I was able to determine the 2nd NVA Div, based on NSA reports and signals intelligence intercepts on the same day, which identified the 2nd NVA reported to their command that they were in contact, being bombed and were planning on pulling back from the same location as the 3/7 command chronologies identified as the location of the fire fight. Additionally, SIGINT had previously identified the general area as being where the 2nd NVA had based themselves during that time period. The previous day 3rd platoon with McCrossen’s squad had captured NVA nurses in the area, and on the 13th during this fight the men I interviewed identified the enemy as uniformed NVA fighters. So that also ruled out a VC ambush.
