Worship W/ Non Catholics: Can You Do It?

The law of the Catholic Church forbids participation in a religious service that is not Catholic because it is an implied repudiation of the faith which a Catholic professes to be the only true faith. It is good for non-Catholics to realize this so that, knowing that Catholics must refuse, they will not ask them to assist at the religious ceremony itself and then be offended as if refusal were due to lack of friendship.

What was something that you did as a Catholic that you NOW know is wrong?
@marksilva2929
@marksilva2929 Год назад
1. Bowing before entering the cage in MMA, and too my coach in Muay Thai. 2. Not teaching my kids enough when they were younger. (I've only recently became a stoinger Catholic.) 3. Yoga, horoscopes and talking about chakras. 4. Receiving communion in the hands. 5. Not listening to my dad while he was alive. He took me to Latin Mass every week as a kid and I never took the time to learn Latin. Now I'm trying to learn the mass and prayer's. I'd almost say everything before the last couple years. Im trying to learn so much from all the RU-vidrs you mentioned and books. This formate of video is perfect. It's simple and it's all choices we have to make. While doing Yoga it felt so good. I have a lot of injuries. But there was something very detrimental too my soul. Personally I was deep into it. We would stay around after class and talk about stones or crystals. There were two things that really stopped me. One was a teacher saying she put a spell on me so I would like her, and at the time I did. The other was someone pointing out the poses we do are forms of worship in the Hindu religion. To write everything, I would have to write a book. But hearing your experience's helps us as subscribers not feel alone.

I had a Church off with my buddy 4 years ago I went to his nondenominational church and I brought him to a Novus Ordo mass which blew away his church service I am a parishioner of St John Cantius I wish I brought him there for the Traditional Latin mass I think he would have been blown away but as a cradle Catholic I didn’t know I shouldn’t have gone to his service I did confess that at confession years ago .

@@gerard5071 it is most definitely sinful for a Catholic to participate in non Catholic religions. In considering the question of Catholics joining in non-Catholic worship, the constant and uniform testimony of Scripture and Tradition must be maintained: *Catholics may never actively participate in non-Catholic worship* This prohibition follows chiefly from the First Commandment in light of the fact that all non-Catholic worship is false, actions standing contrary to right faith and in violation of both natural and divine law. Such acts are therefore objectively disordered, independent of the subjective culpability of those who engage in such worship. A second, closely connected reason for this discipline is that of making a lie by demonstrating a false religious unity: *for a Catholic to join in non-Catholic worship is to manifest a certain unity with that community, contradicting the true unity of the Church* This leads to a third reason of scandal: Catholics who actively engage in false worship give the objective impression that such disordered acts are permissible, even laudable, and in this way endanger right faith (on the part of Catholics) and confirm non-Catholics in their error. A final reason for this prohibition is that it involves an omission of fraternal charity: by engaging in *false* worship, the Catholic fails in his duty to mercifully instruct the ignorant, admonish the sinner, and share the Gospel. It is therefore doctrinally indefensible to admit of a discipline - alien to the constant and uniform tradition of the Church - that would permit (much less encourage) the active participation of Catholics in non-Catholic worship. That many Catholics today do so anyway (sadly, often encouraged by priests, bishops, and popes) is neither contested nor excusable. We leave questions of culpability to the God, who alone judges hearts; however, we may certainly condemn actions that run contrary to what has been believed “always, everywhere, and by all.” When such actions violate what is holiest, highest, and best, it becomes even more pressing to act. Furthermore, it should be noted that traditionally, if Catholics might be permitted a certain passive participation in occasions of false worship, this was admitted only if the instance was: 1) an extraordinary circumstance, 2) commended by some grave reason, and 3) not overtly scandalous. The cautious qualifications here reflect the gravity of the act in question and recognition of the fact that any form of worship is informed by the beliefs of the worshipping community, demonstrating and effecting their religious unity as well. *Thus for a Catholic, even passive participation in non-Catholic worship is a question that must be weighed with great caution*

It’s always good to confess sins as you recall them, but if I’m not mistaken, if you make a sincere confession, ALL of your sins are absolved unless you’re intentionally hiding a sin from the priest. So if you’ve made a sincere confession and then later recalled an old sin, don’t be tough on yourself. It was forgiven but you can confess it in your next confession to alleviate your conscience.

