my most favorite way to stim is by jumping and walking around my room very quickly. it's really nice after coming home from school, since i get to release all that pent up energy. though sometimes i tend to get tired and sweaty T_T. my parents don't know what stimming is, so they think i just really like dancing lol

That sounds like a fantastic way to release energy and unwind after a long day at school! It's great that you found a method that works well for you. It's understandable that it can be tiring at times, but it's all part of the process of letting go of that built-up energy. As for your parents thinking you just like dancing, well, it's nice to have a cover story! Keep on grooving and enjoying your time in your room! 😊🕺🏽

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Plonkapple! It's wonderful to hear about your journey of self-discovery with new stims. Your partner sounds incredibly supportive and understanding, which is so important in any relationship. Stimming, or any behavior that makes you who you are, should never be a source of shame. In fact, it's something to take pride in. Many of us with autism self-regulate by internalizing our frustrations rather than projecting them onto others, and stimming is our way of releasing that accumulated sensory energy. I truly appreciate that you found the video heartwarming, and I'm sending virtual hugs to you and your partner! 💖💖

This is so cute! First time I’ve seen stimming in a cute animation like this! It’s a nice way to release pent up energy. I’m autistic and sometimes I’ll have short running bursts and jump around in the living room when my parents aren’t in there. They’re not happy when they catch me doing it though so I try to control it. I carefully fiddle with my hair too. I also stim by quietly calling out my dog’s name and her nicknames under my breath… it’s hard because she passed away in January.

Thank you so much for opening up and sharing your experiences with us. It's incredibly heartwarming to know that you found the animation cute and relatable. I'm truly sorry to hear about the loss of your dog in January; losing a beloved pet can be incredibly difficult. It's clear that you have found various ways to cope, such as fiddling with your hair and quietly calling out your dog's name. These are understandable ways to seek comfort and connection. Remember to be kind to yourself as you navigate through these emotions. Sending you virtual hugs and wishing you all the best.💖

@PixiGags
@PixiGags 4 месяца назад
Curious, isn't it? I believe there's something about the animation process that resonates with people on the spectrum. It offers a structured routine, requires a unique discipline to focus on, and involves repetitive movements; all elements that many neurodivergent individuals find comfort in. Additionally, animation-making is accommodating to sensory inertia and delay. I'm glad you enjoyed the animation, it means a lot! ⭐

Their *neurodivergance* might be why you know them, as they felt familiar, and the neurodivergance was a topic of conversation that helped you connect over your shared interest in animation. I was thinking about this the other day, i know a lot of people in a lot of different fields, but many of them intimidate me, so i probably only consider TRYING to be-friend certain safe-feeling people. Thus the friends i make often end up with similar traits, it's really just caused by me (often subconsciously).

@@althelor Huh, I thought everyone does this/knows about this! I remember mom snapping at me for it, telling me that it's a bad habit. So it felt like everyone knows this is a thing, and some get annoyed by it. But I may very well be wrong. My therapist has a hard time convincing me that I'm AuDHD precisely because I feel like everyone has problems with the same stuff as me (planning, sleeping, meeting deadlines, remembering where you put things...). So whenever she tells me that something is a neurodivergent trait, I feel like it's just a generic thing that everyone does to some extent.
@C_Cat-yd1pz
@C_Cat-yd1pz 2 месяца назад
@kathorsees Hi ASD person with a special interest in psychology here. A lot of neurodivergent traits are also neurotypical traits. The difference is intensity. For example everyone has interests but not everyone feels like if they don't engage with their interest RIGHT NOW they will die. Another example Noone likes being interrupted but not everyone will be brought to tears and feel like their world is collapsing if it happens. Hope this helps. :)

Thank you for sharing, @jesse_9_11! I'm so glad my video made you happy. It's important to embrace and understand stimming as a natural part of life. There is no shame in stimming; it's a sensory relief that helps you regulate yourself. Remember, nobody can make you feel shame unless you allow it first. Your sister likely has some unresolved shame that she is unconsciously projecting onto you. Just be proud of yourself, and whatever others think is their problem, not yours! My most frequent stims as a person with ADHD: •Rocking •Standing still and swinging my body back and forth •Putting a bright light up to my eyes (I don't recommend this, but I developed it.when I was a baby) •Blinking rapidly •Humming
@PixiGags
@PixiGags 3 месяца назад
Thank you for sharing your stims, Didi! They all sound wonderful. I'm a bit concerned about you staring at a bright light, as it could potentially harm your retina over time. May I suggest an alternative? Try holding a finger up close to your eyes and focus on it, then shift your focus back and forth from the finger to objects in the distance. This exercise not only avoids potential problems but also strengthens the muscles responsible for adjusting to distance and maintaining healthy eyesight. Another option is to look around with your eyes, making squares, circles, and other geometric shapes. This helps strengthen your eye muscles and keeps your eyes strong. I hope these suggestions help! 💖👀☘

I only just now came across this channel and I love this :] I'm autistic and I stim a whole lot to comfort myself- My specific stims are sadly almost all extremely easy to make fun of or judge, way more so than more common ones, so I don't feel safe disclosing them to anyone other than people I really really trust- I do have one that's not so "bad" and that's rocking side-to-side when I happen to be laying down, it's mainly a happy stim :] (because the things that make me happiest are my online friends, and I often message them when I'm already in bed)

Dear Armageddongirl, thanks for bringing up an important point! Stimming is indeed a behavior that many engage in, and it's not exclusive to neurodivergent people. It's simply a way to self-regulate and express ourselves. Your reminder is very appreciated! If it's okay with you, I'd like to suggest using the word "neurotypical" instead of "normal."
