This was bound to happen at some point, i bought a Montero at auction, on accident. Join me as i figure out why i was able to get this thing for so cheap!
That motor was either running for a bit after the initial rod snapped or it was on highway speed when it snapped. Either or...that shortblock is toast. That Gen 3 is in great shape body wise. Hopefully the transmission is in great shape and drivetrain. It's worth saving ...put another motor in it and it's ready. That Gen 3 deserves another go at life.
Definitely worth saving!! For $700, I feel that any problem would be worth fixing to keep that clean gen3 on the road. Even just installing same motor would be mint!! For an engine swap, I really think that an ls swap would be insane for this Montero. Although there's very little info about the swap itself, several people have done it. In the future, I am considering doing a LM7 5.3l (2001 suburban) swap into my 2000 Montero sport. It'll be a lot of work but it'd be sick.
Fix it and you will have another rental car for your customer. I would love to see a mild overland-explorer type of build. Fix it, sort it out, make a sleeping platform inside, table at the rear trunk door etc. Just some simple overland mods, get some A/T tyres on it and rent it out.
Soon as you showed the pan from underneath my first thought was, "Yep that looks like a thrown rod". I know you are a bit more into staying with the Mitsi gear on your builds but curious how much work it would be to maybe toss in a 4.3 Vortec from an S10. Gain power without going overboard and maybe even increasing overall reliability and mileage.
Awesome vehicle. I got the same 3.0 engine 2005 model from Emirates, as a project car. Project was done within one month. Still with me since September 2022. Stability and speed is better than I thought even cornering. 190 kmph until now. Most of all parts are genuine except suspension bushes. Engine half overhauled. Not the block. Good performance in the desert. For your car, better fix another used engine.
Your breakdown and description of the engine parts where on point. Unfortunately given the conclusion I like to see an engine swap possibly vortec. It certainly be a waste of Montero left to die!
Dude the top glove compartment and the rear door latches both broken..haha Yup its a gen 3 Montero. Also the butterfly valves.. it's the accumulator motor away from a Montero bingo. Also I hate it when my Montero goes bloop bloop bloop. 😂
i am still rebuilding my 03 , took heds off becouse it was free spining, i will take my block out to, are you going to do upgrades to this motor , or swap to a mivec from a eclips lol do a build so we can copy it ..thanks for the vid
I have a Question. If I were to buy an auction Montero. Would putting a 2008 Toyota V6 engine be possible? Would it cause problems in general? I hear it has like 268 horses. Which would make the Montero much faster.
@@montanamontero his ol' Cornbinder is an awesome truck. I'm def more of a Car Guy than a knife guy...lol I luv all his content working on his old machines. I found his channel looking up rehabbing an old anvil.😎 I've been watching since of your Mitsu stuff too.👍