O Mary, the Mother of mercy and the Refuge of sinners, cast a look of compassion on our son [daughter] who has strayed away from the path of duty and is living in enmity with God. Do not allow him [her] to perish, but deign to obtain for him [her] the grace of a sincere and lasting conversion, for thou art the Queen of mercy and the Refuge of sinners, and art, moreover, all-powerful with thy divine Son, Who cannot refuse thy prayers. Be a compassionate mother to our son [daughter], and bring him [her] from the road of perdition to the way of salvation. Amen. I will pray for you and your daughter ♥️

Your informal, no-edit style in this video is great and genuinely conversational and so authentically Catholic. At the same time, sometimes edits are inevitable because of home circumstances, a sneeze, better ideas or better ways to express something coming suddenly to your mind, etc., etc. and that's legit, too. As far as the content in the video, fabulous as usual. Authentic Catholic Truth is a mature and maturity-inducing PARADOX. The one paradox in the video is that our True Catholic Faith is absolutely strong and absolutely invincible, on one side, but we humans are weak and easily defeated if compromising and consuming tasty but toxic spiritual food, on the other side. This Most Powerful Catholic Paradox must be embraced as all the True Saints did, which is why they never ever compromised and became ever holier and ever stronger in Authentic Truth and Authentic Love. We are not invincible, God and his Authentic Catholic Truth IS. Thank you, ma'am!

@Raas Kaas “making up stories” I don’t think Sacred Scripture is a story book. Do you seriously not understand how Jesus Christ is King which makes HIS mother the Queen?
@ACatholicWife
@ACatholicWife Год назад
@Raas Kaas you are so prideful you can’t see the silliness of your own words. Mary isn’t dead. If she’s dead - your faith is pointless. You can keep repeating nonsensical statements but that doesn’t make you credible. Jesus Christ is King. That makes His mother the Queen. Since the mother of the king always ruled as queen mother, we should expect to find the mother of the messianic king playing the role of the true queen mother in the everlasting Kingdom of God. With this Old Testament background, we can now more clearly see how the New Testament portrays Mary in light of the queen mother tradition. The Gospel of Matthew has often been called the “Gospel of the Kingdom.” Matthew emphasizes that Jesus is “the Son of David,” who is the true King of the Jews establishing the “Kingdom of Heaven.” With all this kingly imagery, it should not be surprising to find queen mother themes as well. Right away, Matthew shows explicitly how the infant Jesus is the “Emmanuel” child as prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 (Matt. 1:23). As we saw above, this prophecy links the royal messianic child with his queen mother. Further, Matthew singles out the intimate relationship between the mother and her royal son by using the phrase “the child and his mother” five times in the first two chapters, recalling the close association between queen mother and royal son as described in the Books of Kings. Just as the queen mother was constantly mentioned alongside the Judean kings in 1 and 2 Kings, so Mary is frequently mentioned alongside her royal son, Jesus, in Matthew’s infancy narrative (Matt. 1:18; 2:11, 13, 14, 20, 21). We find Mary portrayed against the background of Davidic kingdom motifs in Luke’s Gospel as well, especially in his accounts of the Annunciation and Visitation. First, the angel Gabriel is said to appear to a virgin betrothed to a man “of the house of David” (1:27). Then the angel tells Mary, “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there will be no end” (Luke 1:31-33). Hear the strong Davidic overtones describing Mary and her royal son: a woman from the house of David giving birth to a son who will be the new king whose reign will never end. With echoes from the queen mother tradition of the Davidic kingdom and the mother-son prophecy of Isaiah 7:14, we can conclude that Mary is being given the vocation of queen mother. Mary’s royal office is made even more explicit in Luke’s account of the Visitation. Elizabeth greets Mary with the title “the mother of my Lord” (Luke 1:43). This title is charged with great *queenly* significance. In the royal court language of the ancient NearEast, the title “Mother of my Lord” was used to address the queen mother of the reigning king (who himself was addressed as “my Lord”; cf., 2 Sam. 24:21). Thus with this title Elizabeth is recognizing the great dignity of Mary’s role as the royal mother of the king, Jesus. Finally, *Mary’s queenship* can be seen in the great vision described in ✨Revelation 12: “And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; she was with child and she cried out in her pangs of birth, in anguish for delivery” (Rev. 12:1-2). Who is this newborn child? He is described as the messianic king exercising his dominion. In verse 5, the author of Revelation chose the messianic Psalm 2 to describe how this child will “rule all the nations with a rod of iron” (Rev. 12:5, Ps. 2:9). This royal son is taken up to heaven to sit on a throne (Rev. 12:5), and he ushers in the kingdom of God by defeating the devil: “Now the kingdom of our God has come, for the accuser has been throne down” (12:10). Certainly, this newborn child is the royal Messiah, *King Jesus* In this light it is clear who this woman is who gave birth to the messiah: *It is Mary* Some people have interpreted this woman in Revelation 12 as merely a symbol either for the Old Testament people of Israel or for the New Testament Church and therefore have concluded that the woman cannot be an individual (i.e., Mary). However, this “either-or” proposition is foreign to the biblical worldview, in which individuals often symbolically represent collective groups. For instance, Adam represented all humanity (Rom. 5:19), and Jacob stood for all of Israel (Ps. 44:4). Given this *biblical* notion called “corporate personality,” the woman in Revelation 12 should be understood as both an individual (Mary) and a symbol for the people of God. But for our purposes, once we see that this woman is Mary, the mother of Jesus, it is important to note how she is portrayed as queen in this passage. Her royal office is hinted at by the imagery of the sun, moon, and twelve stars, which recalls the Old Testament story of Joseph’s dream in which the sun, moon, and stars bow down before him, symbolizing his future authority (Gen. 37:9-11). Her queenship is made even clearer by the crown of twelve stars on her head. Just like the queen mother in Jeremiah 13:18, here Mary is wearing a crown, symbolizing her royal office in the kingdom of heaven. ✨In sum, Revelation 12 portrays Mary as the new queen mother in the Kingdom of God, sharing in her son’s rule over the universe. We have seen how the Old Testament queen mother tradition serves as an important background for understanding Mary’s royal office. Indeed, the New Testament portrays Mary as the queen mother par excellence. Thus, prayers, hymns, and art giving honor to Mary’s queenship are most fitting biblical responses for Christians. *In honoring her as queen mother we do not take anything away from Christ’s glory* but rather *we exalt Him* even more by recognizing the great work HE HAS DONE in her and through her. Understanding Mary as queen mother sheds light on her important intercessory role in the Christian life. Just like the queen mother of the Davidic kingdom, Mary serves as advocate for the people in the Kingdom of God today. Thus, we should approach our queen mother with confidence, knowing that she carries our petitions to her royal son and that he responds to her as Solomon did to Bathsheba: “I will never refuse you.”

