You end this drive headed down the US 1 ramp into Branford. I work at a classic car shop approximately 6 blocks from that exit. Its so cool to see you come down that ramp (which, by the way, needs the Mileage Mike touch and needs to be extendedto include a ramp for southbound exits and northbound entrances... also conveniently stopping travel on I-95 where it bottlenecks to 2 lanes between the very next Branford exit alllllll the way to Providence... it needs to be 3 lanes.
Though no tolls these days (it was $2.10 in 1960), I-95 is still known as the New England Thruway, Connecticut Turnpike and Gov. John Davis Lodge Turnpike. And I like the service areas; gives a sense of adventure, kind of like a pit stop on the race to where you're going. Better to be on the outbound from NYC in the morning than inbound. Some of the better sights are just ahead from where he exited.
Along that entire 95 corridor is where AMTRAK & MTA METRO-NORTH RAILROAD’S NEW HAVEN LINE from Grand Central Term goes. To New Haven-State St. AMTRAK of goes farther but who cares for now?
