I-210 Los Angeles, CA The Foothill Freeway ( Exits 8-24 )

@Freewayjim: Yeah, California does this all over the state. The most recent example would be the installation of metering lights from the eastbound CA 237 flyover ramp to northbound I-880, in an attempt to reduce delays along NB I-880. CalTrans also installed metering lights on the NB 85 to NB 101 connector ramp, a few years back. Next up might be the connectors from I-280 and I-680 to southbound US 101 in San Jose, to try and smooth out the flow on 101 through there.

@101xfmrogers: Those are metering lights that are turned on during peak hours; they're a simple, yet effective tool to keep the mainline lanes (especially in the case of I-210) from getting too congested.

Great video. I'm not sure how 'dangerous' CA-2 is if you just take the same precautions you would any mountain highway and keep your eye on the road. I would like to see a video of that highway myself from La Canada Flintridge to the CA-39 junction. The transition from urban flatland to snow covered forest is really something. The most underrated mountain road though in my opinion is CA-38, "Rim of the World Highway" from Upland to Big Bear to CA-38 on down. Spectacular drive and views.

Very, very nice! The video quality was just like being there. I didn't get to drive this portion of the 210 while I was there and didn't know it was this scenic and desolate looking. haha My buddy and I spent a lot of time chilling in Pasadena and navigating LA's Metro Gold Line in the middle of the 210. Don't even get me started about the mass transit system there haha Great job again and I look forward to Part II!

@101xfmrogers It's a ramp signal. Ramp signals like those are usually found on onramps from surface streets, but CalTrans seems to like doing this on freeway to freeway ramps as well. there to make sure that platoons of cars are broken up to make it easier to merge AND it's there to proportion the number of cars entering the freeway, so the traffic on the freeway doesn't exceed capacity.

@101xfmrogers I think those traffic lights are used during rush hours at freeway entrances with more than one lane, that way cars can enter safely instead of fighting over the right lane of the freeway.

Wow, I live in San Fernando and you made that drive look awesome... Side note: those meters since they installed them about a year and a half ago, have never been activated. Another side note, the control city for I-210 North starting in Pasadena is San Fernando. Just recently they started changing out the overhead sings and the CA-118 now has Ventura as it's control city at the ramp from South I-210 to CA-118 West.

Excellent video, amazing that it is part of Metro LA, it looks like it's in the middle of nowhere. Stoplights at 0:42 for an expressway to expressway interchange? what's up with that? Big thumbs up!

@Freewayjim: Ahh, those are everywhere on California freeway to freeway interchanges. Simple metering lights to keep I-210 from getting congested at rush hour.

1st part of the video where you put up signal ahead, I thought to myself, signal on the freeway??? LOL, it was one of those top help people get on the freeway when it becomes rush hour..Always hate when your doing 65 to 70 MPH and all of a sudden the traffic starts to back up, I almost immediatly turn on my warning flashers just so the nearest car behind me won't run into the back of me, Thats always the scariest part. Great video just like ALL of the other ones.

@FreewayBrent in ATL we have meters from non-freeways to freeways, which I understand but freeway to freeway seems odd.

@ScrewdUPClickV2 They need to put lights at US-59 South to I-45 North :)

The western portion of the route is an auxiliary Interstate Highway, while the eastern portion is a state highway. The entire route was upgraded to Interstate Highway standards by 2007, and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has requested permission to re-sign the eastern portion as an Interstate Highway.

@101xfmrogers The purpose of traffic lights is to regulate traffic, which is perfectly sound on over jammed LA freeways. I've seen on-ramp lights like that many times (SF or Europe), although i've never seen that from a freeway to another, before this video.