This has been such a difficult part of my journey the past few years -- I am a Catholic, have always practiced the faith. My ex and I married in the Church, and were both Catholic. We divorced after 22 years, in 2004. Neither has remarried. He does not practice the Faith, nor do four of our five grown children. My one son who does go to Mass sometimes is not in a good state, spiritually or as to his emotional health. He and his fiancée have lived together for nine years and are now "getting married." Both are baptized Catholics -- she came into the Church in 2019 -- but the "wedding" will be a non-religious "celebration of love" in a banquet hall. Not specifically as a protest, but to create some space for myself from his narcissistic abuse of me, I am not planning to be at the ceremony. He said maybe I don't belong there; I agree. He told me he may no longer want a relationship with me. 😢 Their ceremony is not going to regularize their status in the Church. There are particulars that mean the marriage will probably be invalid from the get go. It is complex and sad. But I don't want to attend and be a phony as those in attendance would congratulate them and me. What they have planned is not really something to celebrate. 😢💔💜🙏 Please pray for all of us!

When I was look at different faiths I went to a Catholic church but was confused by a few things. One was that Mary was an immaculate conception. Second the communion wafers are not representative of Christ body but are Christ body. Third was the amount of classes required before I could take part in a mass or communion. The Lutheran church didn't require all the classes but was much the same as the Catholic. Baptist Church was very welcoming. I liked the meditation of the Buddhist. The Jewish once again required a lot of study and money. I learned a lot from this experience. Jesus just ask me to take up my cross and follow Him. He didn't say take these classes first. He did say to take communion to remember Him but not as an exclusive right.

