even if it is not required by law.
Sorry to hear that. I had some issues with my new car, and they weren't going to give me a loaner. Contacted my state's DOJ consumer division and FTC. They gave me a loaner then. As the poster above said look up your states lemon laws. Don't take any gruff from these dealerships .
Scotty, I have 6 GM cars in my family, since 2002; 2011, 2012 No complaints . Over 150,000 miles each. So I stick to GM for my next car, but it will be gas for sure
My 15 1/2 year old car died last year. The engine was still running good. Since I didn't know anything about the new tech that new cars had I thought I would try to find something similar to what I had. No direct injection. Naturally aspirated, which means no turbo boosting and a timing chain not a timing belt. The closest I came to it was the 2021 Honda HR-V. It only has a 1.8 L engine while my old car had a 2.0L but that is as close as I could get to my old 2009 Dodge Caliber SXT. Now I just have to find one to buy.
2015 Honda Civic 4 dr w CRV tranny no less will get 45 mpg at 70 mph on the TransCanada. Ave. around town is 30 mpg. That's Imperial gallons or 4.56 liters.
Next video: "If you see this video, I'm already dead. I scheduled this upload." What the videos actually about: "Today, I'm going to explain why the Celica is the best thing ever made to mankind."
200 k on a 5 year old car. Why don''t you get out from behind the wheel once in awhile? Not healthy to drive that much, right? Not that you would give a care what I write... after all, its only a comment section.
Hello Scotty, you keep saying how great Toyota Camry are I must be the most unlucky person, I have bought two Camry’s 2010 brand new and just over went over 100,000 miles and started having transmission problems. So I thought okay sold it and thought I was just unlucky with that one and went and bought another one 2017 this time used at the Toyota Dealership had 28,000 miles on it. Just paid it off in March. Went to have it serviced in May and during the service they said the main seal is leaking and would cost 6,000 had no light come on for engine problems. Started watching your video see if you talk about a fix for it? Then I started having problems with it jerking and slowing down RPMs going up, so again i take it to get service and ask what service does it need she said coolant needs to be replaced serviced, ok I told them to do that and I asked about transmission service and she insisted the transmission does not need to be serviced because it’s a closed transmission. It’s sealed. So they did the coolant service. Still driving and continuing having problems on the road., other cars going around me because I’m going too slow car does not want to go so I asked my son to change the spark plugs. Maybe that’s the problem, still did not help. So I took it back to Toyota to check to see if my son but the spark plugs in correctly, (I normally only allow the dealership to do any maintenance) they said he did. So went home and watching your shows on transmissions. Call Toyota again brought it in to have them check out the transmission and they came back and said I need a whole new transmission and there’s coolant in the transmission fluid and they don’t know how that happens but it was gonna cost me almost $10,000 so on top of the $6000 they quoted me and May I have another $10,000 for transmission replacement. I told them Toyota are supposed to reliable vehicles. I shouldn’t have all these problems at 120,000 miles and asked to call corporate office and have them explain it to me why I have to replace the transmission and a seal. Corporate office just got back to me this week and said they will do nothing about it because I bought it used. They may put $800 towards the fixing of the coolant that goes to the transmission not sure what that is, but that’s one of the parts. So much for trying to retire in two years I have to find a second job so I can make payments on a car again. QUIT SAYING TOYOTA ARE GREAT CARS . You’re a great mechanic maybe Toyota were great back in the day but not anymore. Never wrote a letter before so thanks for reading if you do read this.
Might be your dealership helping you unburden that heavy wallet... Toyota still is the most reliable manufacturer and even then they have some lemons and poorly serviced second hand ones around... The fact that your dealership says the transmission doesn't need servicing for example sounds like they willfully didn't do service required so the transmission would go out ...
