I Missed this part of the highway really bad!! I had fun memories with u!!😰😰😰😊😊😍 RIP Old Crosstown expressway!!!!! 1960s-2012! You will be missed deepenly!
first rode it when it opened in the 60's on a double date. Then every day commute west to east, east to west. Beat my spine worse every year trying to make a living. You can hear the road noise in the video. The new crosstown is smoother but the planning and engineering are lacking. Living in Urban renewal.Yee-haw!
I'm glad its gone because it was a dangerous and a disaster to drive on in the winter and it was rough to it destroyed more tires than I can count on my mom's car and was also hard on her suspension as well. Seriously three sets of tires every year that's having to replace every tire three times a year that's going through 12 tires a year and suspension realignment twice a year. Roads cost drivers thousands of dollars each year in maintenance costs and this section of Interstate 40 was the worst in Oklahoma history at least 5 deaths can be contributed to falling concrete on non drivers just people walking under it I myself almost got hit by falling concrete in 2009 when I was walking around downtown Oklahoma City I had to walk under the bridge to go to stores I liked in downtown Oklahoma City just missed by 2 feet of hitting my head but got my legs though when the concrete shattered into a thousand pieces.
They've lately pulled the statue of the late Stanley Draper -- the one where he's holding the rolled-up blueprints to his "highway in the sky" -- out of Civic Center Park, apparently for "storage" some place? "Re-writing history." That's been done a lot over the not-too-lovely history of Oklahoma City. Oh -- and what will become of the structural steel in this roadway? It's being parceled out to the counties to fix their deficient bridges. Still has "50-to-75 years of useful life..."