My sister and I are the only ones that being faithful to being Catholic. All the rest of my family changed it really hurts me , because my mom brought us up and made sure we made our communion and our confirmation. Thanks for the video. I really appreciate a Catholic woman's perspective on these topics. I was also very ignorant on my faith growing up and didn't even read the catechism until I was 29 or 30. I'm personally guilty of being heavily influenced by Protestantism growing up, because I have many Protestants in my family and also because I was ignorant and didn't realize that the differences were important. I think when you don't know your Catholic faith, it can be confusing and you can easily be led to believe things that are against Catholic teachings. I never got into non-Catholic speakers and authors, but have attended Protestant services many times. Knowing what I know now, it's not a good idea if you're still learning about your faith. I admit I never heard anything about it being wrong or sinful until you mentioned it, but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm still ignorant on things. The Catholic faith is so rich and deep that I'm constantly learning! So, I've gone more recently to Protestant services with my dad, aunt/uncle, cousins, etc. I do have my "rules," though. First, it's not a substitute for Catholic mass and the eucharist, and that might be the biggest mistake an ignorant Catholic can make. So, if I go, I also go to Catholic mass somewhere else (and make a point of inviting the non-Catholics around me). Second, I don't participate in every part of the service, so I don't receive their version of communion, for example, and I explain this to the people who I've attended with. For me, it's actually been a great opportunity to educate my non-Catholic friends and family about my Catholic faith, who have actually gone to mass with me (even though they don't receive communion, of course). It's the same, by the way, with LDS members of my family (I have quite the interfaith family). I agree that it's important that we don't come across as treating Catholicism as one Christian denomination among many, and so I've tried to be very open and clear about my faith with non-Catholics. I'd be curious to know what people think about the way I've gone about this. I never thought of it as wrong as long as I went about it this way, but I will definitely check out the video links, because I obviously don't want to do something if it's wrong.

@julie cognac I appreciate you sharing your opinion with me. Did you happen to read & share the blog post from Fr. Nix which outlines how they did blaspheme Our Lady with your sister? Also from Fr. Nix: “A friend convinced me last night to give "The Chosen" another try, even after I wrote a blog post against the blasphemy against Our Lady in it. This evening, I agreed and randomly downloaded one that happened to be the Gospel from today: Jesus being found in the temple. Within five minutes of this "The Chosen" episode, Mary and Joseph find Jesus in the Temple. She is frantic and then Joseph asks the child Jesus what He will do for such a "transgression" against His mother. Yes, "transgression" is the same as sin. *Total blasphemy* Now the two episodes I have tried of "the Chosen" blaspheme not only Mary (something I have come to expect from Protestants) but have blasphemously accused Christ Himself of a "transgression." These things are very offensive to God, regardless of how they make us feel.

I listened out of curiosity, to see if the things that you avoid are the same as the ones that i avoid... and they are! lol :) so cool! Related to yoga, i also avoid anything connected to law of attraction stuff -which is also new age related - which i got deeply into when i was wandering the world -- till i was in a deep conversation with one of my coaches and as our conversation got stuck on a loop, i noticed that he sounded more and more like the serpent in the garden because he was using scripture to question my beliefs and suddenly, i saw my poor coach as a puppet, completely under the control of satan. BUT - the classes i took were an excellent eyopener, because i became aware of the necessity to check the SOURCE. Even if something seems innocent and even helpful -- the SOURCE Truly Matters! This ties into protestant books, podcasts, religious movies, services, etc. I grew up protestant. I first left my protestant faith for the Orthodox church. When i did, i purged myself of all my protestant books. I left the Orthodox church for the World. (had to sort things out with God - i thought he surely hated me). NEVER imagined i'd stumble into the Catholic church (neither protestants nor orthodox have anything good to say about the Catholics). I offend my protestant family when i refuse to participate in communion with them. I avoid going to church when i visit them, but i went once - it was the church i grew up in and it was some special stuff happening -- and the depth of the emptiness i experienced there was astronomical. It made me exceedingly sad. I also visited an Orthodox church once, after becoming Catholic - it was during Lent, - i was just going to meet with the priest because he'd been so helpful to me in the past and he'd written to me out of the blue to check up on me, and i wanted to talk to him. (didn't happen, because he got stuck in traffic, and i had waited for several hours already, so i thought i'd sit in on the akathist they were having) -- and that was a total eyeopener as to how different the orthodox are! They weren't exactly taking a swipe at Our Lady, because they love her to bits, but it was really Off. The Akathist is a popular one during Lent and in it, one of the titles used for Mary is "Unwedded Bride". So - she was an unwed mother? Did they miss the part where God tells Joseph to take Mary home as his 'wife'? it was very disturbing to hear that title. Anyway - i don't listen to anything protestant OR orthodox even though they DO have some good stuff - the orthodox WAY more than the protestant. All this to say -- i totally agree with you about the harmfulness of things to our soul - when the source is questionable. We don't need all that stuff out there, when we have the absolute purest form of everything a human being needs, right in our Catholic church!