You gotta pay attention to his videos a little more. Most newer cars are crap even Toyotas and Hondas. And I get 2017 is a used but you really just have to heavily do research when buying cars because that generation of Camrys are known for being garbage known for transmission problems. But most people want a newer looking car that’s used but some of those are just crap too honestly but no one wants to buy the old 2003 Camry cause it’s not that good looking and not new features and you find them with like 150-200k miles. But the thing is, those actually last way past that. And you get it for super cheap. Buy an old car and I mean old and buy an Apple car play kit and install it yourself. Instead of paying 20k plus for a nicer newer 50-70k mile toyota that breaks down at 100k buy one with like 200k or less for cheap and win at life
No one ever said every single car Toyota builds, will be problem free and at high mileage. The majority of Toyotas run great as they age, not all do though. It's math, a certain percentage might have more issues than others with high mileage. Compared to other vehicles, Toyotas run for a long time.
Don't necessarily be scared of cars with high mileage, as long as you know their provenance. Long highway miles means low revs. Low city miles means stop and go traffic, which (especially with direct fuel injection) doesn't really allow the engine to stretch its legs.
My mom just let go of a Toyota Corolla. It had 280+ thousand on it. Best car I think she ever owned. I see it often, it's still on the road with another owner.
Vvti gear issue, transmission shudder issue, acceleration hesitation... There was a TSB for transmission shudder. Be prepared to spend around $4000 to fix when you buy these camrys from 2012 to 2014.
I just picked up a 2010 scion tc 180,000 for 2500$ wanted 3k. I have to put front wheel bearings on her. Already put on new brakes. At least I can work on it.
Only real issue with electric cars is the battery. Need to standardize size etc. across brands plus make rebuildanle easily if just a cell or two go bad.
This Toyota Camry shows why Toyota is the best car maker in the world. They make well-engineered cars that average people can afford AND their cars last a long time. That's why their resale value is usually good.
My 2014 Avalon Hybrid I sold with 250k miles 6 months ago and still drove like it was brand new. I bought a 2nd 2014 Avalon Hybrid with 87k miles it had a recall on the paint job and had my whole car repainted for free last month and all new trim. Headlights tail lights chrome door handles. The Avalon Hybrid is hands down the best Hybrid on the planet for the money.
I like the old boring Camry's. Most all of the technology in the new Camry's is garbage that ruins a great car. I bought, what I thought, was a great new Camry in 2020. It was a pile of junk that couldn't skip a month without something new going wrong with it. I say wrong but Toyota said it was normal. I might take another chance when the prices get back down to what the car is worth.
ev car burst into flames on ocean cargo ship.... loaded with 100s of high dollar cars like lambos volkswagons ..bmws and more.. sunk everything to the bottom of ocean 😮😮😮😮😮😮
I have the 2012 se with 257000 miles on it. Check engine light cam on yesterday so I went to autozone to get scanned. It came back gas cap and low battery voltage lol. All I do is change the oil in it. I change it about every 3 thousand miles though because it's burning oil in it and it definitely doesn't hurt to be extra cautious. I want to see how long i can take it. Any advise?
Hearing Scotty talk about cars is all i need. I love my old 2.0L Cars that just run. For me its Peugeot. A good Peugeot from 20 years ago with a 2.0L Motor will last a long time. Since Toyota has a price tag on it (even the used ones) Peugeot is my Toyota haha.
Had the opposite luck with Peugeot, scrapped a car with barely 40k miles on it last year Had terrible luck with a Renault 2.0 megane scenic and also a citroen work van All utter garbage
Back in 71’ my father bought my sister a dodge colt. $2850 brand new with a/c and auto. The mechanic in the back of the dealership told me the car was built to last 35,000 miles. It’s all plastic.👍
Edit: its still my daily driver
first : I enjoy you and the show. 2: on the sports ($$ repair) anyone selling the tubes/gears/ect.. kits to replace what is poorly done ? 3: do a show and what are common sensors. 4: thankyou for making my day better. 5: O B D 1.
Despite being boring, The Toyota Camry beat the weird oval shaped 1996 Ford Taurus as the #1 selling car in the USA because Toyota Camry's are very reliable
Love your show, BUT, your political opinions are “CRAP”.....Electric vehicles are here to stay.... ...NO one wanted to give up their horses for gas cars.....but in time they came round....
He forgot to tell us all to vote for the Green Party! 😂 Anyway, I have a 2011 Camry SE, I just had my first "major" issues. The alternator went bad and I had a hole in the exhaust welded. It started getting louder, despite how cool it sounded I took care of it. 😁
