I swear 435 is KDOT's and MoDOT's personal play toy. KDOT also moved US 24/40 from State Avenue in KCK to I-70. State Avenue goes through some rough neighborhoods (from 65th Street on east) and always in need of repair. US-73 used to terminate at I-435 on State Avenue just east of the Kansas Speedway. It now terminates at I-70 in Bonner Springs. 73 pretty much shares the same pavement as K-7 from Leavenworth all the way down I-70. US 73 feels like a glorified state highway.

MoDOT also realigned US 24 traffic onto I-435/I-70 due to semi trucks constantly crashing and getting stuck at the Independence Ave bridge owned by the KCT railroad (which BNSF, UP, and Amtrak run on) over in the Sheffield area.

@@kcmorailfan4784 ah I didn’t realize that Independence Ave used to be US-24, including the part underneath the bridge. It is comical to see idiotic truck playing Russian roulette with the Bridge seemingly on a daily basis.

It would have been a continuation of I-29 from the north, but the three stop lights you refer to stopped that, hence the new I-49

And to no surprise those 3 intersections are among the most dangerous in the city.

The NIMBYs won in court. 49 currently ends at the Triangle; it was to end in a 29/49/70/71/670 interchange just east of downtown. Same mess with I-40 in Memphis and MO 755 and I-170 in St. Louis.