When we followed the Novus Ordo church we made the mistake of going to a Jewish Seder but once we started to catechize ourselves using pre-Vatican II catechisms we learned that the Catholic faith never supported attendance in ceremonies that don't acknowledge our Lord Jesus Christ. At that time we didn't know and we believed the false Ecumenism narrative that has been pushed since the time of John Paul 2 that it's okay to participate in prayer services that don't acknowledge our Lord Jesus Christ.

@ACatholicWife
@ACatholicWife Год назад
@Kathleen Walker I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me. I most assuredly am not putting my feelings above what Holy Mother Church teaches. I would encourage you to delve deeper into this topic. Pope Pius XI said, It is clear why this Apostolic See has never allowed its subjects to take part in the assemblies of non-Catholics: for the union of Christians can only be promoted by promoting the return to the one true Church of Christ of those who are separated from it, for in the past they have unhappily left it. St. Alphonsus Liguori, who said, “It is not permitted to be present at the sacred rites of infidels and heretics in such a way that you would be judged to be in communion with them” It is true Divine Law that prohibits active participation in non-Catholic rituals . . . and Vatican II’s declaration on ecumenism does not instruct believers to do that. It says: “Witness to the unity of the Church very generally forbids common worship to Christians, but the grace to be had from it sometimes commends this practice” The “common worship” being spoken of here should be understood as an endorsement of passive communion where attendees pray next to each other or share in a common, authorized prayer like the Our Father. Nothing in the Second Vatican Council contradicts earlier teachings that *forbid Catholics from actively taking part in the unique aspects of non-Catholic worship services*

I also attended a couple Baptist services, but didn’t like it and did the Sign of The Cross when they closed prayers. I’ve also been to a Methodist and Episcopal funeral, plus a couple of Mormon services, but never received the so-called communion, because it would be blasphemy. I went to these services to learn more about other faiths, never failing in going to Mass, because it helped me learn more about Apologetics. It helped me answer questions that my high school CCD students asked me. The Mass is the center of my life, but learning about Protestant faiths has helped me with Q&As asked in my catechesis.

However, when the scenes turned to Mary, the Mother of Christ, I felt they were done so sloppily, so carelessly, and so detrimental to Mary, even in a covert sort of way. It was so weird and it felt so wrong, especially when they would sneak in 'jabs' about the Catholic Church. There was nothing reverent about praising Jesus Christ, rather, just preying on emotions. The whole experiment didn't work and all the weirdness where she was trying to pressure me into converting to her protestant faith fell flat and eventually led to our separation and divorce. I agree that Catholics should not attend protestant churches; especially when not strong in their own Catholic faith. It's a trap and there is a high probability one will fall for it.

I haven't watched The Chosen but Matt Fradd said it was pretty awesome and I know he would recognize and call out any "blaspheming" of Mary so I don't think it does but like I said, I haven't watched it. I listened to an interview with the actor who played Jesus in The Chosen and he said making that series augmented his faith 100 times over. He was a nominal Catholic before the series.

@Granny Goes thanks for sharing your thoughts. Did you happen to read the blog post I linked in the comments from Father Nix (Padre Perigrino) that explains the blasphemy? I’m sure that Matt is great but his opinion is just that - an opinion. I’ll go with the guidance from a traditional priest over a layman any day. Thanks for watching nonetheless.

I did watch the Chosen. I wouldn't go as far as to say that it was blasphemous against our lady, but instead showed the common Protestant understanding of her; or lack thereof. So it will also stand to reason they will make the same mistake when it comes to the Eucharist, in future episodes. There were beautiful parts to the show, but is not written from a RC perspective. You have some excellent thoughts and I enjoyed your video!

@ibreakforpastry thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts with me. Did you have a chance to read the blog post I linked from Fr. Nix regarding the blasphemy? He also said: “A friend convinced me last night to give "The Chosen" another try, even after I wrote a blog post against the blasphemy against Our Lady in it. Total blasphemy... Now the two episodes I have tried of "the Chosen" blaspheme not only Mary (something I have come to expect from Protestants) but have blasphemously accused Christ Himself of a "transgression." These things are very offensive to God, regardless of how they make us feel.

@@sammygomes7381 you're not understanding what they say. The Virgin Mother Scripture is quite clear that Mary conceived Jesus in a virginal way - by the Holy Spirit. Additionally, it is the constant teaching of the Church that she always retained her virginity. She had no other children and never engaged in the marital act with Joseph. Sometimes this is confusing since there are references in the Scriptures to Jesus’ brothers and sisters. But this language was commonly used in reference to cousins. So this shouldn’t confuse us if we understand the language of the time. In fact this is still a common practice in other cultures of our day. For example, those from various African countries commonly refer to those within their own village as their brother or sister when they are with them outside of that village. It was God’s plan that Mary only have one Son for various reasons. It was especially so because of the fact that we are all called to become brothers and sisters of Christ through spiritual adoption. Therefore, if Jesus had blood brothers or sisters it would have undermined his spiritual brotherhood with them. It would have made their relationship with Jesus different. But God desires this deeper spiritual relationship with all people. Mary is the only blood relation to Jesus, thus, she shares a special bond with Him that no one else does. But it had to be that way if God was to become true man.Interestingly, though, even Mary’s deepest bond with Jesus does not come as a result of her physical blood relationship. It comes, first and foremost, by her spiritual motherhood. She is united with her Son primarily by her perfect faith and obedience. It is this bond that surpasses the natural one.

@@ACatholicWife Thank you for your reply! I did not previously read his post. I certainly respect the opinion of any priest. I would however say that I think it's splitting hairs a little. I don't believe the word transgression was intended to imply sin. Rather the actions of a young boy who went missing from his parents without leave. We don't know exactly what was going through Our Lady's mind at that time, but when I say my rosary, I imagine she would have been panicked, as any other mother. For three days, she did not know his whereabouts. So when Joseph said this in the show, I don't even believe he was implying sin, but rather stating, "Why would you do this to your mother?" I think the show is much better than anything else in mainstream media. There are already many stories of people being inspired and coming to Jesus from the show. It's difficult to argue with that. I love our Holy Mother and would defend her as my own, which of course she is. If I had one criticism of the show, it would be the actress who plays Our Lady and the misunderstanding of who she was/is. But I believe the shows message is genuine. Just my thoughts though.

I'm a Catholic and would like to become a Catholic apologist some day, but I can't adequately defend the faith if I don't read or learn more about non-catholic faiths. I attend some protestant services as a bystander to see what's going on, talk to some of the believers and ask questions if I have any. I don't try to convert anyone, my goal is just to learn more about various branches of Christianity on my part. They're not a replacement for my Sunday masses, though. I still go to Catholic church every week to receive the Sacrament ans spend some time in church.

I am Vietnamese Catholic. But recently, I haven't felt good about my religion. When I search in the internet about child sexual abuse scandal of Catholic, or some lines in bible written about women by some Saints of Roman Catholic, I felt like there's some stuffs that I think just created by some Catholic people which forced us to believe it is right though it's wrong. Catholic Priest in my country tend to tell that other religions not good as our one. I see it kinda bad perspective. What if 2 people love each other, one of those two following Catholic? Yes we have to force the rest one follow Catholic indirectly 🙃. As I know, if my girlfriend' s religion not Catholic or Atheist, we re still organize wedding at church but cousin of the one who follows Catholic mustn't join in. And what if we divorce ? The women have to live the rest of her life except that her old husband haven't died. If the husband was a violent husband, what were gonna happen if their child live a life like that? But Catholic in Vietnam kinda weird about altar. They put portrait of died people like parents, grandparents & cousin under Jesus Cross & Maria statue. To me its cringe af, I feel most uncomfortable when I go by my altar. As a Roman Catholic born from a family follow it, my faith of God, Jesus Christ is flexible, but my faith in Vatican Church is... 😕😕😕.

If I may, allow me to comment on a couple of things I hear a lot and heard you say in this video. This is NOT to be overly critical or nitpicky - just to help as brothers and sisters in the Lord. The first comment I hear all the time is "I was born and raised Catholic". We did not come out of our mother's womb Catholic. We were baptized Catholic at some point and that was the beginning of our faith journey as a Catholic. So to say we were born Catholic is inaccurate. The other is when people say "I used to be Catholic". I tell people baptism leaves an indelible mark on your soul. Once baptized, always baptized. You can not un-do your baptism. That implies the power of the Sacraments rest with us when ultimately they are God's gift to us. I would tell people you are still Catholic, you are just not practicing or embracing your faith at this moment. God will always welcome you back if you repent, receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and embrace your Catholic faith once again. The one last thing I might add to the conversation. I hear your concern and cautions about the Chosen or listening to Protestant speakers or podcasts and there is much merit to that. However, I can honestly attest that MUCH of my spiritual growth and inspiration has come from our Protestant brethren. I think if someone is well formed in their Catholic faith, they can sift through what is true or not true. Take what is good and holy. My concern with becoming too isolationist is that pride and judgmentalism can creep in to where we think they are not capable of hearing or transmitting any of God's truth and I think it is beneficial to affirm and uphold what is good, true and holy no matter where it may come from. Thanks for listening. God Bless you and your ministry!

He taught me what the divine mercy chaplet was, we all prayed the rosary together. Alot of good has come out of the show. Again I invite you to watch it first and decide for yourself. God bless

I've gone to other services - not instead of my Catholic Sunday mass (obviously) and I don't participate in "communion" (if there is one). Same with reading books. I find it interesting how others choose a spiritual path. And I'm curious about people and the world. I don't want to isolate myself into a bubble. None of this has never caused me to waver in my Catholicism. I go to Catholic mass every morning - I love it so much! I go to a Latin mass every Sunday as well and it's awesome. However, I will say that the orthodox church has phenomenal liturgical services. Like I wish the Catholic Church would go back to the "old ways" of mass. Two hour services, incense, singing, etc. Yes, I love the Latin mass and I'm so lucky to live near a community that offers it. But, the orthodox Church has us beat on liturgical celebrations.

I generally agree with everything, but I will go with my Protestant mother to her Church on occasions like Mother’s Day, but I’m always careful to make sure I still make it to Mass for Saturday evening vigil and I think that’s okay for such circumstances as long as we still meet our Catholic Mass obligation AND it’s extremely important that we know our Catholic faith thoroughly beforehand. I also do not take communion in her Church. Whenever a Protestant loved one dies, I always attend their funerals because that’s just the right thing to do. I even gave the Eulogy at my Baptist grandmother’s funeral and read scripture from my Catholic Bible. I’m torn when it comes to the weddings. If the two people getting married are both Protestants, then I don’t see a conflict in going to their wedding. I’ve even been a groomsman in a few such weddings, but if it’s a Catholic marrying someone outside the Church, I can see more cause for concern there. To be honest, I’d probably go if I’m close enough to them, but I would tell them they really should be getting married in the Church or at very least quickly having their marriage convalidated. When it comes to Protestant speakers, I’ll sometimes hear them out, but again this is a situation where we need to be properly armed with the truths of our own faith before listening to a Protestant speaker or sermon. Usually, they’re general enough in their topics that we agree, but sometimes they cover topics upon which we don’t agree and we need to know why they’re wrong about these things, not to condemn them, but to defend our own souls from being led astray. This can happen, even when the Protestant speaker doesn’t intend it or isn’t even aware that they’re in error.

Oh I mentioned my mother was baptist and my stepdad Catholic and it was indeed a sight to behold but my stepdad married my mother in our baptist church. He’s very devout to his Catholicism so he asked permission and the Pope said yes but a Catholic priest must be there to say the Catholic part so there we all were. Brother Brown and down the isle came the Catholic priest to stand beside our minister in the Baptist church. In full ceremonial robes. My stepfather at forty had never married so the Catholic Church was all good with it. We have seen some things in our family that have been quite unique but my stepfather and his family have never set themselves apart because they are Catholic. We all just blended in quite nicely.
